but consider for the riverland farm: it looks amazing at night. when it gets dark, the water starts to look kinda like its bioluminescent. plus, if youre not good at decorating, the small chopped up lands of the island make it so its not as overwhelming when you try to decorate

Hardwood tip for people not on the Forest farm: if you complete the dangerous mines Qi quest, a shrine of challenge will appear on floor 120 of the mines. If you activate it, hardwood stumps and mahogany trees will appear on levels 40 to 70 similar to how big rocks normally spawn. You can grind hardwood similar to how iron is normally grinded using this method

Beach farm is beautiful and I like that it encourages you to spend time on the farm instead of always hustling in the mines. You said it's not good for casual players but I think it's the exact opposite-- sucks for optimizers but very nice for someone who just wants to farm and play with their animals instead of trying to become an ancient fruit wine mogul.

My friends and I picked the Wilderness farm for our multiplayer game, because it’s very funny to hear your buddies come running back from the mines with no health or energy left just screaming as you bravely protect them by playing ping pong with the ever growing number of bats and slimes. 10/10 would pick again

In defence of the beach farm: deluxe retaining soil means you only have to water tiles once per season, and the sprinklerable tiles provide a decent amount of higher quality crops. The insane amount of space also allows for more focus on barn animals which I find kinda cool.

I had the beach farm as my first ever farm, at first I was very confused on why I couldn't use sprinklers, but honestly I quickly realised the "farming" part of stardew valley is the most boring part. I have pigs as my main income source. And now that I have the ginger island, I can do all my farming there. Still, I didn't feel like I struggled in the game by not farming. It was fun, and I still think the beach farm's aesthetic is by far the best.

ive started and stopped playing sdv so many times. ive only completed the community center once out of probably 10 or so save files, each time choosing the standard farm because i figured i was just inexperienced. but i recently started on the riverland farm to see if that would help and it totally has! the sectioned out pieces of land makes it very easy for my brain to choose where to put coops and barns, which was always a huge struggle for my brain that can't really zoom out to see the whole workable space i have in my mind's eye. also cleaning it up is extremely easy. it's definitely not the best for farming, but my absolute favorite thing to do is fish so it's perfect for me! i'm almost done with the community center year 1 which is something ive never even been close to before, though i will probably have to wait until year 2 still because i forgot about sea urchins 😅

Was right there with ya until you put the beach farm in the worst tier. I love the beach farm because it gives you ocean fish right next to your house and for me in the early game it's super nice and convenient since the beach is literally the farthest fishing area from your house and you need a lot of fish from there and they're usually very profitable. Plus the beach farm has an area for sprinklers and it gets beach forageables and crates with goodies. So all the best things.

Here's why the beach layout is my favorite. Right after my first casual playthrough, I grew a bad habit. I always tend to min-max, try to make millions of G as soon as possible and loose touch with a lot of game mechanics, and just fun aspects of the game. Restricting myself to 202 sprinkler-able tiles, means I can't rely on crops alone, (because let's be honest, who wants to water 2000 crops everyday). The beach layout managed to calm my hardcore optimizations. I tend to engage more with npcs, ain't annoyed by small errands like hardwood farming in the secret Grove, stopped mining everyday during the first months/years, etc... Apart from that, I believe it's such a beautiful layout, the beach scenery really fits this game play, and I pulled off my most stunning farms here. I encourage any player that want something new because they experienced the same trap that is min-maxing. The game will feel different. It's another way of having fun, and won't please every type of players, but it's worth a try!

My 2 favourite farms are modded farms and are the polar opposites. Ultimate Farm is a massive farm. Im talking about insane amount of space with spa, quarry, forest area, etc. And the tiny farm The smallest far that currently exists. Its absolutely beautiful and space management is key. Its the most realistic farm to get from your gramps and it just feels like... home.

An actual good use for the area you pointed out on the Hilltop farm for "what are you going to put here" is the rice plants since it's within range of water to not be watered. It's a spring only crop but hey, it's a very good use for the area. I wouldn't say it changes the rating of the farm but just some input on what you can actually do with that space. Later game too it's a good spot for Silos if you plan to have animals. As for the beach farm you can actually very easily overcome the weakness of no sprinklers by rushing pigs and tapping pine trees to build rain totems and the crops you can do are insane with that. Easy B tier in my personal opinion. Nice video though, love hearing opinions on different farm types.

Recent balance changes include: no more fishy minigame when catching trash and other nonfish, you now get the fishy minigame only if a fish is being caught, thus saving time, along with fishing rod tackle no longer loses endurance when catching junk, plus curiosity lure and quality bobble together makes fishing more profitable and riverland farms no longer so weak like it might have been pre-1.5. See 1.5 update logs for reference. Apparently Seanie failed to consider the newest update changes.

My Tier List: S: Forest: daily hardwood stumps, special forage like morels, mixed seed weeds ; foragers gang represent S: Beach: excellent supply crates, actually decent fishing, forage, special Boat painting (but megacrops require effort if you care about that) A: Standard: best for effortless megacrops, outclassed for everything else ; boring A: Riverland: crab pots ahoy, make dat sashimi, recycle dat trash A: Four Corners: little bit of everything -- mini quarry and mixed seed weeds ; jack of all trades, master of none A: Hill-Top: special quarry, free iridium delivered straight to your quarry ; aesthetic B+: Wilderness: It has increased wilderness golem spawns if monster spawning is enabled, which is good for mixed seeds and living hats and fiber et cetera, but reaching level 10 Combat with farm monster spawning in general apparently spawns Iridium Bats, which are a double-edged curse. With spawning disabled, it's just sort of okay-- no significant benefits but okay in a bubble.

I can tell you haven't played very much on the wilderness farm... I want a living hat so badly and I sometimes spend several hours after dark trying to spawn golems, and I usually just get a couple bats and a slime. Definitely not a huge inconvenience, just keeps you on your toes and gives you some extra chances for loot and making progress on monster eradication goals.

I picked Riverland for my first playthrough and I really liked it. I don't understand the comments that say it is hard to achieve perfection on it? I think it's a great farm in the endgame because you have ginger island for more crops if you so desire and you don't need to have extensive crops on your land because you have your ancient fruit wine set up by that point. Another great thing about it is you don't need to build fences at all. I never understood the appeal of the golden clock because my animals were nicely penned in by the maps' water set up. I really like water features and little bridges, so it's my cup of tea. I'm not super into huge design set ups (which would be the only reason I would advise against the farm). I like that my farm has a natural feel even in the endgame.

It's weird the hate that River/beach farms had. At the end game, it's very easy to make all the farms profitable (except if you play a version before 1.5). Just put sheds with garden pots and the best water fertilizer (tier 3). And if you don't have enough to have like 6 big sheds full of products that you don't need to water, you also have Ginger Island farm and the greenhouse.

I want to try a Beach Farm run soon, the no-sprinklers challenge really appeals to me. I think it changes your priorities in the early game. My plan is to upgrade my watering can as early as possible, and unlock Ginger Island where I can use sprinklers and purchase the recipe for deluxe retaining soil. That way I'm still pretty automated in the late game (because hopping back and forth between the two farms is annoying while you're still grinding for the obelisks), just at a heavier cost. And, of course, other sources of revenue become more important.
@meh8982

Guess it depends on your playing style. I don't plant massive amounts of crops usually. On the beach farm I don't mind watering by hand for the first couple of seasons until I can clear out the logs in the area that does take sprinklers. I generally get the greenhouse unlocked as soon as possible, and between that and the farmland area I have plenty of space for crops with sprinklers. The beach farm is great for animals. I never run out of grass or hay. Also on the beach farm you can find forage items, the fishing is better than on most farms, and the supply crates that wash up contribute a significant advantage especially in providing cooking materials. There's lots of space to plant trees, especially mahogany trees for hardwood. Pretty soon you have the Ginger Island farm to plant ridiculous amounts of ancient seeds or starfruit on to make wine, and by that time who cares about planting on the beach. On the whole, the beach farm and forest farm each have certain advantages and I think they balance out pretty much. But I do like the beach farm's open spaces. Recently I have gotten to like the four corners farm quite a lot too.

Wilderness was my first too, and I just adore it. I love that central pond to design around. I have the prettiest circular grove with flowers, beehives, cobblestones, and grass surrounded by fruit trees there. It's still my favorite farm. It's got plenty of space to farm on and a more interesting layout than the standard, so I can make pretty and unique farms that aren't just squares of crops. At the same time it's not as cut up as the Hilltop or Riverland, so it's nice to navigate around. I find the monsters to be a fun addition while farming at night with some useful drops for early game. Free seeds and bat wings for lightning rods? I'm good with that. I also am loving the beach farm, because it makes me think outside the box and farm in new ways. Seanie and I have completely different taste in farms. Min/maxers really can't seem to comprehend other play styles.

Beach farm may lack sprinklers but - deluxe retaining soil, ginger island can't have buildings so you could just fill up the beach farm with coops/barns, fruit trees don't need to be watered so you can make a massive orchard. The beach farm is totally massive and you get crates that wash up as well as forage - both beach and forest in the different parts. In my opinion the beach farm is well worth it and is my favourite farm type. The only one I really don't get is the wilderness farm since in the game settings you can turn the monsters on your farm on/off in settings. It just makes no real sense. Also UGH riverlands was my first farm and I regret everything, there's no space at all!

I have about 17 hours in the game so far. All of those hours are just in my riverland farm. I am finding myself disappointed I cannot do super intricate farm designs that I could do with the regular farm, but I kinda dig the idea of having separate islands for everything. It is my very first farm, so I don’t wanna give up on it just because it looks a little rough right now. I hope one day it can be something I am genuinely proud of! I’m trying to not let my perfectionism get in the way of me enjoying the game. It doesn’t matter if my farm is beautiful by Fall Year 1 or Fall Year 5. The game goes on forever. As long as I am having fun and enjoying myself, that is all that matters. Update: I have about 80 hours in the game, and I am loving decorating my farm. It is Winter Year 2, and I am having a great time trying to design the most beautiful farm I can. I am glad I didn’t give up on this farm when it was rough at the start

Hilltop Farm: There's a HUGE natural fenced area for animals right beneath your house, so it's nice for that. The area up near your house (build a well...) is easily enough crops. The Hilltop Farm is more for people who want to get access to ore ASAP, and for people who wanna do mostly animals and only a little actual crop farming. The area just beneath that fenced area works good for a grove of fruit trees, and the rest of the farm? eh, do whatever with it. It's not that hard to navigate if you remember that until you get the axe to remove the logs and stumps, you go south, cross the river and go south again. I rather like it, it's my 2nd favorite. Beach Farm: Wow, you are _completely missing the point_ of this farm. It's a rancher's heaven. Grass naturally spawns and grows all over the beach. Basically, you build up your barns and coops, let grass grow all over the sand (lol), and then you can have some perennial crops in the sprinkler area, and lastly, use the obelisks to teleport between house and sprinkler area (which also puts you close to the southern exit) and that solves the size of the farm. Also, there's not a whole lot in terms of actual obstacles early-game which is _really freaking nice_ as you don't have to try to navigate around ludicrous numbers of huge boulders, huge logs, and stumps.

Animals and ponds on the top left, a gigantic Tea farm with junimo huts on top right, seasonal crops and bees on the bottom left and last but not least, the biggest and better organized orchard i ever created on the bottom right. I feel like I'm the only riverland farm stan, but i also wanted a challenge and don't really care about aesthetics. You can make things look orderly. If you dont care about decorations, you'll profit a ton off this area, especially in the early game. I suggest just spreading out your buildings with the other stuff in between it and make yourself very narrow and easy to navigate paths. Its a farm you use for profit not for looks, so I think that's why it can throw people off from using it.

I enjoy the monsters popping up for a little variety while farming at night. Free seeds means some free extra crops to sell in the early game, and batwings are great for crafting lightning rods. It's a nicely balanced farm to play on in terms of function versus aesthetics in my experience. Kinda a meme at this point that folks bash it while admitting they haven't really played on it. Lol. Here is my list: S: Standard, Four Corners A: Forest B: Beach C: D: Wilderness, Hilltop F: Riverlands Here are my reasons: Standard farm, has water right next to house, has tons of open space for buildings and organized squares of crops. nothing bad about it. Four corners, has everything you need, plenty of space, easy to decorate and pleasing to the eye, great overall, especially for co-op Forest, big, open, hardwood and forage, looks decent, but very weird shape and the edges are hard to decorate, plus random spots of untillable tiles make it annoying Beach, you can rely on the sprinklerable tiles for a while, and by time you're growing more crops than you can fit there, you have tons of retaining soil from supply crates, crafting or purchasing, so it's not a problem. Tons and tons of open space for buildings, has forage, supplies, not bad. Wilderness, very similar to standard farm, but the monsters get really annoying very quickly and aren't that useful Hilltop, very hard to decorate, odd layout, farming is near impossible, and theres a big rock/lock garuanteed to spawn blocking 2 out of 3 bridges to the rest of the farm until you get a good tool, which is the entire point of the quarry, thats hard to get to and doesnt even help much. But lots of water and rivers to fish, so not horrible. Riverlands, completely utterly impossible to have fun on, decorate, farm, doesn't have a quarry, forage, regrowing hardwood stumps, no space to use sprinklers, build anything, or literally any good qualities at all whatsoever. Worst farm that doesn't have any benefits at all other than fishing, which the Beach and Hilltop farms are good at too. Useless farm completely. Okay the rant is over

I think the point of the beach farm is to encourage the player to earn money from other things than crops. It doesn't want the player to manually water each day, it wants the player to find alternative ways to earn money (and there is crops that grows without getting water)

The riverland farm is really bad for farming, and you can't do much, but its really good for fishing. I was always so bad at fishing I couldn't be bothered half the time, but I tried the river Farm and I ended up fishing all the time. instead of fishing being my lowest, it ended up maxing before the 1st year even ended. so for new players, esp those who find fishing annoying and want to get the hang of it without having to leave your farm and get distracted, its really good to get you used to fishing!

I said this in a reply to someone else's comment but it needs to be said in the main comment section to. I use the Ace's expanded farms mod and choose the xGamAram varient of the riverland farm. It adds bridges that connect all those little islands. And makes some of them bigger so you can plant on them and adds 2 BIG areas for you to build or plant on if need be. One is to the left of grandpa's shrine the other is below the farm house and to the right a bit. The first will cause an area transition the second is just part of the main farm. (You will have to clear a lot of trees though on both first) But honestly it turns it into my favorite farm in the game. And even if you still don't like that there's 37 other farm options you can try. A few for each farm type.

My favorite thing in Stardew valley is fishing, so the Riverland farm is probably my favorite. You make some great points about it though

Fishing is actually decent on the Riverland farm. That's literally its one perk, the entire point. You mostly catch fish, not trash.

I chose wilderness cause its kinda cool to have monster spawning on your farm. I love playing knight.😄

Forest farm was the first farm I picked but I switched to four corners farm because it was too difficult to handle the small space for crops and I needed a more simple farm. The Standard farm, forest farm and four corners farm are my favourites and the wilderness farm is next. The beach farm I still do not know but it looks very nice.

Hilltop farm was my first farm that I got to Skull Caverns & 100% on the switch. I like the look of it but it was extremely challenging compared to the new four corners farm that I play on Xbox

I really need a poll to see what's the best farm and not based off ONE person's opinion. I might go through all the comments on the video and make a tally chart xD

In my personal opinion, Four Corners is the best map, and Wilderness has a really cool and interesting layout :)

there is a simple mod that allows you to put sprinklers on the beach farm. which easily makes it an A or S tier farm!

Forest farm also has fiber with guaranteed mixed seeds, which is great for the early game

i’m on the four corners farm for my main perfection file, and i have the section with the hardwood stump gated off for my animals and it’s so nice and organized too, i have 16 iridium sprinklers with big crops in the quarry section, regrowable season crops in the house corner, and a shed and some tapped trees in the pond corner. it’s so nice to organize i like it a lot more than the standard farm

I'm going to need to disagree with you on the worst farm. Riverlands I can at least put what I want, where I want it... hilltop farm is just so strangely shaped that it's not great for building on and the sprinklers do not work out nicely

Me and a lot of others would like you to reconsider the beach farm placement. Below river farm??? Really?? The beach farm is better than the wilderness at least

As a wilderness farmer loot drop and wilderness golems for the living hat slimes and more mobs so you don’t gotta go to the mines to fight a whole lotta stumps and just one giant lake not little ponds so elite farm change my mind also I started on this one so a tiny bit biased but oh well Edit: also it’s really nice with a good amount of tiles and it’s pretty
