I think the first 6 twists are negated when you pull the knot down, @ 2.00 you can see the initial twists come out of the loop and gather around the leader to the right of the knot. Then when you do the second pull they untwist leaving you with a standard uni/grinner knot.

Yep I know what you mean . They are an aid to keeping the loop firm . Well noticed they don’t pay a part in the finished knot by they help an even knot and keep that loop rigid.

Hi I’m new to sea angling I’ve never used shock leader before would you say this will hold casting five oz led with 60 lb tapered shock leader I’ve tied my spools with it but where I’ve never used shock leader before I’m worried they won’t hold any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Tapered leader preferable maybe ? Casting smoothly also helpful - this knot will hold remember the line is also wrapped round the spool a few times so no direct pressure on the knot

Thanks for this video. Spent ages trying to tie another knot, lots of swearing and wasted line later I found this video. So simple and well demonstrated. First one seems great and second one I didn't even need to follow the video. I'm just trying to get into sea fishing and no experience in tying knots. This seems to be very strong although I'm a little worried about the single knot on the shock leader. If that gets knocked out of place will it all slide through? Well I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go fishing but thanks. Great video 👍🏻

Nothing magic just a variation of the uni knot , why do people keep on trying to reinvent the wheel?

+Welsh Fisher Agreed, no reinvention or magic here.This knot has always been used as far as i know think i prefer a tapered leader given the option
