Yeah the Knap is a funny place, I've never done very well there, had loads of sessions there whereby I've not even had a bite. I prefer it over towards Nell's point and Jackson's Bay, usually get some action in fairness.

Hi Gareth love that mark easy to fish. Been there a few times but only had congers. The last time I fished there there was a huge tide and bad weather!! I was day dreaming then suddenly the water came up so fast over the top of steps it was all around me. I just managed to get off and head to the other behind. I’ve never seen so much water and that high up very scary. Valuable lesson learned.

I always get a little paranoid when I upload a video with no fish...I don't mind blanking but you kinda feel obliged to catch fish, given that it's mainly a fishing channel you know. But as we know, blanking is part of the journey and it's real life. Love watching your videos. St Brides is my local mark and I was fishing the same morning, the other side of the pub. I also blanked. Saw something small caught an hour and a half before high water. Think it was a schoolie as I have also caught them in shallow water at the venue as well as codling in season. Have seen fish jumping very close in with the water higher and think they are probably Bass.

Yes I agree with you, they were school Bass and where I was, they were close in. I remember last summer and there were lots of little Bass down there, no more than 9 inches long and they were often taking the baits, especially as the tide was flooding in. Ahh just what the doctor ordered ! I haven't been out fishing for a few weeks due to work commitments! And my girlfriend having a bad accident 😕 so needed this, it's a kind of therapy, thanks Gareth 🙏 I'm off to Newport pembrokeshire for a few days in a caravan from next Friday taking the rods. Thank you Wayne, nice to hear from you again. Yes definitely, for me nowadays it's all about getting out and any fish I catch are a bonus. The easterly winds cause the water temperature to drop slightly and the air pressure changes, which keeps the fish offshore as they don't feel the need to feed as often. Yeah I’m improving slowly thanks I go to see the neuro physio’s twice a week at the hospital and they’ve asked me to bring fishing rod in with me next week to show them how I cast, so they can see what they have to do to build up the strength in my right arm to enable me to go fishing again and hopefully throw darts again as well Here’s hoping 🤞 Tight lines 👍

I love darts too, I used to play for hours and hours and I actually wanted to take it up on a serious level but as we know, life gets in the way and all that. Phil Taylor was one of my idols and I loved all of the old school players such as John Lowe, Bob Anderson, Cliff Lazarenko etc. I still love watching it on the television, great entertainment, although I do miss the players that are now retired. It's a bit of a novelty seeing white swans as they are black here. The world is a tricky place at the moment with so much happening. Hi David, always good to hear from you. Yes I try my best to capture the full experience and my priority is always to try and make something relaxing to watch. Black Swans...now that's interesting, I'm going to have to Google them as I'm intrigued now! Since I started filming, my catch rate has significantly dropped...I'm usually filming some flowers or something and end up missing the fish ha! Certainly is a messy world at the moment and a lot of people are finding it hard. This coming winter is going to be a struggle for a lot of people given the current prices of gas/electricity/food etc. Thank you, I've not done many videos this year and so I'm not quite sure how I've managed to hit 3000 subscribers. It will be much easier from late August as less pressure, whereas at the moment my time is limited and this is frustrating. Always get a little paranoid when I upload a video with no fish but I guess that's how it goes... hopefully the fishing gods will be with me next time ha! @@riversidewithme I reckon you have achieved what you set out to do making the videos relaxing. There have been a number of times I have come home from work after a bad day and just wanted to sit down and watch or re-watch one of your videos. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched your two videos on the Taf near Carmarthen Bay. My gran was from Carmarthen. It must be a little disappointing for you that your catch rate has dropped since filming but I am sure everyone on your channel understands that blanks are an anglers reality. Like you said, the conditions in this video were less than ideal for fishing anyway. Hopefully some of your mojo will return when you are more relaxed. It will be harder for people as your winter draws closer. Winter can cause a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder often called "Winter Depression". I have taken enough of your time so you have a great weekend too and better fortune on your next outing!!

@@davidwilliams6525 Yes it certainly can. Our NHS actually prescribe fishing as a treatment for people who are suffering mentally. Yes I know Resolven, although I don't think I've been there. The River Neath is a mark I want to fish, always looks very fishy!

Always had productive sessions on them steps Gareth, nothing massive but always seemed to catch something there. Last time I caught about 20 fish (small bass & flounder mainly) but the rod tip always gave me the nod there. I was surprised to see you blank but that weather just didn't help you at all mate.

Yes I also remember those cones at Goldcliff...I was there with Dad one morning when they were emptying them, they were after the Salmon and Sea Trout. Although I felt a little sad as the rest of the fish were just discarded. What is this mark like now in November ,December? How far is the steps away from car park? What would you recommend goldcliff or here? Best tides please? Great vid

The steps is a 5/6 minute walk from the carpark, to the right. It's like a lot of Newport at the moment, hit and miss, good one day and poor the next. Fishable on tides between 10.8m and 12.6m (12.5 and 14.3m old scale). November/December there can produce Whiting, Codling, Conger and Bass. Nice easy place to fish

Thank you Glenn, much appreciated. Yes it will be good if you can get back into sea fishing, it's such a great form of therapy, it usually sorts my head out! I'm not sure where you're based but one mark that springs to mind is Knab Rock down Swansea...you can literally fish from your car and it can be a good place to fish. And the wall at Porthcawl that runs along Coney beach...you can just park up and fish. Also consider the knap at Barry, parking available and then just a very short walk onto the pebble beach. Certainly is Les. I find it hard it at times when I'm out fishing as I miss Dad. A very good friend of mine passed away a few years ago, he was only 47 and that still rocks me to this day. How do you present your rag and Macky plse Gareth?

Hi Gary. I thread a couple of Ragworm (or one large one) up the hook and line. Then I attach a small piece of Mackerel to the hook and turn it back on itself so that it sits on top of the Ragworm. I then secure it with some bait elastic. There are different ways of doing it but that's my preferred option. Cheers 👍👍🐟

Either park in the carpark at the Lighthouse Inn at St Brides, or just outside on the road but beyond the double yellow lines. Then walk up the steps and go either left or right, there's a huge area to choose from
