That's what you come to learn about stuff like folk music, its proper interesting because there is no quote on quote "original version" these folk songs would be sung by ordinary people and passed down through generations, all with tweaks being made here and there to have the multiple versions we have in the modern day. Folk music back then was all about unity and it shows

Thanks Richard! I also wanted to respond to your comment about John Kanaka. I agree that it is probably a racial slur, and my version of the song is called "John come tell us" or "Mobile Bay." My version does not include that word at all. I should have specified in my other comment.

Gabriel, we are in fantasy land here. We can call each other any name we want, as long as it's not mean. That being said, "Master" is fine too!

Yeah the song wouldn't have been too catchy if it was "Oh, Antonio de Padua Marìa Severino Lòpez de Santa Anna y Pèrez de Lebròn gained the day, away Antonio de Padua Marìa Severino Lòpez de Santa Anna y Pèrez de Lebròn"

@@SeanDagher Isn't Kanaka a racist slur? I might be totally wrong on this.
@NiallMor

@@Gandhiji87 My understanding is that kanaka is the Hawaiian word for "man." Unfortunately it became a pejorative white sailors applied to any native Hawaiian, but originally it was not in itself a racist term. I might also be wrong.

@@Gandhiji87 I agree that it is probably a racial slur, and my version of the song is called "John come tell us" or "Mobile Bay." My version does not include that word at all. I should have specified in my other comment.

Fun bit of history: his amputated leg was buried and given a state funeral. As he fell in and out of popularity, it was disinterred and re-interred with... befitting levels of pageantry, according to the mood of the people doing the digging. I was starting to type the story my Texas History teacher told me in seventh grade, that his prosthetic was stolen by Texas troops during the Texas war for independence - but, lo! Some quick research tells me it was not until later that he lost his leg. The prosthetic was stolen during the Mexican-American war, by troops from Illinois. It resides there, and periodically today different groups in Texas try to claim it should reside in my home state. Which, is awfully true to character for us, I suppose.
