Honestly, its not as hard as you may think. When you learn about how much better off they are re-acclimating to the wild than staying, the feeling of happiness for them to be healthy and normal out in the wild overpowers the want to keep them.

Depends on the seal, but for the most part they can be upwards of 30+ pounds. Seal milk, especially those of arctic seals, is basically butter with how much fat is in it. They grow fast and pump up.

Some just do it for sport too it seems, _beating_ babies to death. I seriously wonder wth even goes up into someone's brain to do this, if they're healthy before something must end up damaging them after awhile anyway for sure! My uncle used to work in a slautherhouse where they would kill cows with no pain and still he said after awhile all of them were really emotionally drained (even though they rotated the men in order for them to not kill more than twice a week or so), said if he had to be there for more he would probably go numb, as it was already starting to happen (sort of what happens with some porn actresses where they have to 'shut down' their emotional conection during sex and then later on they can't '''put it back on''' - don't know english enough or the cientifically words for what I once read about this sorry). Anyway, all I mean is: messing with our emotions and physiological needs in exchange of money just doesn't seem to be much healthy and as long as the world depends on that and doesn't find better solutions, people and animals will continue to suffer :/
@dgnyheiardottir1477
@dgnyheiardottir1477 4 жыл бұрын
@animayyy I wasn't really judging those that do it because they have to, I was judging the ones making it only for sport. Then I was criticizing our lack of solutions for people that have to work in very stressful jobs like these, even because I don't believe shaming or even forbidden anything works (as people would continue to demand whatever they want and others in need would continue to supply), so the sollution lies more on education and making things better in a way no one needs to do any of it anymore. And like I said my uncle had to work to feed his family in a not so terrible environment and he and all his colleagues would still go home emotionally drained, so I can only imagine the ones working in worst companies and in worst conditions yet nothing is done about it even if we know is absolutely terrible for everyone; but if we continue to inform ourselves and start working harder to change things, as well as demanding companies and the government to do more - wich can be done often times but isn't because it costs more - people, animals and the environment would become less and less abused. We've already come so far in terms of human and animals rights as well as working conditions (compared to even just 50 years ago), so is all really a metter of time I think fortunately :)

@kiddfaith4397
@kiddfaith4397 4 жыл бұрын
Vergyl G They’re not cuddled in rehab, thankfully, and it’s illegal pretty much everywhere to keep a seal either as or like a pet, unless it’s a zoo. In rehab the only interactions are those that are necessary for the feeding and health of the seal. Otherwise they’re left alone until they can be introduced to other seal pups, where the first real social interactions are with their kind, with the overall goal being to release a wild animal that can hunt on its own, compete with other seals properly, and hasn’t bonded with humans.

@vondantalingting
@vondantalingting 2 жыл бұрын
@@lucyinthesky3684 emotion or instinct? A human loves unconditionally or nothing at all. A father breaks his back for his prodigal son without complaint. And a ragged mother suffers to keep her spoiled brat. But animals? I can only think of dogs who are genuine, and truly loves their owners to the genetic level. If there's one thing I know of animals, it's that we should be thankful we aren't them. If seal mothers cared about their offspring, then they would've had an entire posse with them mobbing anything that moves but instead they follow herds not of their own blood or their own kin to survive. Compare that to humans who sometimes would fight for their own family till infinity rather than raising kids till maturity before abandoning and go on whoring amongst the crowds. Do you still think that's love and attachment? Or is it just instinct. Because if human love was instinctual, you shouldn't dare think of your future grandkids because they won't visit. Human mother's are attached to their kids but there's a point where you'd hate your kids than live them. Humans barely let go, no matter how much parents hate their guts.

I just wanted to tell you this important message. Everyone says that they love animals, but they do not realize that they pay other people to kill them every day just for food, clothing or entertainment. Eating animal products pollutes more than the whole transportation system combined, it is one of the reasons why the world suffers hunger, causes a number of cancers and deseases and many other things that affect our planet. And all for simply eating things that are unnecessary, that affect our body and our planet. We have to match our beliefs with our actions. You can see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKPPc4arqt5oZrs (earthlings [documentary]) and remember, if you do not like what you see, why would you continue to pay for it to happen, because the only reason why it still happens is because they pay for it. We, as consumers, have the power to stop it. ♥

As a volunteer worker myself, I cannot say enough how important and yet underrated volunteer work is. I "only" work together with other teens and young adults in my age at our local community Centre. We organize social events, field trips for kids and teens, learn through group discussions how to improve our work etc. It is actually similar to the work of the volunteers in the video. You learn to take responsibility, to constantly care for the beings around you, and to make sure everything turns out well in the end. To the volunteer workers: thank you. Thank you for taking care of marshmallow. Thank you for doing hard work simply for the reason of caring and empathy. Thank! You! 💙

@pr4208
@pr4208 3 жыл бұрын
@@g.h7657 it does sound fucked up when you think about it. However, the animal kingdom doesn't always follow the rules and morals we have. The majority of animals that give birth to offspring raise them until the offspring are strong enough to move on and start their own families, leaving their children behind and moving on. Some animals, like dogs, horses, gorillas, etc reject and even brutally kill the offspring they consider to be weak or unworthy, or even if they are stressed. Some animals actually eat their offspring. The notion that animals have the morals and mindset that (decent) humans have is wrong. Obviously there's love and compassion in the animal kingdom, but the idea that there's a universal set of morals all creatures follow is fantasy. And in the case of dogs or cats, I'm more happy knowing they're in a safe environment away from predators and given love and attention, rather than getting killed or dying on the street or in the wild. Or having to forage for food and deal with hunger. At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion and a gray subject rather than black and white. Ethics is a tricky subject that isn't always concrete.

Its crazy how much sympathy people have for this seal not having its mother, even tho it was rescued and had adoptove parents take care of it, compared to how little empathy people have towards other humans who didnt have a mom or a dad as a child, when that damages the child for life and is much more tragic

One thing about rescue turtles is that the rescuers can attach a satellite to their shells and monitor their progress after they are released. Really wish there was the technology to do this for other rescued marine life. It would be lovely to know that Marshmallow is still safe and living her best life!
@susanmurrell635
@susanmurrell635 4 жыл бұрын
Penelope Collet There is that technology. I've seen it on TV with whales. dolphins and I believe turtles. The group who saved Marshmallow is probably not connected to one of those groups....it requires funding, equipment, and tracking. Maybe you could research it. Try Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts, maybe.

Thanks Susan Murrell, I have an idea tho, that they just tag dolphins and whales. They don't fit any device, but I will look up the site you suggested. Thanks. Certain wildlife on land, as you probably know, have GPS collars fitted so that they can be tracked, but in the ocean I only know of turtles being tracked via satellite. I'll have a look😊

Most sharks attack from deep underneath at blinding speeds stunning their prey, not giving them the chance to recognize the event. Orca also sneak up and or systematically tire out and drown most of the seals they hunt. SO either way, not being eaten is not so much a matter of recognizing the two sealial killers (sorry couldn't help it), its being lucky enough not to be targeted, or to survive the first attack to make it to a beach.. Seals are not safe from the ingenious Orca's on ice flows, only the beach. ........ all in all not very comforting at all I guess.

When I lived in the UK I volunteered at RSPCA in East Yorkshire, & we had a seal unit. The unit never saw a single seal though, so I used it to put the rescue bunnies on the floor with me to teach them to socialise. I miss that place, but God it broke my heart. We only ever got the neglected or abused cats, dogs & buns..& people would take us to court to get their animals back rather than admit they'd been torturing them.
