Hi that was a nice video with some fancy editing work! I have not fished that pier since I was 8 years old and didn’t catch much. Mind you my gear was a bit different in those days, a 6 ft solid glass rod with a Penn Seaboy and 30 lb bs mono! A couple of suggestions which might help with landing and returning fish. I have a Daiwa 6 mtr landing net pole which is usually long enough for most piers, essential should you be lucky enough to hook a bigger fish and coupled with a Korum folding net you can return fish with no nasty comments from passers by about mistreating fish. You can make one from drain rod sections with an adaptor to take a net head which is what I did years ago but they are cumbersome and floppy! That definately was a flounder, the give away as you pointed out is the lateral line. One comment stated they hated the sound of braid grating in the rings as do I, and now use Nanoline which is a fused line and quiet with all the benefits of braid. Very slick surface so pay attention to knots but very good. Quick couple of questions, can you night fish and are there toilet facilities on the pier? Regards Bill

Wow thanks for that, Interesting points. I've got a bucket for next time. The camera makes returning fish look worse! I've never thought of a long landing net I have the drop net but like my sunglasses I usually forget it. 30lb mono eh! The 2019 strength equivilant is probably half as thick! It's a plaice venue here really I think the Congers are long gone. There is no night fishing but we are working on it. There are toilets on the pier. I think another thing that I'll do is bring some water and wash g up liquid good for clean up and keeping the area clean. Thanks again for watching and your comments

Great video again, thanks for sharing your exploits. Suggest a bucket on a rope (nylon is lightweight, but wrecks your hands) to return fish, plus good opportunity to get some water to clean your hands! Even better, a drop net to return fish and help land them when you get one of good size and don't want to risk the hook hold failing.

Thanks John appreciate thet.In the past ive used a grip lead.My drop net was still by the front door when i got home !Will try the bucket next time.

Im going fishing after a couple years off in the Thames on Sunday. Using a 7ft Boat Rod with a 2 hook flapper. Hoping to get some flounders and pouting. The fish you caught is a flounder and not a dab. Flounders have some orange spots occasionally and is smooth whilst dabs are rougher

I live in Hastings and think that pier is an absolute waste of space and money and looks so bland. It's good for fishing because it's so quiet on there but as a pier that is supposed to be an attraction for families/tourists, it is awful. I may try and fish from there for the first time soon, though. I usually fish next to Azur restaurant carpark, the beach to the right of the harbour wall but mostly head out of town to Pett Level or Winchelsea Beach and occasionally Dungeness too. Bexhill is supposed to be very good - near Galley Hill or Cooden.

The 4/0s for the Bass on that close in rod.Having said that ill use 2/0 for them as i find it better for unhooking, i hate it when they they take that hook down deep.
