South Wales Sea Fishing at Newport in South Wales, on the Bristol Channel. Join me as I venture back to one of my favourite Severn Estuary fishing marks, situated between Goldcliff and Redwick. I've experienced some great Cod Fishing here plus I've caught many other species over the years, including Conger Eel, Thornback Ray, Dover Sole, Flounder, Whiting, Bass and more. I describe this mark as an 'Enigma'...brilliant one day, poor the next and there really is no inbetween but still a UK Shore Fishing favourite! Can I get a fish!!

Thank you Mark, that's nice of you to say. I must admit that I sometimes get a little paranoid when I'm not catching as you kinda feel obligated to get a fish or two, given that it's a fishing video. But I guess that's why I put a large emphasis on the scenery etc, so that the watch is still interesting even if there's no fish about. I'm hoping to upgrade my camera later this year as the one I have now struggles a little in low light. I appreciate your continued support, hopefully I can make plenty more videos this year. I try my best although I've still got a lot to learn yet when it comes to filming and I need to upgrade my camera this year as it struggles in low light. Hi Gareth, like many of your followers I would like to say Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these videos, have been watching them for some time now and today's video reminded me of the outings I had on a cold and windy fishing sessions and no fish and I still keep on doing it , keep them coming all the best. I can't always rely on the fish unfortunately and so I try my best to make a relaxing watch by focusing on the surroundings and wildlife etc. Ah yes, those cold and windy nights, they can certainly be a challenge but I was super pleased when the Flounder came along, I felt a little better then ha! The wind kept getting stronger and I just about managed to scrape a video together. I used to fish battery point across the water from you and all I caught was whiteing year on year so I tried different baits ..... earthworms cod liver oil tablets even garden snails ! And yet more whiteing l never did get a decent cod now I have moved to the middle of the country so watching some one fishing the channel is like therapy !

Absolutely loving your films, it's great to see how fishing is for most people, the good days and the blanks. Thank you Matt. Another hard session but I was pleased to see that Flounder. Had a few few rattles afterwards but that was about it. An enjoyable evening though, cold but enjoyable. Unlucky on the Wednesday night blank but as you say, sitting beneath the stars and moon on a pleasant winter's night is enough to recharge those mind batteries. Great vid again Gareth thank you……keep ‘em coming please……….you caught that cracking flounder early in the session then …..nothing. I went out on boat (charter) today and landed first fish 10 mins after dropping anchor ……….6 hours later, 11 fish caught…..but no more by me!…..like you say “that’s fishing “….

Thank you Mark. As for the transporter bridge, I think access is closed off at the moment as the flood defence bund is being repaired. Also, I think the tide is a little big for that spot as the rip will be very strong, big tides at the moment. I prefer to fish this area on the smaller to mid range tides 👍👍

Nice one Gareth. I've not fished "the mud" for years, If I went that early I would end up casting to soon resulting in getting the lead stuck in the mud as there wasn't enough water to slow it down!

Just discovered your channel and it is superb and reminds me of fishing on the Severn when I lived in Cardiff in the early 90's and some good fish, some blanks and many laughs with the lads along the way. Now on the Humber in North Lincs and can never decide which has the most mud the Humber or the Severn but at least they both hold fish and that is all that counts. As you say, a cracking Flounder a fish like that per session would be great. Around the East Coast at this time of year, we get some good-sized Dabs. I hope to be going sometime in the next fortnight. When tides and public transport come good.

Hi Gareth. Regarding batteries Lithium batteries perform the worst in cold weather Ni-Hi batteries perform better and Ni-Cad perform better still . Exactly the opposite to summer performance.
