A trick with the Dynamic Reticle is that if a ship is traveling perpendicular (flat broadside) to you at 30kn (most cruisers max speed is ~30kn), put the line level with the enemies weather-deck, you can lead by 1 mark per second of shell travel time to hit center of the ship. You can use this baseline to increase or decrease your lead from the hip. This trick works because the space between the marks adjusts through the zoom so the relative distance is the same.

@patrickprafke48942 ай бұрын
One thing I caught on early in the American BB line is this. Use that long shot arch to your advantage. At long distance. Aim for the deck. Not the hull. And Citadel the heck out of things as the shell comes in from the top. Strait down threw the deck. I get more Citadels at a distance this way then I do at close range.
@shironee_23842 ай бұрын
1. Always wait for a second after changing targets. This would ensure your aim assist and shell dispersion to properly tracking enemy according to the visuals (as aim bug or high ping / packet loss could messing up your dispersion). Very important if you're playing BBs. 2. Expand your minimap, and use minimap reticles to lead your shells. It helped me a lot for aiming at running away targets and for lobbing shells from behind islands. Also it would train your ability to blind fire smoking cruisers.

I like the nomogram classic top dynamic crosshair. The numbers on it indicate the number of seconds lead you would need if the target is moving perpendicular to you at 30 knots, so you can adjust from there based on what the target is.

Fun fact. There’s a mod where you can get a Dynamic Cross Hair telling you when the shell will land and it does have 2 speeds on it. 20knots and 30knots. They were also very easy to use because it also changes based on your shell velocity. This is just only partially improve your aim tho. It doesn’t tell you the ship angle and their real speed. Means you still have to adjust it based on ship speed. But because of this. It makes you able to able to predict things a lot easier. Average Ships will usually travel. 30 and 20 knots or if they were traveling slower than that it basically coming to a stop. Which is another can comes in to help with Compass mod. This is actually replace the actual compass in the game to tell enemy ship angling which it is also tell their critical angle where if your shells will bounce or not. Green means, Yes. Yellow means 50/50 and Red means, No. This helps you on when was the right time to use AP shells. The down side of this is that it doesn’t tell overmatch. Means you can see the ship nose in as red even if your guns can be over match. Which again, Mods have you covered on Caliber Overmatch statistics. Where you can actually see your gun caliber and how much armor it can be over matched. This is only a port thing and not in real time battle. But atleast some knowledge for you to learn. These mods are fine to use in WOWs because all of these are in Modstation and Aslain. You can use them as much as you like. It is an option. These mods are making your quality of life a little bit easier. Like seeing your team consumable Timer and radius of the Hydro and Radar. Which is actually quite advantageous for you because you can actually abuse it. There’s also a controversial mods where it locate enemy subs when enemy subs is pinging. Which you can see on the screen normally. The mod just making this more noticeable on the Minimap. Which I find much easier to track down.

I hope they, sometime, introduce like a check box or switch to enable or disable the aim helper for those that can do it themselves so it would stop pulling shells off target when the target turns or slows down.

One thing you can also use is the mini-map reticle, especially for angled targets at long range. Having a larger mini-map on screen helps in this regard.

Avoid firing full salvos, specially at long range. Fire _one_ turret, see where the shells are going to fall, ajust, fire another turret, ajust, fire another. You increase your hit chances _and_ keep a steady volume of fire going downrange.

@jlvfr2 ай бұрын
@@hashteraksgage3281 but what are the chances of actually getting the big number at long range?... besides, with a little luck, you can score so many consecutive hits with trick the game won't even be able to update the notifications fast enough. Happens a lot with my light cruisers.

@@patrickprafke4894 using my favourite, the _Normandie_ , as example. If I fire by turret, I wait 4-5 seconds before aimed and fire the next; which means I'm constantly reaiming and firing, keeping shells going. If I fire all then I have to wait 30 sec to reaim & fire, by which time the range & direction of the target might well have changed. Less shots in one try gives me more hits per turret.
@BlackHearthguard2 ай бұрын
@@jlvfr I have noticed that firing a % of your turrets seems to fill out the same % of the shells grouping pattern. So if you fire half of your shells, it seems to fill out half of the grouping at the other end. Also, and again, this could just be confirmation bias as the above is, each time you fire, the RNG part of the shot is recalculated. So I feel I get more hits by "ripple" firing rather than volley. Could all be my imagination tho, lol.
@davidhines75922 ай бұрын
practise helps. experience will make you better at estimating lead distance, and how players will probably react and how to predict where to shoot. but sometimes you will switch ships and find you are missing stuff. this usually (i think) means the shell characteristics are different to the ship or ships you were just playing, and you need to lead more/less as a result. thanks for the SAP advice. i was always unsure if to switch to it for a broadside target or not.
@ElmwoodCertified2 ай бұрын
I don't believe you mentioned the shell travel time is based on a constant 30kts of speed. Therefore, you can adjust up/down accordingly based on the ship and it's estimated actual speed.

OK, I think I can claim to be a fairly decent shot (dev strike on a broadside cruiser travelling in the opposite direction from Republique at a range of 25.4km ? - RNG was kind that day), but all the advice and experience in the world is useless when you have a ship like the (Tech tree) Renown which supposedly has a main battery maximum dispersion of 181 metres....sailing that thing last night, I fired at an almost broadside BB at a range of 5.4km. The shells from the front four barrels landed all round the target (zero hits) while the two shells from the rear turret were a total joke - one landed left of the main group and short, while the other landed right of the main group and long..... With "accuracy" like that the only requirement is a ouija board :)
@ryanbrochu33362 ай бұрын
The value of 181m is for horizontal dispersion at the guns max range of 15.8km, vertical dispersion is a hidden stat. Using the site, Shiptool, you'll find that Renown's vertical dispersion at 16km is 107m. As for your Renown missing the enemy at 5.4km, it sounds like RNG just shoved an un-lubed torpedo up your ass and shouted "NO!!"

@ryanbrochu33362 ай бұрын
Sap is like HE, it has a set value for armour pen. For example, Italian T10 Cruiser Venezia's SAP have 54mm of pen. If a ship has 55mm or more armour, your SAP either shatters or bounces doing 0 damage.

How about a video explaining the relationship between armor geometry and shell penetration characteristics (Have fun avoiding innuendos with that one), especially for us idiots who refuse to shoot anything but AP in Yammy? In one instance I was actually trying to hit a Montana you yourself were skipping; there you were quite well angled and it was bouncefest with a few over-pens for me the entire battle. Meanwhile a Conqueror has a ghost citadel standing broadside, but I've double cit'd them bow-in from across the map. And why is that there is a citadel sweet spot on Schlieffens where they are Nagato levels of soft with big shelled AP but at all other angles seem to have destroyer citadels? These are questions that keep up at night after a long session playing this game.

Probably dum question, however it bothers me to no end. When you zoom in, what are those numbers in the horizontal lines on the both sides of crosshair? Distance, or seconds or smt else? Thanks in advance.
@aurelspecker67402 ай бұрын
Well, I think it's just a ruler to get a feeling for distance and speed. If you are a pro, you could utilize it very hard. Let's say someone sails perfectly broadside, and your shells take 10 seconds. You can just count ten seconds and MEASURE how far he got. Now you just preaim exactly this distance, and you got a perfect hit. In the end, it doesn't work that well. Because the ruler moves with the enemy ship when locked on. (Not sure if you can manually delock? - would be very interested) And people usually don't sail in a straight line and constant speed for a longer time. And finally, if you are capable of using this ruler, you probably also have a pretty accurate gut feeling how far you have to preaim. So basically, this ruler would be used by the real battle ships to calculate their aim.

The difference between Dynamic and Static cross hairs could have been useful. I've only used dynamic ones but not sure how much they differ in terms of skill floor and benefits either way.
@BlackHearthguard2 ай бұрын
The numbers on the dynamic sight correspond to each second of flight time the shell will take to reach the aiming point with the target traveling at 30kn. The scale on the dynamic sight changes based on the zoom level, so regardless of zoom level, the number 4 will always correspond to 4 seconds of flight. This is useful as when you put your central point on the target, it reads out the range, the maximum speed of the target and how long it will take the shells to reach that point.
@ryanbrochu33362 ай бұрын
Static is scaled to a 20knot speed while Dynamic is scaled to a 30knot speed.
