great lesson! never seen anything like it. under the bar...my mantra next time out when chipping. probably work for all irons as well.

learned this from a video by AJ Bonar. Normal ball position for chipping or irons and think about hitting low under a tree branch. Your hands automatically move forward of the ball in attempt to deloft the club. Using the same principle it works with driver or irons if you are dragging the ball left. Take a normal grip then hood the face. Your brain automatically pushes your hands forward at impact to square the clubface.

Love this Martin! What you are talking about here is called a constraints led approach and it is task based and therefore involves the subconscious. Here is a podcast from The Brain Booster about this if you haven't already heard it before open.spotify.com/episode/4jGdSVAc3pNSXq1QCX1lbS

Hello Sean. Thank you for this video. The short game is a par killer for sure. You have taken, what many make sooo complicated, to a level that makes it easy and consistent. I will be going to the range today and when I practice my chip shots, I'll be thinking "hit under the bar" ! Keep up the good videos and instruction !!

Thank you David. What is so good about this video however is that there are no tips. It is purely task oriented. You will learn to chip better, quickly by doing task-oriented drills because your focus shifts from internal (what the body is doing) to external focus (what you need to do with the club). In other words, you are communicating with your unconscious which is much more powerful. The main problem with the modern game is there are too many ´tips´ and I try to stay away from them as much as possible because they end up filling and overloading your head with nonsense. Remember, as men, we cannot multi task and to try to do more than 2 things at once (and swing a golf club to hit a ball to a target) is going against the natural laws of science. In other words it is insane!!!

Hello Sean is it a slow back swing then speed up on impact to get the hands moving?
11 ай бұрын
There is no right way here Stephen, whatever works for you. Brian didn't mind a slow backswing so you may have a point. Personally, I do things quickly so I tend to have a faster backswing to suit my natural rhythm.

I really love your videos but please get an external microphone or put some feathering or even household sponge over the inbuilt microphone because it will improve the sound immensley

I only got round to trying this and was really shocked at instant improvement in my strike. Indicating there a lot wrong with my normal action. Just curious if you have tried this (with pupils) on full short iron shots and the outcome. Thanks.

Great to hear from you again Harry! Interestingly enough I haven´t tried it with full iron shots, unless the client is hitting behind the ball a lot causing a fat shot. The fact is, most clients struggle with shorter iron shots because they tend to try to ´lift´ the ball. However, reading your comment and knowing how much you know about the swing and how you appreciate teachers who think outside the box, I may try it with the aim to encourage more forward movement on the ´forward swing´ towards the target (along with the head) with anyone, whether they strike it fat or not. I think it may be good for the low trajectory pitch shots we see the top players making which generate so much backspin. Your thoughts are always appreciated.... So please, if you were thinking of using it for a different outcome please share it with me.

I can chip fine, but my problem is topping or hitting fat, behind the ball, on a full swing? My second swing after teeing off.

Why tell yourself that you're trying to hit the ball under the bar when the loft of the club will take the ball over the bar?
5 жыл бұрын
It is simply to trick the mind into making a natural stroke. Many golfers forget that the loft will do the job of getting the ball and they end up making an unnatural swing to try to ´lift´ the ball in the air.
