Sea Harvester: Hydraulics and Engine Installation

In this video we take a look at the extensive hydraulics on this fishing machine. The original builder put a lot of work into this boat, but we felt there was a bit of room for improvement on the hydraulic systems. He had a nice pressure compensated pump, which wasn't being fully utilized as it lacked proper signal lines and the valves were set to open center. The pump was connected to a clutch which isn't really needed on a smart pump. Now the pump is set up to do what it does best, automatically compensate for load or lack thereof. We dropped the engine in for the final time. Getting close... Sea trials are right around the corner!

It's a pilot controlled piston pump. What is nice about these pumps is you can install a control valve at the helm so you can put the swash plate in neutral. Very common here in the Canadian PNW.

So to install a serpentine belt the oil pressure pump has to be removed, I guess that’s not a five minute job?

Yeah not the best design and we generally wouldn't mount a pump that way, but it does work and no matter what if you pull PTO power off the pulley your going to add time to a v ribbed belt change.

Not a big deal if you have fore sight to install a extra belt, secured, ready to go !😉
