That is the best demonstration of how to chop up squid that I've ever seen. I've always found squid to be kind of intimidating to prepare and cook, but this makes me feel more confident! Thank you!

hi chef i wanna thank you for this wonderful recipe! i tried it tonight and it was delicious! my husband loved it more than i did, consider he's a very picky eater. i tried making with both spring onion and carrot and the spring onion one tasted a lot better since it gives the batter an airy texture. the one made with carrot was more dense but it was still good nevertheless. i think the addition of bonito powder (i substituted with dashi stock granules) and potato starch really made a whole lot of difference! will definitely make this again soon!

I have all the stuff at home! :D except the bonito powder i have isnt really a powder, more like really tiny balls that melt in water so hopefully that could work too...
@cookingwithdog10 жыл бұрын
The bonito powder is basically powdered katsuobushi. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katsuobushi It is a powdered type of bonito flakes. :) What you have now seems to be bonito instant DASHI and it is different from bonito powder. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashi If you use instant dashi instead of the bonito powder, please use a tiny bit of it. :) Minny Kim

Even though I know the Japanese occupation if Korea left an influence in the country, I'm constantly amazed by the similar dishes! In Korea this is called Haemul Pajeon. Thanks for sharing the Japanese way to make this!
@스리스리마스리-z1h5 жыл бұрын
I know this is a comment from 4 years ago, but gotta say Haemul pajeon did not get any influence from Japanese occupancy. Pajeon is definitely Korean dish, not related to Japan at all:) If you have visited Korea you will see many restaurants cook this food all over the counrty. But it is not selling in Japanese restaurants a lot. No offence, but your comment might other people think Pajeon was affected by Japan---which is not true---- so I leave a reply. Korea has a huge variety of national dishes and they are cooked by native-korean ways. Have a nice day:)
