Great lesson in masking complex shapes! Sean, you have made me try things I'd thought I'd never try on a model. You break everything down into simple steps. Thank you.

Sweet build. Always have been fond of a P-40. I like your hobby room. Mine is nothing but shelves everywhere. Boy, the belly of that fighter looks stupendous! Good job with that shark's mouth also.

The chipping where the wing meets the fuselage looks great. TY for sharing.

Tex Hill told me that the shark's teeth were painted with "house paint" and brushes....so there was variation from plane to plane.

I was looking at some reference pics and noticed they were all a little different. Had no idea they used house paint but I guess they had to use what was on hand.

Jerry Crandall did an excellent book on the markings and colors of the P-40's used by the Flying Tigers. There was a great variation from plane to plane of the application of the sharks mouth, not only style but even colors with some having blue "lips" instead of black and other variations.

I just got my 1:48 Hasegawa P-40E and it too has the tail as a separate piece to fit on. I've no idea why they chose to go that route. Airfix's P-40B in the same scale isn't like that. Only the back rudder is separate from the rest of the tail fin.

What a beautiful paintwork, it is exactly how i expect it to look from the Revell box art. Thank You very much for a very inspiring build. Lars Heino from Denmark

Great look by painting the shark teeth. One question....how many scars do you have from hobby blade cuts. I’ve got a nice 2 inch scar from a hobby blade cut when I was building a 1/32 scale Stuka.

Believe it or not...only one. Was building a model as a kid and sliced my index finger wide open. Been lucky as an adult, although I’ve dropped them on my leg and foot a couple of times which sucked.

Brill work Sean, love it, there's something about shark teeth on a wingy thing. I keep thinking of doing a 32nd scale kit. I think 8 need to get a few 48th scale kits done first. Stay safe brother

Nice job on the mouth. Nothing like a bit o'patience. It may be free, but hard to come by. The 40 looks good

Man,, you could have mask off each panel line, if you'd just had the one coffee. Seriously though, I gotta get into painting on the markings,, there's just no comparison. She's looking sweet.

I just hate fighting with decals. It’s a little more work on the front end but I think it’s well worth it.
@Killsnapz4 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely worth taking the time to mask instead of decals especially in the larger scales. Every time I start a new kit one of the first things I do is see which decals I can eliminate. I never use decals for any type of stripe or especially tail bands, they always look like garbage when you use a decal.

Looking fantastic my friend. Your demonstration of the technique makes it seem less formidable. Did you use the same technique on the bat on the B-25? Looking forward to the next video sir! Go TRUMP!

Yes sir...that one was a bit more complicated though. Trump 2020!
