Great vid! Do things however you want, I like to have new parts in my hand before I take old ones out. Minimal downtime will put a smile on anyone’s face

do you know if you have to remove the transfer case to replace the seal on the input shaft? Thanks.
@bikerguy31092 жыл бұрын
No, you you just pull the transmission and take off the cover inside the bell housing to access the input shaft. You’ll definitely want to drain the transmission before you pull that cover off though or you’ll end up with a ton of oil in your bell housing.

What is the torque specs on the little straps that hold the drive shaft on in the rear?
@rickstotts9176 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the bolt they may differ. 1/4" round bolt 14 foot pounds. 5/16" round bolt 25 foot pounds. That is thread of bolt diameter, not the bolt head measurement!

Napa has some double sealing lip seals. You definitely need to get some. Had a Felpro pinion seal fail twice in NO time. Napa double lip still bone dry.

Ah that’s good to know! I’ll have to get me some next time I need seals!

never ever drain yer fluid before making sure your fill plug will come out
@MrMrsregor6 жыл бұрын
true, but before he removed the fill plug in the video there was already oil running down the case from the fill plug, so it was probably already removed and he just did not show that part but yes, it is a good idea to make sure it can be removed first

Hey guys, I gotta a 75 gmc 4x4 sm465 manual transmission. I drove it around and I noticed a lot of fluid on the ground. My transmission feels pretty good. Is there two seals on each transfer case? I was just curious. Thx!!
@YOassron6 жыл бұрын
hey man., nice YJ you have there -- appreciate the time you took to make this video, my '90 has a similar leak and looks like i need to do exactly what you did in the vid. Question - how did you know how much fluid to put back in to ensure it was full?
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! Just fill the transfer case through the fill hole til it starts spilling out.

You are supposed to lube or grease the sealing lip area of the seal. Not the green metal housing like you did.

I would remove the housing replace the seal and the bushing ! Complete job done and no leaky ! A worn bushing will cause the seal to fail and leak ! If u dont replace the bushing the seal will soon start leaking again ! Frustrating !
@hasselhoffff4 жыл бұрын
How do you remove the bushing?
@Cody-m6h4 ай бұрын
just throwing it out there, seals are not meant to be installed using grease, they should be installed with both surfaces completely dry
