Believe it or not even the professionals will use an inflatable kayak. They offer several key advantages over a standard plastic hull kayak. They are more compact and store more easily, they offer more flotation, they are more stable, you don't have to strap them to your car roof, they are comfortable, and more. We'll remind you of these key points as we show you the incredible Sea Eagle Fastrak series of boats.
The star of the review will be our purchased Sea Eagle Fastrak 385 with over 3 years of testing complete. You'll find us in this boat review on a high mountain lake in "Austria" and even Mrs Nutnfancy is here for the review. A rain storm had just passed through as we get to business.
Value, setup/takedown, SAWC, POUs, motor adaptation, salt and fresh water use, draining, searing, white water use, paddle selection, storage, fishing considerations, durably, storage, and and other key points are covered.
This is a fast paddling, streamlined inflatable kayak with 9.5" tubes. For inland bays and lakes it is ideal. It has an inflatable keel and removable skeg allowing straight tracking, even with one person paddling. At only 35 lbs, a Sea Eagle Fastrak 385 travels remarkably well in RV, car, truck, or even as checked baggage on the airlines. It may open up to you a whole new set of adventures for your family. Another one of a kind Nutnfancy boat review!
Let's go to the water again TNP Patrons...by request this boat review is edited and ready!

3 years on the boat before a review? Solid testing. I always hate when someone reviews a knife, gun, piece of gear etc, and takes it out of the packaging on camera and says its great. TNP is the only channel that does long-term rigorous testing.

I purchased the Sea Eagle 465 which is about 2 feet longer but doesn't weigh much more than the 385. Both paddlers can fully stretch out and have room for extras. I have rented kayaks in the past and even not considering storage I would take the Sea Eagle. It's easy to store, quickly inflates, quickly deflates, is super stable and tracks very straight. It takes about 10 minutes to assemble and 10 minutes to put back in your vehicle. No roof racks or home storage issues. The biggest issue was packing everything in the supplied pack. It really doesn't work and is very heavy. I found a separate bag that holds everything but the kayak, including life vests, and made this setup perfect. Highly recommended.

"3w Fred Sharkey Last year, bought a house near a river. This year made a point to get out on kayaks. Went with a different brand, but also chose inflatable kayaks because of portability, storage, and value. Completely agree with Nutn about the practicality of inflatable kayaks and will check out this Sea Eagle brand. 3w Ken Kreischer Sucked into another purchase from TNP, not that it’s a bad thing 😎. My Sea Eagle 385FT was delivered today. CA water testing and sub reviews forthcoming!" Paul Grogan Hey there Nutn, Wow. I live about 400 yrds from lake Erie in Euclid Ohio. That said, my wife and I have been looking for a replacement for my Coleman craw dad "aluminum framed plastic flat bottom" with seats added. When it's glassy out there its epic with my 2.3. h.p. (15") honda outboard but this rig would enable us to get to the shore with a freakin wagon including motor,cooler,pump. Your right that little honda will run all day on full tank and we carry a small motorcycle aluminum spare 2 qt. Tank as well ☆☆☆☆☆ review that we are seriously considering thank you 1mo Emerson Evans I literally was camping there three weekends ago. truly a gorgeous area. 1 1mo FNH CAT Given this is Patreon, what is the name of the lake? Going to Utah next spring and would love to hit that up. Thanks. Shit, might even run into Nutn :) 1mo Ken Kreischer Been waiting for this review, I’m seriously considering pulling the trigger on one. Have to get Mrs K to watch it so I can say see it’s Mrs Nutnfancy approved. Thanks! (Btw I know how the conversation will go when she first sees the video; “isn’t that your hat, did you buy a girls hat?” 🙄) 1 1mo Tygre That is a cool boat; now I need one. Btw, I was all excited thinking Nutn was going to paddle up to Glock headquarters and take a factory tour, since they were already in Austria and all. (Maybe that'll be in the director's cut. Nyuk nyuk.) 1mo FNH CAT Anyone ever whit water in Deep Creek Lake/Friendsville MD? Use to know a big rig driver that would give us broken or returned kayaks! 1mo Powernoodle Looking forward to your impending purchase and review of a new C8 Corvette. 4w Jeff Rockey Was looking at getting a born kayak, but this has maybe changed my mind. Also, is the Nutnfancy whine going to become a staple of reviews much like the Nutnfancy rants? Haha 4w Bonnie Morse I have 2 inflatable kayaks. Love them!

Fastraks are indeed AWESOME. I've had my 465 for 5 years, I sail it in NYC... no games played! They are very capable and a marvelously well-rounded and versatile design. They really struck a sweet spot on the design. Legitimately comparable to Glock in that regard. You will not go wrong with the FT's, though I recomnend the 465 for 2 persons.

You have the drip guards in the wrong position on your kayak paddles- they should be farther up where they do not actually go into the water (when padding). If you do that then they will work much better! Thanks for the review

Hmm... Used an Intex Explorer 2 Inflatable Kayak from April of last year till February of this year. Its a cheap inflatable kayak (around 60 to 80 bucks) but I took it out both in freshwater, saltwater. Hell O did 2 beach take offs with it with fishing gear before it finally ripped up (my fault though not makers). Got about 14 used out of it which saved me + $300 plus it's purchase price.. Unfortunately the latest model has alot of bad reviews regarding the quality of the materials so I have been looking for a new inflatable that I can paddle around with my kid in the marina. I will look into this model. Thanks Nutn

There is a series of tiny lakes like this in ID. that got discovered by Adda county. To bad. What was an easy primitive experience for a GI 40 years ago is elbow to elbow now. They even leased parts of the land next to my fav trout stream that flows from those lakes. But the rest of that county still looks great to me.

Nowadays Sea Eagle also offers the Bixpy motor with it's diminutive battery. It's more expensive than a trolling motor, but so much lighter, and it can be mounted either on the same location as the troller or on the bottom of the boat where the fin is.

Thanks for the review. Very informative. When you say that the Fast Track 385 is not really for choppy open seas, I find that surprising because I thought this would be more stable than the RAZORLITE? Is it just because the tubes have a 9 inch diameter so do not give enough side protection against waves? Is the Fast Track 385 big enough to be comfortably used by 2 people?

If you are reviewing different model Sea Eagle inflatables as I get the impression, since you mentioned the Explorer, you should try my favorite model, the Sea Eagle Paddleski if your interested in the concept of a super portable boat you can throw in your sedan and have a "decent" motor. I also own a few SE330 kayaks, and I tried out my friends Fast Track this past fall. It performed exactly as I expected. The small Honda motor you mention is not listed as a compatible motor to use on a Fast Track, unless you know something I don't. I would guess, it is probably due to the weight. A trolling motor has a large battery that fits on the opposite side of the motor mount, providing balance. Only the Paddleski model of their "kayaks" offers the ability to rear mount a motor or handle a larger motor. I could have gone with a Honda, but I choose the Torqeedo 1003s lithium electric motor. It is roughly twice the price of the Honda, but has many advantages, though the disadvantage of range if you wanted to say go 10 miles each direction and bring a spare tank of gas or something like that. You could buy a 2nd Torqeedo battery, but they are extremely expensive. I originally had a Minn Kota trolling motor like yours on my Paddleski. For going around regular size lakes without being in a rush, it was fine. Issues came a couple times when I was out on the bay, and a massive wind came out of now where. Loaded up with two passengers, the Minn Kota didn't have the power to comfortably cut through the wind & currents out on the ocean. It's rare that I'd be in that situation, but I love having a motor that I feel safer on, and can comfortably go to more locations that would otherwise be deemed unsafe to travel to. We've able to fit the Paddleski, motor and a zillion accessories right in our sedan's trunk. The Torqeedo comes apart, and everything is super light weight and easy to carry. When you use it as often as we do, carrying a car battery every time is no fun! Not unless your a body builder or something. We also don't have to smell gasoline, listen to a loud gasoline motor, struggle pulling the lawn motor rope to start a motor every time we start it, deal with mixing oil, storing gasoline, buying gasoline. The single biggest advantage of the Torqeedo, I didn't want to smell gasoline inside my sedan transporting a small gasoline motor. That smell would never come out! I know of no safe way of transporting one. I'd want a gasoline motor transported on the outside of my car, as if I had a pickup truck or something like that. The Torqeedo goes even faster than the Honda, though due to the hull speed of the Paddleski being slower than the 1003 motor, the difference would be a non-issue. The Paddleski paddles similar to the Explorer best I can tell. Not as good as the Fast Track, and better than the SE330/370s. It has a ton of room for holding fishing gear. Like the Explorer, and SE's, paddling against a strong headwind is difficult. The Fast Track is a little better about that, but not as good as a hard shell kayak, or the Razorlite series. The other reason I prefer the Paddleski is for it's sailing ability. It's the most stable kayak model of all of Sea Eagle's kayaks. It has narrow Zodiac style pontoons. We have sort of a Sunfish or Sea Snark style lateen rail rig. It's by far the most stable kayak offered, probably anywhere. Flipping it would take serious effort. We took on a cruise ship wake this past fall that had huge ships rocking back & fourth. I kicked on the Torqeedo motor at full speed, and we litterally surfed the waves going way up high and back down 2 sets of waves. I'd say 6 foot waves, maybe higher? Enough that we felt the roller coaster drop as our 14 foot boat came down the waves, then went up the next one. Our Paddleski is on our 11th year now. It's been to over hundreds locations up & down the east coast. Even on an airplane flown to the Florida Keys once. We've spent a good amount of money on all the accessories, but we get a lot of use out of this boat. Improvements could always be made to any boat, but It's the best boat to own for us small car owners who want a "decent" motor and a full sail rig, and the ability to kayak paddle it too, though it won't win any races paddling. I encourage you to join our Sea Eagle kayak owner's group on FB. You can share experiences, photos, etc. It's a great source of info on all of their kayaks. Nate

I have a question. How easy is it to dry off? why did you choose this over the razor lite?
@reallyhappenings5597
@reallyhappenings5597 3 жыл бұрын
He glossed over the dry off. Doesn't have to be a major chore but I find myself reinflating at home, hosing off, then using a wet-dry vac. That's a PITA. You shouldn't just roll it up wet and store it. In practice I often leave it overnight in the garage on sawhorses. Website makes it seem like you just towel it off, well if you've been taking on gallons of saltwater and dragging tgrough sand, you're gonna want to really clean it, which I do after each use. After several years, if I had the space I'd switch to a carbon fiber rigid kayak. Even with the inlatables I might dedicate a cheap trailer for ease of setup. It's a very BULKY 44 lbs!

@reallyhappenings5597
@reallyhappenings5597 4 жыл бұрын
In rougher water, the lower CG of the black seats might be preferable, though less comfortable. I use the white inflatable seats in ocean bays and you have to lean sometimes in big waves for stability. I only capsized once and it was in legit pounding surf. It's more stable than you'll likely need.

Dude honestly, if you’re not going to tell us where you are, just don’t mention it. By saying “where not going to say where it is. There’s too many people here already.” You make yourself out to be some kind of gate keeper or that the area is yours. When in fact if it’s public land, it belongs to all US citizens. You don’t have anymore right to it than I.

He's only acting as a gate keeper to his audience. He doesn't want to mention the name because of his large following and then have people go there just because that's where nutn went kayaking. Clearly if you live anywhere near it, knowing about it is only a Google search away.
