Good job, has a lot of nice information. I personally prefer braid main line 10 or 15 pound test for strength and castability. Shorter leaders 1.5 to 3 feet. In costal saltwater I use a higher test mono and in fresh water I use a similar or lighter test polymer. I would only use fluorocarbon as a main line if I were fishing with slack in the line. For some reason, fluorocarbon is the only line that doesn't lose sensitivity in slack situations. At least that's what my experience has led me to believe.

if you prefer FC over braid for some applications, try polyester lines. They are even stiffer, and even denser, and much more sensitive. I don't use fluoro for main line any more if sensitivity matters

This last summer I used 10lb red label as a leader line for my medium heavy shimano expride jig worm rod. I pulled numerous 3 to 7 pound bass out of heavy lily pads with it. I can tell you it is much stronger than 10 lbs and I had no abrasion problems at all. I also used invizx to a lesser extent but same results. They both have gone to fishing war with me and no issues at all. If I would try something else it would be sunline. And I really miss the seaguar finesse 😭😭😭

i think out of the 3 the Red Label makes the best leader material, despite the other two being stronger

The smoothness of the red label and many other jdm lines comes from it having that level wind technology. I guess Seaguar cheaped out on the Invizx so it does not have that ultra slick feel. Sunline fc sniper is the only line I notice I use without level wind. I would also recommend that line.👍

I fished with my new soare xr 58 ul rod this weekend I hoped to catch some nice crappies, and the leader I used was 5 lb 0.16mm varivas area-super-trout-master-limited-shock-leader-vsp-fluorocarbon(Main line: varivas 0.6 double cross orange pe). For the first cast of my rod, I hit a 4-5pound hybrid striper. I fight for at least 3 mins and successfully land this fish on my boat. Both the rod and leader surprised me a lot. I was fishing under the bridge and a lot of structure there so I could not set the drag to be very loose. I used to use Seager INVIZX 4 lb 0.16mm. This varivas leader really surprised me a lot. I caught 1 striper, 1 largemouth, more than 15 good size yellow perch, and several crappies and the leader was still in good condition. If you have a chance hope you can try these varivas leaders and give some reviews.

Its hard for me to review a leader when i catch only 6” fish. I think some of the function of the leader is not strength, but to provide some elasticity when u use braid or polyester

I think one time you mentioned you really like stiff fluorocarbons. If that's the case you might like Seaguar R18 LTD Hard version (it's the one in the gold/tan box not the regular R18 LTD in the white box). It's the stiffest fluoro I've ever tried. Upside is it's very sensitive with a "taut wire" feeling. Downside is it casts very poorly and only goes down to 3lbs.

thanks for exposing at the end, Seaguar is being cheap on us. The small spools of red label don't even come level spooled anymore. None of the 600 or 1000 yard spools of the other major seaguar fluoro come with the level wind so they're probably not spooled in Japan anymore at all, only the 200 yard spools excluding red label. I've been buying all 200 yard spools of invizx for bass fishing and its more expensive but the line has been very consistent that way. Great breakdown of the lines

Hi Victor, do you think if there is a REAL difference between leader and mainline? there is a test on youtube it shows no difference in terms of abrasion resistance. and in my opinion, it is easy to find a stretchy or stiff mono line for your preference if you want less stretch on your line. and one more thing, do you really believe in the invisibility of fluorocarbon lines, does it really affect your hook rate? just a friendly question.
@ifishcatfish
@ifishcatfish 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of questions man, and some of them were covered in the video.. - What is the difference between main line and leader requirements: STIFF is good for dropshot leader, as u get no kinks and tangles, but its bad for mainline as coils have hard time going through guides in spinning rods. - Abrasion resistance. I never said a word about that in the video because i don't care too much about that. All of them are good enough for panfish and occasional channel catfish. I am sure some lines are better than others in that respect but that's impossible to confirm on the water. You would need some kind of reproduceable lab tests for me to believe you. - Invisibility - True Fluorocarbon is definitely near invisible when brand new. Watch my video of my perch rigs. I am zoomed in, just inches from the line, and you still cannot see it on camera, and I could not see it with my own eyes. If you find mono that can do that please send me a spool. Until then, there is no dispute FC is more invisible than mono, WHEN NEW. The problem is that when you fish FC in stained water, and then take a break, the bacteria from the water dries on your line and sticks to it. Now the FC has color layer on the surface, and if you go fishing 100 yards down the bank, the water there will have different amount of stain, and all of a sudden your FC becomes very visible. That's why i like fresh FC leaders on every session, even if it doesn't look frayed. Just so it is CLEAN. - This one you don't know, but i just learned with Livescope - FISH SEE A LOT MORE THAN YOU THINK! They COME AND STARE AND STARE and turn around! When you see this yourself, you start to appreciate clean fluorocarbon leader and small hooks that don't stick out of the lure too much.

@@ifishcatfish Hi Victor, thanks so much for the details you provide. I wish I could send you mono samples if we both were living in Turkey :). I watched your perch rig video and I understand your point. You are using micro rigs connecting with 0.12 - 0.18mm. using FC in this case makes sense. I was a fan of FC but after reading and searching many articles it started to sound like a great marketing thing. People using FC not only for invisibility but the gravity is higher than mono and it sinks + another reason. I asked you because you are an avid fisherman and you are on the field unlike me :) Thanks for your all videos. I really appreciate it.
@ifishcatfish
@ifishcatfish 3 жыл бұрын
if you fish clear water it is worth spending 10 bucks on a spool of FC, to use only as leader. It will last you a lifetime. It is generally stiffer than mono too, which is a nice thing when u work with thin lines as it avoids tangles. People were catching fish fine without FC for 100 years, so u can live without it, but there it definitely makes a better leader than mono

Very strange that a Japanese manufacturer will play these small games. Not typical. For anyone looking to buy, tackle warehouse Christmas sale: day one is seaguar. My experience with invizx 4#, after a few fish, it starts to fray on the outside and coil, and then when it breaks , it does not snap cleanly, left with two ends with multiple strands. Never seen that in a fc line. It’s almost like the outside starts to loose strength and then the inside follows. My experience anyway.
