Fun fact, the Russian voice running gag came from the original There is No Game, also narrated by the lead developer(he created the original on his own for a game jam), because people kept thinking he was Russian. The lead developer is actually French. And the plot of the (not)game came from the fact that it was originally kickstarted, but failed to reach their goal, but the dev team persisted and made it anyways. They're developing a new game now, so it looks like their efforts were worth it.

The whole failed kickstarter plot bit is actually real - There Is No Game was originally a little flash game, and the creator Pascal Cammisotto launched a kickstarter to fund turning it into a full game. The kickstarter failed to get funded, but he still managed to get the full game finished anyway.

Re: the tongue, a lot of old point and click games would have three buttons: and eye, a mouth, and a hand. Rather than specifically representing one action, they sort of did what the intuitive thing was for that context. Like, you could use the mouth on a character to talk to them, or on food to eat it. That way, instead of having a bunch of different buttons for different actions (like you would have to have a bunch of verbs in a text based game), the actions are grouped together, simplifying the UI. That explanation might not be 100% on the mark, but should be a good starting point if you're curious
