I just saw the alternator change video and, judging from the oil pressure reading, that oil pump is either worn or has loose gears inside. Consider an oil pump change for your next project, either a hi-volume, hi-pressure or (best option) a hi-vol & press pump.

The Wix XP will last for 10K plus, but with clean oil and engine. So may last two oil changes. I would certainly get a filter cutter, and cut them open. My opinion of AC Delco vs regular Wix is they are both high quality and durable. Either one is excellent for your 5000 mile change intervals. I use a bypass filter which keeps the oil cleaner. When I cut open a Wix XP at 9500 miles, it looked good enough to use for another 3 to 4K. Hope this helps.

I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma and I only use Wix oil filters and Mobile One full synthetic oil. I do use the extended performance oil and I change it once a year and just check the oil level. 160k miles and runs like a charm. I had a 2002 Toyota 4runner before and I gave that to my mother and it's at 225k miles. I always did the same with that vehicle too.

I have a 95 thunderbird LX 4.6 V8 that belonged to my uncle,if I paid someone else to do it he'd roll over in his grave + the reviews I read of nightmare oil change's helped my decision to do it myself.

Sea foam is good stuff. I stock up on it and have been using it for years. On the oil filter OEM filter are supposed to be premium filters. That orange part in the filter behind the holes is check valve. It keeps the oil from draining back while the engine is off that's a good thing. The filter that you replace the wix filter with did not looked like it had a check valve. I use mobil one or Bosch filters and always make sure on the check valve.

I started using Fram in my old truck till I saw bits and pieces of the filter actually in the oil, along with the oil turning after only a few miles of driving, then I started to use WIX/NAPA filters. Napa uses WIX brand as their own. Now I have a 4wd truck and used to use WIX and never had any problems, but as of late I've been using Bosch. never have used ac delco.

I drive a 1994 Suburban, and used to use the Delco PF35L. They quit making those, unfortunately, and the 1218S just isn't anywhere near as good. The WIX 51060 or 51061 are both excellent replacements though. I would caution against using synthetic oil, though. I ran the very same Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 for a couple of years, and my heads got slammed full of crusty dry deposits. I almost had to chisel that crap out, and ended up taking off the oil pan, pumping diesel through the engine and scrubbing to clean it out. I switched back to conventional 10W-30 and haven't had any problems like that since.

Wix xp filters are excellent if you’re running synthetic like you are(regular wix for non synthetic) As far as the Seafoam, they make one that comes with a really long straw for connecting to your throttle body or spraying into you’re carb that is made especially for top end cleaning.

Time for some K&N products, the air filter will gain you some fuel mileage. The oil filter seems to keep pressure up a little higher than standard. Also, you mentioned lift kit. I recently had the folks at Big O Tires install a 2 inch lift on my 98 suburban. It consisted of replacing the torsion keys, which instantly gained 2 inches, and adding blocks to the rear springs to balance it out. Cost of the entire kit/installation was under $300. It sure makes oil changes a lot easier with those extra couple of inches.

For the driving with seafoam...I drive short distances a few times...I also think soak time on this application is prudent....so a few shorter trips splashes to around and letting it "eat" between those trips seems to help.... Any good NAME BRANDS for filters, constant changing is the key.... Mobile 1 is one of the best! I do the same for a "under the hood light....😀

Both my 3.8 Camaros had bad lifters and on both I have used seafoam. My last 3.8 had severe carbon on the pistons when I took the heads off. Always wondered if it knocked some chunks off and sent debris into the oil. But I suppose the filter should of caught it. I don't think seafoam does as much as people say it does imo. The 3.8's get 10w30 and my Cobalt SS gets 5w and both those cars the oil gets black as night when oil change is due. Like someone already said Mobil 1 has some good detergents that clean well enough. Still good for a smoke show ;).

Sea Foam Is about 3/4 Naptha (a solvent with a medium-ish flashpoint) which is used also as charcoal lighter, and the rest is pure isopropyl alcohol to capture water that can build up in the oil due to many short trips in mild weather where the engine doesn't get warm enough for long enough to boil it off. It's safe to use as directed in engine oil. Can be used in fuel also to help clean injectors but it won't help get rid of intake port and intake valve carbon build up in GDI engines. To do that CRC has a spray product that you introduce through the throttle body. It kind of works but you would have to do it several times and frquently.

If your religious on oil changes, look into a SS-oil filter. It might be over $100.00 except you never have to buy another oil filter for your truck. It’s really simple, take the filter off, take it apart n clean it then check the gaskets, put it back together then install it, it’ll have 1M miles warranty just on the oil filter, do the math. On how many filters then times that by the cost of the filters every 5K

Something that I learned from my Father at a very young age is to fill oil filters with new oil before installing them! Not just oil filters that face upward when installed, but putting some oil in sideways mountings that when the engine is started, the bearings get oil quicker after the oil/filter change. This reduces the damage, yes the fact that there is no oil pressure for a second or two means possible bearing wear that would not happen if the filter already was full of oil!

Here’s how I know that stuff does actually do something to keep a engine clean when used in the crankcase and you are in the perfect position to find out, I’ve done this several times and on my own vehicles as well. Nice truck and i think you said it has about 70k on it, if that’s right your valve cover seals should die any day now if they haven’t already and if you want to keep that thing as clean as it is you will want to change them, if/when you do notice how clean it is. The only difference is I tend to simply dump the whole bottle in about ½ way to the oil change but using a good synthetic like you seem to be will also keep it clean. Also I noticed you have Marvel mystery oil back there, i put that in the fuel on older cars I drive every fuel stop and the intake valves look brand new after 10s of thousands of miles but they didn’t look like that when I first started using it.

For years, I have been in pursuit of the "holy grail" of oil filters. Although every body has an afflinity toward a specific brand, here is my oil filter of choice. After a series of trial periods in a real world evaluation of several brands of oil filters through my vehicles (BMW 530i, 330xi, Chevy Silverado) to name a few...I tried most of them: K&N, Royal Purple, AC Delco, Fram 🤑, etc..., In short, I will only use a Wix XP oil filter with synthetic oil. All things considered in unit cost, internal materials, design, construction and manufacturer product details...the reason for my advocacy in the Wix XP oil filter product line. Hope this helps!

Tom, add Champion who makes Luberfiner, Champ, Citgo. May be more, but the important thing to know is all manufacturers make cheap filters for auto parts stores and quickie oil change centers. They also make better filters for their own brand, and spec. filters for any company that wants to have a 1000 minimum made for them. Oh, and don't forget Baldwin. Many of their filters are made in Poland and Russia.

I use Mobil 1 extended life oil and the same brand name filter. It is rated for 15k miles but I change it every 10k. It is cheaper and more environmentally responsible plus it makes it easy to know when a change is due too! I started at 160k so 170k, 180k, now about to do 240k. I usually put a whole can of seafoam in each the fuel and crankcase and drive to work and back about 80 miles. The first time I done it the oil was really dark but now the oil I drain out still has a dark golden amber color to it in the light. If you have sticky lifters ticking you can add about 4 oz each seafoam & marvel oil and drive a few miles and they will usually quieten down. Too, the Lucas complete engine treatment is as good as seafoam as best as I can tell. That in the crankcase and Lucas injector cleaner in fuel is another option. Just depends on which one is on sale! LoL

I had the same issue with my 1994 F250 where I did not get that smoke cloud after spraying in the intake. I drove the truck for an hour and still no smoke. Needless to say I used my truck two days later and it stalled down the road with engine light coming on and would not start for an hour until it finally turned over and bogged under acceleration and barely made it home, having to stall and start multiple times. I started the truck another day later and it had rough idle and funky engine noise which I was afraid was rod knock from possible hydrolock, with engine light still on. The following day I started again and drove for about an hour and it no issues and engine light was now off, but still no smoke. I started it again today and let it warm in idle, then I told my son to rev the engine and then it appears that all the seafoam finally sprayed out of the exhaust at once in liquid form. I don't know what happened but I do not think I would do it again. I used in crankcase and both tanks and should be sufficient. I have only used supreme gas since I bought it about four years ago so that should have cleaned some things up.

The Mobil 1 full synthetic has a very good detergent package. If you change it every 5k to 6k (and use a good filter) your engine internals should be very clean. It's possible that adding additional chemicals to oil can adversely affect it's detergent package so it is smart of you to change soon after adding the Seafoam. I did not really see any difference in your before and after oil samples. I think you should be fine without any additives, just don't do long OCI's. I also think using a quality top tier gas is important to keep fuel system and engine clean, they contain high levels of PEA which is a very good detergent. Shell (what I use) and Mobil both make excellent gas.

I got rid of my fluorescent light like your and replaced them with L.E.D. Walmart has them and it looks exactly like a standard regular fluorescent light housing, big white shield but has 12 little dots of L.E.D bulbs. Check it out at Walmart. Same price as the fluorescent set up. Has a 45 year life expectancy.

thank you for all the great videos..I had a question to see by any chance if you have any information? just recently while on freeway accelerating I've been getting this faint beeping sound from around the passenger Dash area but only when accelerating when I'm stopped you can't hear it. if the AC in the radios on you can't hear it but when everything's off and you're driving on the freeway you could definitely hear it. any advice on this problem or fix you can give me I really appreciate it thanks again

+Emanuel Hernandez wow, a beeping sound? Like a digital beep? I'm at a loss on that one. Could it possibly be your stereo somehow?

1 Road no not the stereo I have everything turned off on freeway that's when you can hear it, with acceleration...it's very faint my wife pointed it out while camping ever since then it's been driving me nuts. can't find anything on this problem. alot of forums are saying it's the door chime?!?! but I can tell the difference. thanks again for your reply if you come across anything let me know
@1RoadGarage
@1RoadGarage 7 жыл бұрын
+Emanuel Hernandez Well, one way to test the chime is to just pull it. It's located under the dash by your left foot where the relays are. It's big and sticks out the farthest on the panel. With the door open you'll hear a loooooong annoying beep coming from it. As for the stereo, I've heard sometimes even with it off it could still be making noises come through the speakers. Not really sure why that would happen though. Maybe a bad ground or connection somewhere... Hope that helps!

you can't trust card board end caps you might as well not have a filter at all! aka acdelco E series filters this guy uses fram filters(same as the e series with cardboard end caps) as well so it's hard to trust what he says about oil and oil changes.. he also put motorkote in his transmission and rear diff which is totally stupid since it will cause the clutch plates to slip

You are assuming that the darker color is sludge or carbon being released from the engine. It is also possible that the much lighter oil and petrochemicals in the sea foam have a much lower combustion temperature and are burning off and creating the darker color

If the total oil capacity is 4q, does that mean your total volume including Seafoam should be 4q, or should it be 4q of oil PLUS Seafoam?

I've been hearing a lot of conflicting info about filling up your oil filter with fresh oil before you install it (depending on how the oil filter goes on), obviously with your setup you wouldn't be pouring oil all over because it screws up into the housing instead of like my Jeep where it's upside down. So have you ever pre-filled your oil filter before installing? I also thought you're supposed to get the oil somewhat to up to operating temp so when you drain it's all flowing out.
@1RoadGarage
@1RoadGarage 7 жыл бұрын
+GaynNovi I've never worried about prefilling the oil filter. Mine goes on sideways so it'd pour out anyway. I think as long as you're changing your oil on time/ regularly you shouldn't need to worry about getting every last drop of old oil out. So getting up to operating temp just seems like a good way to get burned to me... Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the guys who do those things, I just don't think it's necessary. Thanks for the comment. Keep'em coming and God bless!
