The thing why I like this show was cause, it feels like something Andy would watch in the 90’s, and fits with the Toy Story universe. The 2D art is even the same as on Buzz’s box. That’s why I like the show, cause it feels in canon to the TS universe. Also, the reason why every episode felt one noted, was cause back in the day, Disney had a rule that 2D shows have to have a limited amount of episodes, no big plot that gets bigger like avatar. Just something to be put in Disney Channel, which Disney stoped doing around when Kim Possible season 3 came out, which is why season 4 is plot driven. There’s a whole behind the scenes on KZbin. Also fun fact, the voice of Al voiced Zurg in the show.

the balancing act you're talking about with life-threatening situations and interesting villains at 12:55-13:05 is pulled off really well with shows like Doctor Who, Sherlock, Umbrella Academy, and Loki (in eps 3 & 5 particularly), which is why I absolutely love those shows even though my usual interest in tv shows are short (as in, 11 min or 22-24 min eps as opposed to longer 42-60+ min eps of the previously mentioned shows) TV-Y7 fantasy shows like Amphibia, Owl House, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Dragons: Race to the Edge, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, ATLA, LoK, Trollhunters, 3Below, Wizards, Dragon Prince, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, etc

I always felt the deal of this show was to poke fun at every trope of space adventure while still making a reasonably entertaining show for children. Tragic partner death? Check. Shocking partner survival, check. Shocking partner betrayal, check. I'm shocked, shocked, ok not that shocked. Having XR be a robot so they could safely pull off "killing Kenny every episode" was pretty funny at the time.

I'd like to point out that the climax of this movie was actually taken from a deleted opening of Toy Story 1 where Andy and Woody watch a show called "Buzz Lightyear: Defender of the Universe".
@Individualthatisabsorbant3 ай бұрын
And, Interestingly enough, that deleted scene also inspired the opening scene of Jingle All The Way where Jamie is watching the "Turbo Man" TV series. And the nexus of that movie's plot is the Christmas craze of 95 where Buzz Lightyear action figures sold out quick due the success of Toy Story

The whole POINT of the show is that it’s formulaic pablum to sell toys. It’s an in-universe show that Andy would watch, meant to be just as blah as cartoons of the’80s like Care Bears or GI Joe that only exist to sell toys. It’s perfect in that regard.

Plot twist: Since it was revealed in Toy Story two that the Buzz Lightyear toy had an evil mode, it is safe to assume that the real version did as well. In fact, all the characters did. That is why Zerg was evil with no reason. He didn't have a choice! All his movements were controlled by a technological evilness, which also explains why he was some sort of half robot half human hybrid. It was all because of the evil technology! This also explains why Buzz himself made such terrible decisions. His evil mode was partially on for the entire series, which caused a corruption to seep inside of him and sabtoge him, while the good side of him thought everything he was doing was heroic. I know this isn't realistic in the least, but this comment is a joke. :)
@kathrynnowack96013 жыл бұрын
Toys corrupted by technology. There's something to that. Definitely an interesting idea to unpack. Technology corrupting things that, because they are toys, should be innocent. Choice vs programing. This is visited in a larger scale in Small Soldiers.

Clearly, a lot of the problems you're pointing out are wrong. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was a show made in 2000, back in the 90s and Early 2000s, Animated Shows weren't deep unless it was Gargoyles or Anime or Bruce Tim based, Animated Shows were simply just fun slapstick cartoons. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was a parody of the classic superhero tropes you see in the 80s and 90s, and wasn't taking itself so seriously. It was a product of it's time, but you're thinking it was a product of the Mid to Late 2000s.

I think one thing you need to have in mind when watching the Buzz lightyear movie and show is that it was made to be like the campy early cartoons like He-man or 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s almost meant to be an homage to those shows. And if you go in with that in mind not excepting a serious show, which this show clearly isn’t trying to be, it’s honestly really good.
