@reality show. I am greatly confused by your response. This was, without a doubt, one of the greatest episodes in the entire history of the show. This is a pay off for 8 years of character development - with all the characters’ adventures and ups and downs. This episode had so many intertwined characters in one place having genuinely meaningful moments. Incredible. Not a wasted moment! And because of their shared threat it was almost a naked exposure of who and what each of these characters has become. There are no more politics, no more games. It showed you who they REALLY were because they have nothing else to lose. And if you match it with episode one it shows you how far each of them has come. I can think of no other show that has ever done it as well.

Here's my theory: The weirwood tree could perhaps be the major key in the war to come. One of Bran’s visions showed a weirwood tree with stones positioned in the spiral similar to the symbol of the Night King. Given that the spiral symbol seems to originate from the stones around the weirwood tree where he was made, the Night King could have something to do with the weirwood tree. In the latest episode Bran mentioned that the Night King wants an endless night and erase the world, with Bran being its memory. He further said that he'll wait for the Night King in the Godswood. The Godswood has a weirwood tree, and weirwoods are nothing but "keeper of memories". The followers of old gods and children of the forest see the carved faces in weirwood trees as representations of the old gods, and also believe that by carving faces into the supposedly supernatural trees, greenseers like Bran and Jojen Reed will be able to witness whatever these ageless trees observe through the eyes of these trees with carved faces. Since trees have no sense of time, the greenseer can see into the past or present when looking through the eyes of a tree, and are able to witness whatever these ageless trees observe. The weirwoods can perhaps communicate their memories and observations to each other through their growing roots. The weirwood tree could therefore be a major key in the war.
