Sea fishing on the Cornwall coast can offer some wonderful species to catch if you adapt what you are doing. This time of year you really have to make the most of any opportunity you can. Here I explore an area of reef I have wanted to fish for a while and try to find some shelter from the wind and swell. Trying to dodge the bad weather squalls I catch some nice fish and record some incredible underwater footage.
Don't forget to check out our sister channel ‪@thefishlockerworkshop‬ for helpful reviews and videos.
Here are links to some of the fishing tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

Legendary LOL Thanks for your video today!☺ The only luck I had was a large mouth Bass.........don't even want to tell you how it was dispatched....did not taste well at all, but interesting it had some little cray fish or something like that in it's belly. Hello John, this is the first time I have messaged you while I watch your video presentations on KZbin. I subscribed to your channel and bought myself a hoodie for when I recover from surgery and get back to fishing. You probably remember my Son, Matt Holmes, he has been telling you and probably sent a few pictures of the huge stingrays, Angel sharks and butterfly rays that we caught together in November. I have been fishing Fuerteventura for over six years now, sometimes three times a year but my failing health and a promise to my son that I would take him got dashed because of lockdown we finally got to go along with a friend of mine last November. The island offers some amazing fishing. If you get a chance, go to Lobos island, the spinning is amazing from the shore as well as the north end of the island of Fuerteventura. I also recommend you try spinning out by the electric wind turbine near Corralejo, you catch some massive, snapper, dorado, barracuda and other species of predictor fish. The best bait I can recommend is fresh or live cuttlefish, squid or mackerel which you can catch fresh depending on the time of the year when they are more plentiful than others. The local Hyper Dino do have a good wet fish counter for fresh bait as the tackle shops don’t keep it when I tried to purchase it. You will need to purchase a rod license to fish in the sea, don’t buy it on line for an extortionate price when you can get it from the town hall in Corralejo. It’s a bit of faffing around because you have to fill in the paperwork at the office, they give you a piece of paper which you have to then walk to the bank to pay it then take the receipt back to the town hall and they issue you will a three year license for just under €15 which was how much my last license cost even though I have never been asked to produce it. Compared to €58 online, it’s a big saving. I don’t know how much Matt has told you about the island because I didn’t get to take him to a lot of the really good fishing places because dvla have my driving license which I needed to rent the hire car so my friend Nick had to drive us wherever we we went fishing but he likes a drink so we didn’t drive to any of the good places because he moaned that it wasn’t fair that we could have a drink but he couldn’t because he had to drive plus he was a pussy when it came to catching big fish. After he landed a stingray which wasn’t that big in all fairness, 50lbs, which is a little one, lol the big ones are 200lbs plus. I got broken off after two hours of playing one fish which took me round a boat mooring. If you want to know anything, regarding your trip next month, I can probably fill you in on any information you might want, best wishes, yours sincerely Gary Holmes

Love the underwater footage, great to see the fish doing their do, instead of only ever seeing a rod tip quiver, or float go under. The weather is stinking, isn't it? We went to St Agnes this afternoon, oh my God, what an amazing, awesome, beautiful place, and got caught in a squall. One minute it was fine, the next the wind was howling, throwing stinging rain at us. Then, 5 minutes later, it had passed and was fine again. Didn't matter though, that place seriously took all our breaths away. Me and the boys had to pretty much the drag their mum back into the car, she just would not stop taking photos! Cornwall is AWESOME! 😍

nice video like always.the rope of your mooring is twisting, you should put a big swivel between the anchor and the chain. it's the anchor that turns on the ascent, when you tow for too long. this type of iron is annoying for that.I use a piece of shovel handle by making two loops, for the stopper. quickly put on and quickly taken off.

Love that kinda weather...high jinks on the high seas..... April showers in December...even if it makes the fishing hard..keeps us on our toes.....great underwater camera views. Maybe that inquisitive conger could smell chopped bait from your hands as u sent it down... residues on camera . British record mackerel is over 5 lbs I think. There are some anglers that target the big uns 3 lbs +in winter they hang out in small shoals in certain reefs ..if I remember correctly from an article I read yrs ago...

In WW2 my maternal grandfather was a security officer on the Bincleaves breakwater of Portland harbour, at night he put out long lines with whatever bait he could acquire, but he fed his family through the war on conger eels especially when protein was in short supply, but he also traded it on the black market for other products. Basically they are just large eels with some lateral pin bones that need to be removed. Your Cornish neighbour Gordon Ramsey did a program about eating conger eels which you can search on KZbin You just need to know how to cook them

The number of fishable spices reachable by small boat makes me a bitt envious, the shallow sea on the Swedish west coast contains mostly mackerel and small cod. We dont have any tide either + -10CM, nothing to account for. Keep the entertainment coming so i have something to enjoy wile my boat is on land :)

what a fantastic video John...the view underwater is fantastic, & as you say it really is a busy place the sea bed, enjoyed immensely, appreciate all your hard work, as for the camera issues...i got a weather proof / waterproof clear plastic housing for my camera ! & had zero problems with it and im'e out all weather detecting and they are available for go-pro's...ya just have to remember to wipe the lense before ya record...only downside is a slight drop in volume level ..but that's easy fixed with whatever video programme you use, all the best to you n yours...take care, GL&HH Gordon.
