Don't ever trust a youtube making things look easy, I just installed one last night on a 14 sierra, it was not easy at all. I cussed alot, threw tools & then finally improvised an oil wrench tied together with a zip tie & steel plate to hammer the new seal in. Driveline was another story.....good luck

Yup strange bumping noise thought it was from the rear springs, I’d have put money on it. Had to change output seal on transfer case so greased spline, well guess what no more noise at start and stop. Thanks for your vid! 👍👍

I would think a can would get crushed too easy with the amount of force required to install. I used an oil filter wrench zip tied closed & steel plate to hammer it in.

Well done! A good recommendation is to use blu threadlocker and mark the bolts on the U-joints; just to be sure after few miles that everything is fixed up. I have to check the seal on the front diff btw.

Hi , I’ve recently have my transmission rebuilt almost 2 years ago and I’ve been having an issue with the output seal leaking ever since, so I took apart my transmission to take it to a mechanic to work on it just to save money, so I took the task on diy, never work on vehicles and I certainly did not mark any parts as you demonstrated in the video where you was unmounting the driveshaft. So not long ago I was doing research on the internet what could cause a leaking output seal and one of the most commonly issues were an unbalanced driveshaft can cause vibrations causing the seal to fail , so my question was if you could help me on how to get my driveshaft balance back like it was

I put a new output seal and now the drive shaft doesn’t go in more than 2 inches. I’ve tried everything. Yes it’s fully seated in and there are not any obstructions. What can I do?
@markd.25362 жыл бұрын
My old seal was melted to case. What a nightmare getting it off. My U-joint was bad. Probably caused the problem. Also, my heat shield fell off. (Alpha) I see you don't have one in that area.

Wow this is was a well done video. Thank you! Quick question should I put bearing grease in the drive shaft so won't go in dry, or is that's alright?
@NewRoad6 ай бұрын
Thanks, you don't have to put any grease. But I don't think it's gonna hurt if you lubricate a bit

Clean and grease the inner splines of slipyolk also or you may get bumpstop issue

No gasket maker around the perimeter of the seal? No grease on the inner seals edge that make a connection to the spinning and friction forces of the driveshaft? It wobbles as the casehousing bushing that supports the main shaft wears over time also, which makes the seal go bad. Got this advice from my ToyotaVanTech forum's tech "Timsrv." I'm getting ready to do this job on my 1988 Toyota Van Wagon. There's already some slight wobble with mine before I even took the propeller off. So I bought two seals and will see how long this lasts, or have the tranny dropped by my mechanic to fix. I'm getting ready to do this for the first time and I'm here to see another set of instructions especially how the seal puller is used. Have to be careful not to gouge the inner housing.

I suggest putting gasket maker around the seal also I did mine in a couple of months later and started leaking again

During the vehicle manufacturing process, all driveshsharts are balanced to the specific vehicle. I'm sure your driveshaft had a weight attached to the shaft which is done during the balancing process. Think of it like your vehicle's wheels which are also balanced.
