My Granda, Barry Coatman is in this film, along with his older brother, Joe Coatman. My Granda died very recently (14th July 2024) at the age of 82, just days before his 83rd birthday. I think he was around the age of 20 in this film. He was the most loving, kind and generous man and he adored his family. He was so funny and charismatic and he would talk to anyone. He was truly one of a kind. We all miss him so much. We have watched this film many times over the years. Thank you so much for posting it. We are hoping to show it at his funeral ❤️ xxx

Remember reversing the RL down to the tide line in the dark n cold. Getting soaked through. Tough work.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first watched this video, It took me back 60 years, I knew Joe Coatman when I was a lad, My father was a seacoal man he used to take me with him sometimes, normally about 3 in the morning, after they had filled a load my old man would leave me to guard the claim in case another lorry pulled up. was that Geordie catlow in the vid?

Can you imagine blokes do this now to earn a few quid. Back then you often had to work hard and sometimes fight hard. Great watch even though this is a million miles from my part of the country.

Video great, some of the narration is pretentious waffle.
