I got this game for my birthday last April and watched a few videos to see what it’s about since it was new to me. I have to say, those other videos left me cold about the game because they were quite complex. The game is still sealed since I was thinking of selling or trading it. Conversely, I enjoyed this to-the-point video. I might actually keep the game and try it out.

Small correction - at 3:48 you say the multiplier cards get you points for the cards in your hand. There is an exception for the lighthouse that will also score you points for played boats on the table. Thanks for the great video!

Where in the rulebook does it say that the multipliers only score what's in your hand? Or the exception to the lighthouse card? I know this comment is from 9 months ago but I just got my copy of the game and I don't see this mentioned in the rules.

I agree the video seemed to get this wrong, as lighthouse and school of fish just say "per card" not "per card in your hand". So it seems they should count card duos played. The comment that mentioned lighthouses just failed to mention school of fish too

When you say that if a discard like is empty you have to immediately start a new one, does that mean we need to flip over the top card of the deck to do that? Or just that we have to discard to the empty pile

Spencer - rules question. We played tonight and ran into something not clear. If someone calls "Last Chance" then it says that players play their final turn and then lay down there hands and thus are "safe from attacks". So when you get to the last person what happens if their play the shark and swimmer on their turn? All players will be immune from attacks, so does that mean that they don't get any bonus from playing the shark+swimmer? We played a house rule that they got to at least draw a card, otherwise it seemed unfair. Thanks for the video, we REALLY enjoyed the game.

The "official" rule is that they don't get to steal a card when playing the combo, but you still count the combo in scoring.

@Kami-mk7tu is correct! The key detail of the shark's ability is to steal a "random" card from another player. So, once someone calls "last chance," and all players must lay down their hands, someone with the shark's ability would now be able to choose exactly the card they want, making it a very powerful ability. Of course, it's your game, so if you like how your house rule plays out, keep it. I might give it a try myself! 😀 - Spencer

Sorry! Ran into another question... When saving cards in your hand for a collection, do you wait until the end of the round to lay them down, or can you lay them down anytime? Say you only have 3 of the 6 Shells, can you lay them down now? That way, they can't be stolen from your hand when the Swimmer/Shark duo are played by another player. AND you cannot add to what you've previously laid down. I thought this was the rule (but we can't find it). One player says no! Cause if you picked up more Shells, they would be worthless. He's adamant we are wrong, but he couldn't find any rule(s), or forums, relating to it, either. (if the first rule is correct, could one start a second collection of shells?)

No problem, feel free to keep asking questions! You do not score collections until the end of the round. So no, you cannot lay them down anytime. The only cards you lay down before a player announces "Stop" or "Last Chance" are the duo cards. Does this answer your question? Thanks!

2 questions: 1. If choosing the STOP option, do players also get their respective color bonuses, or do end-of-round color bonuses only come into play via the LAST CHANCE option? 2. Is the mermaid color scoring its own thing, and therefore not part of the “color bonus scoring” from question 1?

Just a guy on the internet trying to help a friend of the hobby: 1: Yes, STOP will not score color bonuses. 2: Mermaid color scoring is its own thing, so if you have a mermaid and call Last Chance, you'll score color bonuses and the mermaids you have. (remember that multiple mermaids can't score the same color/suit)

We're confused on the Last Chance option. When scoring color bonus, do you count them twice if you have mermaids, too? Also, Mermaids are considered white cards. Say you had two, would they be counted if they were your largest color bonus? And then, counted as 1 point each for the other cards' colors?

Great question! If you have the highest point total after declaring "last chance" and the other players' final turns, you will score the color bonus separately from the points provided by other cards, including mermaids. Color bonus: 1 point per card you have the most of. If white is your largest color group, you get one point per card. Add to that the points earned by the mermaid cards. (Remember that for each mermaid card, you must score a different color group.) So in effect, you are scoring multiple "color bonuses" if you win the round AND have at least one mermaid card. You may score the mermaid cards for the color bonus if they are the largest group AND again for at least one of the mermaids. Does that answer your question?

How are the multiplier cards counted? Say if I've got three penguin cards (5 points) AND I have the penguin multiplier (2 points per penguin card), do I first count the 5 points and then count 6 more points? We just started playing this game and it's really fun so far! Love the artwork and design.

Hi there! Glad you are enjoying the game. If I understand your question, you would calculate the points for those separately and then add towards your total. So in the example you gave, you would add 11 points to the total for that round. Does that answer your question? -Spencer

Answer 2: If you trigger the end of the round with "Stop" OR "Last Chance," you must reveal your hand immediately. And as soon as your hand is revealed, you are protected from shark attacks, since that effect instructs the attacking player to draw a random card from the target. - Spencer

I don't think the rules explicitly state you can't play cards before the end of the round. Rather, it tells you what you CAN do on your turn, which is to: 1. Add a card to your hand. 2. OPTIONALLY play duo cards. 3. Possibly end the round. So, one must assume that doing anything other than those three things is not an option. Hope that helps! - Spencer

Hey, Ron. Could you provide a little more context for your question? The lighthouse will give you one point per boat card you end the round with. In the video, I was pointing out that, even though it has a boat symbol on it, the card itself does not count as a boat card when calculating points earned from the multiplier card. Hello Sir, just want to ask about the mermaids. For example, you have 3 mermaids and you want to use 1 mermaid to count the color of the two mermaids, which is white, that will give you only 2 points right? Just like how you use the other mermaids for the most color of other cards. Am I right?thanks

Hello! If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. You could use one mermaid to count the other two mermaids for one point each, as long as there are no other colors with more cards. -Spencer

QUESTION: Can you lay down the collector cards? We see the benefit in doing so and in keeping them in your hand. If you can lay them down they can’t be stolen but the other players know what you need. The rules really don’t say. Thanks.

Great question! The only cards you lay down during a round are the duo cards. So no, you don't lay down collector cards until the round is over and you are totaling your points. Hope that helps!

If you pick up two cards you have to discard one, right? What happens if you pick up two (it’s your first turn as an example, so you have no cards) and it’s a duo? Can you play the duo? Do you then have to discard that card that you got through the duo effect? Thank you.

Happy to answer! If I understand your question correctly... Since you cannot keep both cards, you would not be able to apply duo effects. You wouldn't technically have both cards in your hand at the same time because you're deciding between the two. Does that answer your question? - Spencer

For us the mermaid is still unclear. In this video do you get 4 points for purple? Is the mermaid a four point card as that purple has four? Is that column of cards then worth 8 points? 4 points purple and a mermaid worth four points?

In the example, the largest color group is purple. The mermaid card makes it to where each card in the largest color group earns you a point. Since there are four purple cards, you would add four points to your score only. The mermaid itself isn't technically worth the points, it just unlocks the bonus scoring opportunity of 1 point per card in the largest color group. Does that make sense? - Spencer

The guy at the store I got this from said it was a simple and easy game to understand. This is far from easy (Uno being a prime example of easy). I got my family to agree to play it and there are so many convoluted rules and branching ways to gain points. They were more confused than entertained. I felt bad for making their laid-back card game minds go into overtime.

The instruction "booklet" stinks. It also contains a big lie, saying that you can "Learn to play in minutes", unless of course they mean minutes in multiples of 60. The guy is this video couldn't talk any faster even if he were reading the fine print disclaimers at the end of a TV ad. Thirdly, the cards are thin and the smell (really!). C'mon! For $15 you could use heavier stock and publish them in the EU. I'll give a review of the game if I can convince any of my friends to sit through a better video than this one.
