Brilliant commentary as always John. Great video showing your love of what you do, your brilliant understanding of what you are doing & why you do it this way or that way. Your understanding of how to care for the various fish that you catch, letting them relax in a tub of water if needed before releasing them. Very relaxing yet extremely informative video. Hi John, Yet another brilliant video ... I note your 'conversion' to circle hooks and that now you won't go back to the 'J' form. What about your beach rigs like Pennel's for example? I have seen folks use a J for the lower and a circle for the upper? Views??
@TheFishLocker6 жыл бұрын
Tim Grenville-Cleave - if they work then good on them. The only possible issue there may be is circles are meant to be fished in a certain way. The hook won’t find a hold until you set it. If they’re using a circle for the top hook it’s likely the lower J will already be in the fishes mouth. I sometimes use Chinus for my top hook. Good strong gauge, wide gape and great for hookups.

Great videos. On the live bait rigs you use what's your reason for "locking the lead" rather than just have a free sliding ball weight? All the best
@TheFishLocker6 жыл бұрын
George Hunton - a few reasons mate. I cover them in various vids but basically by locking in the lead it means the lead cannot slide back up the mainline for whatever reason. Either when lowering down or if a fish swims upwards with the livebait etc. Meaning you stay in good contact with the livebait and ultimately - the predator fish on that’s eaten it. It helps prevent it spinning and getting twisted up and I know that no matter what’s happened on the way down that bait is 3 feet from the lead. So if the lead is 5ft off the bottom the fish is between 2-8ft from the seabed. It can also work as a bolt rig and help with self hooking. 😉 I hope that answers your question. 👍🏻🎣
@georgeh1586 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishLocker it does. That all makes sense now. I always thought the sliding weight would give the bait more freedom and therefore a better presentation but I can see what you mean. The Mackerel might just tangle up the line and not be presented well at all. Il try it out in future.

Ian Beer - I say in the video, it’s a 100g slow jig. Just a generic brand online. Check out a fb page for “Mentalmetals” 👍🏻🎣

is that a salt flattie rod yr using on float
@TheFishLocker5 жыл бұрын
686bim - It’s a salt rod but I think it’s a travel spin. It’s a 4 piece whatever it is. I won it in a comp about 8-9 years back. 👍🏻🐟🎣

Christopher Parry - Well like I said, just give me a message a week or so before you want to go and I’ll try and find you an easy access mark where you and the lad can hopefully get amongst some fish. 👍🏻

The secret to fishing is fish where the fish are . pretty simple.

I like the fish locker for many reasons and one of them is fishing with the family and another is if you get skunked you change up or move, most other shows just have clips of catching,you keep it reel,notice the pun.Thanks look forward to more videos.

@@TheFishLocker Just flicking through your vids mate, you've had some really good sessions and given some good tips. I would like to fish with you some time and get some more confidence when I get my boat done.

Adam Billings - Ok mate well that shouldn’t be a problem. We can have a crack and go through some bits and bobs and maybe take a trip out one day. 👍🏻

Generally enjoy your videos - that said, I'm still uncomfortable with live baiting - especially with increasing evidence that fish have more intelligence/sensory capabilities than previously ever thought. Ever crossed your mind? Just curious...
@TheFishLocker4 жыл бұрын
- All I can say from my own experience is that some fish - like some humans; are smarter than others. As far as measurable intelligence... I'm not sure if fish like this are anything above reacting via instinct. It is a moral dilemma that some people struggle with. I have made my peace with it.
