Setting up an ambush or attacking a crew on an island is equally allowed. 'Disputes settled on the waves' doesn't mean literally at Sea, just anywhere where a fair fight can resolve it, as opposed to taking the fight online to messages or forums or something.

I started the game a couple of hours ago with a friend. We caught the same users 4 times in our little ship, I died 4 times, killing 9 times. My ship sank 3 times and saved only 1. In 3 hours of play I lost an ashy key found by fishing and I don't know how many chests. If having 4, 2 new people is fun for you, then you definitely have mental problems. Ruining others' games in this way is not good for anyone. By the way, you only remove future allies or adventure companions, for what? Boredom? If we saw a brig while we were in a sloop I would tell him, “stock up we going to battle.” And sure enough a few days later him and I were taking on the new bosses together flawlessly (mostly).

Blunder buss is annoying as hell, but fairly easy to counter after some getting used to. Just need to be stealthy when boarding and use your sword for hopping away when you see they are using the blunder. All you have to do is predict and after some time you will see people the patern

Honestly, I'm perfectly fine with the idea of being able to steal loot and have loot stolen from me but I do feel like there is a fine line between playing the game and being a jerk. I have never understood what is fun about seal clubbing new players or sinking ships for the sake of being an asshole. If anything, some of my favorite experiences are from helping sloops and newer players fight off skeleton ships and reapers. Acting completely against expectations with no obvious benefit, then the appreciation that comes afterward, in my opinion, is much better than pub stomping all day.

Right, I get your point. But what about this scenario. While being tailed by a sloop, you've fought an npc sloop, and you're fighting a meg, when said player sloop sails by danger close. Only to find about 20 seconds later, the guy from the sloop is under your ship with his bucket out, but he's obviously spying your cargo. Do you let him "help", bare in mind there was ZERO communication so he is basically trespassing, or do you cut that mothertrucker down? I cut him down. I don't need no help, and even if I did, he could operate in the confines of his own ship. There was a good chance he was waiting until i offed the meg, hoping I don't see him if I got another hit from the meg, then he kills me and sets my ship away.

It's mainly PC players. They can do things that xbox players can't. For example, when a PC player climbs the ladder and you shoot them with a blunderbuss while they are still near the bottom of the ladder, they can still somehow, jump on the boat. They can also shoot then grab the ladder again when getting shot. Amazing how they can do that when it takes time to take out your weapon. The sword dash, why is it when I do it, it takes a full 2 seconds to recover after a miss but its takes a PC players a split second to recover after a miss? They can turn run and swim faster. I guess the Ping really does matter. I dont really run into remote controlled PC gamers.

Pirating is a fundamental part of SoT, it always has been, and probably always will be. You might think that this is an opinion, but it is simply fact. The devs have even said this, and if they wanted it changed, they would’ve changed it by now. If you want to only do the pve, then do that. Just don’t complain when you get attacked by pirates in a pirate game. Sea of Thieves is a game where you chart your own course, and if people want to be a thief in Sea of THIEVES, then they should be able to do that.

@@tsunamie1015 You probably already know about these but here are 2 tricks to help not loose your loot. If you're solo slooping just turn into the wind with your sails facing the wind. No matter what ship they are in they won't be able to catch you. If you have loot, then try to get your ship a row boat. When I was a newer player, if I was chased by a biger crew I would put all loot in my rowboat. Then sail by a outpost and detach the rowboat to row it to the outpost. In my experience the people chasing you wil keep on your ship that's sailing away and not you in the rowboat.

I gave up with this game tried to play it solo as none of my friends liked it and I started playing and within 20 minutes of figuring out the mechanics for the boat I got attacked by 4 players over and over again when there wasn't any loot and it just ruined the whole exp

Actual pirates did keep to a pirate's code, because sailing a galleon in real life is far harder than sailing a ship in this game. A well organized crew that kept to a few rules was the only way to actually succeed at piracy. They even had a hierarchy, with officers getting more share of the bounty. If they didn't keep to a code, they would get their ass handed to them by more organized navy ships. Also, most pirates were essentially mercenaries, depending on letters of marque, and were mainly privateers.

And in situations like sot the blunderbus being a 1 hit kill at close range makes it especially abusable for players who are on the game alot more and are better than people who arent on it as much. Sure skill should be merrited in games. But there should never be features/attributes/exploits that make it to where casual players have basically no chance against the people who play more frequently. Thats bad game design. And thats exactly what the blunderbus does in sot. People who play alot, and know the game better are pretty much untouchable to casual players when using the blunderbus.

it doesnt help that the shotgun in this game loads like the rest of the guns, ever single gun is a front loader, one shot reload, with 5 rounds, since a blunderbuss uses more ammo a possible nerf could be using more ammo per shot but then it isn't worth having at all, when every gun only has one shot the most power per shot kinda just wins, and since it is a pirate game range isn't your friend, especially since the sniper has no range, the pistol is meant to be middle of the road I guess but it just lacks any features, the sniper has better accuracy with a clear scope view but feels claustrophobic in close range, the blunderbuss has more raw damage but no range at all... they are kind of balanced but in a game where you want to get on a ship and take loot the absolute lethality of the shotgun at close range means you can essentially storm a ship and a player that either isn't using the shotgun or isn't experienced with it basically doesn't stand a chance, it isn't the only way to win, but when I was getting griefed by a full brig the shotgun was the first thing I grabbed to defend myself since it was just so good at getting people away from me, a smart player just knows when to change the distance and that puts you back at square one. The game is a strange hybrid of competitive and casual gameplay, where I prefer to turn my brain off and just enjoy the aesthetic and the fun of sailing, other people master the weapons and create strategies to take on ships and steal loot, which is an entirely valid playstyle just not everybodies playstyle, it turns me off of the bigger things since i play solo my chances of countering something like that are slim if not zero. The game is less unfair as it is assymetric, some players are more experienced and skilled, and they earn that, other players just wanted to sail around or get loot and not engage with pvp at all, the pve players are essentially merchants, and in a game about pirating the last thing you want to be is a merchant. I think it would be cool to see peacekeepers pirates and merchants establish themselves, you have what is essentially the navy going after pirates specifically, pirates going after everyone, and merchants trying to just get by unscathed, we have two of those and I am not sure we will ever see some kind of authority develop among players but it would be interesting, differing each other with flags would be a neat way to tell them apart though. Just a little idea I thought of now...

Im one of those gamers that actually enjoy the pvp and the pve of SoT. I love that feeling of always having to be aware and on guard but I can't stand toxic players that spawn kill cause I'm a stubborn individual that will keep coming back for more. I've even gone out my way, wasting my time to go get my respawned boat top get revenge. I've succeeded at that and failed more times than I can count. What i like about this whole thing is that theres literally no penalty in this game for dying other than your ship sinks. You might lose your loot, but a couple of voyages (and if youre feeling spicy, a sneaky powder keg or two) can fix that right up. I dunno, people should play this game to have fun.
