Matt Webster - You’ll see in all of my videos 95% of the fish go back - and all of the bass. This is the sport that I absolutely love and not only do I want to help people get into it. But encourage them to look after it. I hope you are enjoying the videos and finding them useful. 👍🏻

Brilliant commentary as always John. Great video showing your love of what you do, your brilliant understanding of what you are doing & why you do it this way or that way. Your understanding of how to care for the various fish that you catch, letting them relax in a tub of water if needed before releasing them. Very relaxing yet extremely informative video. Thanks John, regards to your family & until I catch another late video, cheers, Don from South Aust.

That's the peril of big Huss fishing, you work your nuts off to get it to the boat, and it ruins your day by spitting the hook. But so what, we get straight back down there looking for the next one. Hi John, Yet another brilliant video ... I note your 'conversion' to circle hooks and that now you won't go back to the 'J' form. What about your beach rigs like Pennel's for example? I have seen folks use a J for the lower and a circle for the upper? Views??
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 6 жыл бұрын
Tim Grenville-Cleave - if they work then good on them. The only possible issue there may be is circles are meant to be fished in a certain way. The hook won’t find a hold until you set it. If they’re using a circle for the top hook it’s likely the lower J will already be in the fishes mouth. I sometimes use Chinus for my top hook. Good strong gauge, wide gape and great for hookups.

Great videos. On the live bait rigs you use what's your reason for "locking the lead" rather than just have a free sliding ball weight? All the best
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 6 жыл бұрын
George Hunton - a few reasons mate. I cover them in various vids but basically by locking in the lead it means the lead cannot slide back up the mainline for whatever reason. Either when lowering down or if a fish swims upwards with the livebait etc. Meaning you stay in good contact with the livebait and ultimately - the predator fish on that’s eaten it. It helps prevent it spinning and getting twisted up and I know that no matter what’s happened on the way down that bait is 3 feet from the lead. So if the lead is 5ft off the bottom the fish is between 2-8ft from the seabed. It can also work as a bolt rig and help with self hooking. 😉 I hope that answers your question. 👍🏻🎣
@georgeh158
@georgeh158 6 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishLocker it does. That all makes sense now. I always thought the sliding weight would give the bait more freedom and therefore a better presentation but I can see what you mean. The Mackerel might just tangle up the line and not be presented well at all. Il try it out in future.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 6 жыл бұрын

after our winter here in Canada it would be great to be out in a boat-fishing-soaking in the sun; But my father did that for many years out in Victoria British Columbia fishing in a boat- just as a heads up -he too fished without a hat and developed skin cancer around the hairline at the front, which the doctor said a hat might have prevented. I have worn a baseball cap out in the sun for many years- fishing or not. Just enjoy and be safe.

- A yellow one could very likely be a Cuckoo wrasse. Most fish are edible, some are just more enjoyable than others. Wrasse are quite boney and have lots of spikes. Its all about wether your hungry enough.haha.

How many fish do you take home for the table?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 жыл бұрын
- Not many. We try to return as many as possible and only take something special ( i.e. Haddock ) or something that would not survive being released. Like Pollack or ling that have blown.

So the sliding float.. do you have a knot or a split bead you put in to stop the line going further through the float?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 5 жыл бұрын
JAMES GRIGALIS - I have a small bead above the float and a stop knot at the depth I want. The bead has a smaller hole than the float so prevents the float getting stuck or sliding over the stop knot. I show it in more detail in this vid. 😉👍🏻🎣 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqDYi3WibM6Gfbc

I love your films, keep them coming 👍🏼😉 An ex course angler I always assumed that sea fishermen kept what they caught. So I’m surprised that you put everything back. In your other videos (foraging) you keep some of your forage to eat. Do you ever keep any fish?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 жыл бұрын
- Thank you so much. We do keep some of the fish we catch, but try to release as much as possible. Only keeping something really special ( like haddock ) or if a fish will not survive release. We have done several delicious catch and cook videos. :)

Generally enjoy your videos - that said, I'm still uncomfortable with live baiting - especially with increasing evidence that fish have more intelligence/sensory capabilities than previously ever thought. Ever crossed your mind? Just curious...
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 жыл бұрын
- All I can say from my own experience is that some fish - like some humans; are smarter than others. As far as measurable intelligence... I'm not sure if fish like this are anything above reacting via instinct. It is a moral dilemma that some people struggle with. I have made my peace with it.
