Enjoyed the video, nice to see a few fish. That fishing mark looked a bit on the hazardous side, wouldn't like to fish it at night on my own. Keep up the good work Frugal. Regards Andy👍

Hey Andy, it was good to get something, it's definitely stoked the fire to get out more. I'm trying to get to some different marks, as I don't want viewers of the vids to get bored of seeing the same places. It's harder than I thought 😂😂. Thanks again dude👍

Hey Chris, thanks dude. Yeah I was properly buzzing, took my step son down there last night, to try and get him a conger, but we blanked. Remembered my rag this time though😊👍

I'll keep this short, my parents lived on the Island and I often went to watch my dad fish. Two good marks were at Shanklin about a mile to the right of Shanklin pier. He never failed to catch bass off the beach whatever the state of the tide, casting approx. fifty yards. Always caught on Rag Worm which we both fresh dug at Ryde about 1/2 a mile from the pier to the left of it. It does get dug quite a bit but within an hour we always had enough for a good days fishing. Further to the right of the mark at Shanklin there are some rocks going out to sea. This is a good place to spot mullet on the surface. Dad never caught a mullet but used to love watching them, he estimated they went up to 4-5lb in weight. I don't recognise Totland from your videos there used to be a pier there has it gone? Went to the second Isle of Wight Pop Festival to see Jimi Hendrix & Jethro Tull but I digress. I know other marks as well but Shanklin was the best.

Funny you say that about tag dace, as I was looking online last night, which is better rag or lug. I'm going to get some rag next time I'm out, unfortunately you can get it local, from the madina River, but that's a good half our for me. I have had a handful of lug on our local beach. It's great to use your own foraged bait. Thanks for dropping by mate, appreciate it👍

3rd Isle of Wight Festival. First at Godshill with Jefferson Airplane headlining, second at Wootton with Dylan then Freshwater for Hendrix. There is a small festival planned for this year but postponed until 2022. Have a look at allwightnow.com if you are interested.

Thank you for that, I'm a little old now for festivals (67) but still follow Tull. Suddenly rediscovered early Genesis (Peter Gabriel) and Roxy Music. Always assumed Bob Dylan was the first, how wrong you can be.@@mral13131313

@@davidb.7093 You’re never too old for festivals..I’m 72. There are some good festivals about and one I can highly recommend is Fairports Cropredy Convention. It’s held in the village of Cropredy near Banbury. We take the Campervan up from the Island for 3 days in August but if you don’t want to camp out in a van or tent there are other places to stay around the area. It’s been going years so there’s old gits like me down to toddlers ....and they also don’t mind you taking your dogs. It’s well organised and it’s more like a place to meet friends as much as a festival of music. It’s not all folky stuff, over the years I’ve seen Alice Cooper, Level 42, Australian Pink Floyd, the list goes on. You can take your own food and drink in if you want but there’s a good bar and loads of food stalls. Everyone drinks at the bar, none of this VIP crap so you can have a natter with some of the musicians as everyone is so friendly. A big bonus is that you can take a camping chair so it’s none of this fighting for a bit of space to sit on the ground. They didn’t run the festival this year but they did a gig at the Brazenose pub in the village that is being streamed on their KZbin site on August 14th (I think ). The whole village joins in so you can go up the church hall, the rowing club, the school etc for a cooked breakfast in the mornings. If you want a shower, the cricket club is open for a small charge and they also do burgers and drinks. As it runs Thursday to Saturday, and if the weather is fine, then a Fairport team take on the local cricket club on the Sunday afternoon. There’s a car boot sale held on the cricket ground on the Saturday morning so something for everyone. Bit off the subject of fishing but I expect there’s somewhere around that area for river or lake fishing. Happy days. Totland Pier was being done up as far as I know, I haven’t been over that side of the Island for a couple of years. They redeveloped the shore end with a new cafe I think but as for the actual pier, I’m not sure.

Thank you for the information, I liked Fairport Convention (going back to the day when Sandy Dennis was the lead singer. My wife unfortunately is terminally ill (Kidney Failure) and considered to old for a transplant (I don't want sympathy). It really does restrict what I can do apart from look after her and stay close. I am not the best "nurse" in the world, hate cooking and loath housework, but will do anything to make her life as comfortable as possible. Banbury is under 25 miles away from where I live (Chesham) and if circumstances change I would seriously consider going. As I understand it Totland Pier has been privately purchased and they are going to build a restaurant/club on it. It will be strictly no fishing which is a great shame. I've taken up metal detecting which allows me to stay local in case my wife needs me in a hurry, not sure whether I enjoy it yet as I'm currently cursing the person who invented ring pull cans, but have found the odd old coin. Take care and have a great life. @@mral13131313

That was a good nights fishing,especially for this time of year.It is very rocky round there,good spot for wrasse on ragworm in the day though . Try the uni knot,you can use it to tie all your hooks and links etc.

@@FrugalOutdoors there is potential for a bass there in the right conditions, however be prepared to lose gear, use rotten bottoms for your weights and don't use anything over 5oz, I would only use a pulley rig to minimise snags as well. If you want a flattie or a ray then fish to the left of Totland pier, hope this helps dude 👍
@FrugalOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
@@NA-hz2ii thanks bud. I really don't like losing gear, drives me mad😂😂, thanks for the info on a flat fish, really would love to get an eating size flattie so may well give that a go. I've only got some mackerel and squid in the freezer, so not sure if they go for that. When you say left of the pier, do you mean right over by the rocks past the lifeboat House. Thanks again dude, really appreciate all the help👍
@NA-hz2ii3 жыл бұрын
@@FrugalOutdoors in that case I wouldn't fish it at all 🤣 maybe the odd occasion for a short session. If you really want a flattie then fish from yaverland to shanklin with rag/lug. Yeah from the left of the pier along to the restaurant is good for rays and bass as well, plus it's clear ground so no snags 👍 also fish it at high tide.

@FrugalOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, well to be honest the line is 60lb amnesia, but on black. It's like wire, so I struggle to do any sort of blood knot, I've kind of made a knot that I use for paracord. It's the first time it's gone. I've changed my line now to a softer 60lb for rig body so I can actually get a knot in it now😂😂. Thabks dude👍

Good vid thanks for posting, have you had any problems with the police during this lock down thing ?
@FrugalOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, I haven't had any issues this lock down, but then we are allowed to fish local this time around. I live in freshwater, so the totland mark is less than a mile, Yarmouth is about 2, and alum Bay is a little over 2 and a half miles from my house, so I think I would be OK, but in all honesty, I haven't even seen any police. I don't think you can fish over night, but the latest I've fished is about 9 so far. I'm very lucky to have a few marks so close, so I understand other people's frustrations with not being able to fish. Cheers dude👍
