After nearly 40 years in the entertainment business, and earning some of the industry's top honors, actor-director-writer Sean Penn tells Tracy Smith the thrill is gone - he doesn't enjoy acting these days, he says, in a wide-ranging interview tied to the release of his first novel, the dark comedy "Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff," about a part-time assassin.

Like him or not, he is authentically himself and a great humanitarian. And a great actor, seeps into a character seamlessly. His private life is exactly that.

A great humanitarian? Does he have the balls to send food and medication to the Venezuelans who are in desperate need of it thanks to their Socialist dictator who is brutalizing them? No, he wouldn't want to offend Maduro.

@Zara Maria Dixon at the time she said the song "till death do us part" is biographical and about her marriage. she even said that funnily enough, it's still Sean's fav song from the album. many people talked about seeing the abuse first hand at their home.. anyway, she forgave him

I waited on Sean in a restaurant in LA about 2 weeks before the El Chapo release. In a room full of A-Listers, he had the deepest effect on me. He’s not a good man. But he’s good at being a man. I just ordered his book.

creativmindplay Listen you dope. I was saying that being a good man is a waste of time. There’s no course of action for that. He’s good at being a man. That’s apparent. I wasn’t implicating that he didn’t prove himself ‘good.’ Perhaps I could’ve worded it differently but Jesus.. looks like you haven’t gotten laid properly in a long time. Thank you for being the clever laptop warrior. We were all ‘waiting’ for that.

Sean Penn is a great actor/artist! On at least two occassions that I can recall, this man has gone to two countries that we were working against the interests of the United States to express "aide and comfort" to their leaders at a critical time when he should have remained home as a private citizen and perhaps, expressed his views in the print media; which is his right as an American citizen. However, to have been so "proactive" as a citizen and not an official emissary of the United States government as to, of his own volition; go to these two countries to provide "aide and comfort" to the two Dictators of them...crossed the line. This is the definitiion of a "treason" under law. Mr.Penn should not have done this and neither should Jane Fonda have done the exact same thing in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1974; when we were at war with North Vietnam.
