Sea The Stars!! He was a great horse!! No he's not deceased, but he is certainly Legendary!! He has his ups and downs, as a racing champion!! He's been retired for a while and his off spring is bright and off to a good start!! He's 17 now and he is living his life, to the fullest!! I hope he had many more years to come!! Beating Youmzain who did not win for four and a half years receiving weight is the best performance of all time ??? I think you should look at Pebbles Champion Stakes for starters and then Secretariats Belmont win which was THE best performance of all time by a mile.

Dancing Braves Arc was far better. An absolutely stacked field of top horses and he mows them down like a train. What a performance.

I loved that horse. I couldnt believe what he done in his 3yo season. Kinane was a great jockey. And ofcourse good old Rip Van Winkle deservers an honourable mention I cheered him on in the eclipse but it wasnt to be, he was a consistent horse at the top level.

I would argue Mastercraftsman came closer to beating STS in the 09' Juddmonte International Stakes than Rip Van Winkle did in the Coral-Eclipse. RVW beat Paco Boy & Ghaanati in the 09 Sussex, but got run down pretty easily by Canford Cliffs in the 2010 renewal. He won a very watered down renewel of the 09 QE II Stakes only to be beaten by an average at best Poet's Voice in the 2010 renewal. RVW won a quality renewal of the Juddmonte Internatonal, easily the best win of his career. But 3 weeks later Rip Van Winkle and Twice Over who'd finished 2nd behind Rip at York, both got galloped absolutely bowlegged at Leopardstown in the Irish Champion Stakes by Cape Blanco, and he took a bad drumming by Zenyatta, Gio Ponti, Twice Over and others at Santa Anita in the BC Classic. Rip Van Winkle was a good horse, but far from a great horse. Some of his Timeform numbers made him appear to be better than he really was, IMO.

He was and still is the best we've seen, not my favourite by any means but he proved himself unlike the likes of Frankel and Baaeed who kept to safe distances and home tracks down the road. STS was magnificent.

Of course STS was better, Frankel was mollycoddled and played it safe so we will just never know with Frankel, to be great you have to dare to dream...Frankel didn't....and he beat a substandard lot in average times...much as I loved watching his eye-catching displays....it hugely exaggerated his achievements as when really tested he could only beat Cirrus by a length and Nathaniel by a length...so there was his true form, can't rate him based on Excelebration and Bullet Train...his rating has to be based around Nathaniel and Cirrus...and Cirrus was ageing and had travelled to face him so I have no doubts Cirrus would have beaten him at home the year before.

I don't think any other horse has won 6 group 1s in a season. It looked like Paddington might do it this year but he got beaten. Often wonder what he might have done as a 4yro because the horses he beat went on to win big races.

Pity it doesn't show his, for me, his greatest race. The Arc. For me he is the greatest over the distance. Not sure why Frankel is being mentioned in the comments, different distance horse, you may as well say Red Rum was better 😮 not that I'm having a go at Frankel. We were all lucky enough to live in moment that we had two truly great equine superstars at the same time.

Rather like Dancing Brave he was never tested on soft ground in any G1 race. They pulled him out of the Irish Derby knowing he would have got beaten. Truly great horses handle all ground conditions. It's best to compare him to Golden Horn, i think he's a little better than Golden Horn, but not by much.

So you Think being retired early summer when he was still a top 10f horse would indicate Coolmore weren't willing to risk his legacy against Frankel as they had a good idea what was going to happen if they did race him

All you clowns in the comments, frankel would have destroyed sea the stars without a shadow of a doubt, he didn’t travel anywhere for one cos he never needed too he was the champion and secondly his trainer Cecil was dying people forget these little facts. The horse was a freak and would have beat all opponents over the distances he ran, who knows what he would have done over 12f, sea the stars was very good but wasn’t frankel level no chance
