Out of all the Cryo PS1 games this is probably the one I'd say had the most potential to be good, like if someone today picked this idea up and made it a functioning or even good game I'd totally play it.

I feel like the writing for this game is what truly makes the story so strong conceptually. Somebody worked _hard_ on the scenes and settings of this place, and quite a bit of the plot too. It truly would make for a very deep game if it had more polish. You know when they say about remaking games, but we end up with Crash Bandicoot or those classics collections, or yet another version of Street fighter 2? Well, _this_ is the sort of game that should be remade instead. Something that deserves modern sensibilities and hardware, or perhaps just another go around the production line. The closest I've ever seen this happen to was Grim Fandango, an already well regarded game, that suffered with its timing of release and gameplay mechanics (like the tank controls).

Regarding UBIK, look on the plus side: that video totally got me into watching your stuff and the book is really, really good. Every cloud has a silver lining! As for that final Cryo game, Hellboy Asylum Seeker, that's the ONLY Cryo game I have ever owned. I got a (now apparently rare) big box version in a bargain bin for a couple of quid after reading a review in PC Gamer that heralded it as "one of the worst games ever made." It has never been opened nor played. I get the feeling removing the plastic would be like opening Pandora's box.

Something about prerendered textures with baked in lightmaps on realtime polygons running on PS1 always impresses me. It looks jank sure, but there are basically no repeated textures. If they had the artistic chops this could have looked remarkable.

Welcome back Sean! Since it came up briefly at the start of the video, I just want to say this: Cryo's Lost Eden was terrible and the first time I felt really scammed by a video game. The PC mags at the time reviewed it well and gave away a really impressive 40 minute demo of the opening section of the game. It looked neat, I went out and bought it. Turns out the demo was a bait and switch: the rest of the game involved trudging around static screens finding mushrooms and eggs and giving them to dinosaurs. The game is only three hours long: I finished it in a single sitting. The demo was a quarter of the game and 90% of the interesting content! That, for me, was the point where I started looking warily at any game with the Cryo logo on the box.

The reason that some of the stories seem to not make sense or have closure is because the end of level text scroll doesnt function on PS1, which ensures each plot makes no sense. This makes some of the puzzles obtuse as other plot and hint bits also fail to appear. This is why the mansion is bugged with the maid. She should be in the room with the pool table but due to bugged text scroll can never spawn in that room. The holy sword, book, and PK gun are just used by attacking while holding the item. Youre supposed to shoot nungorrath with the holy book. And yes I recently finished this terrible game along with Virus, which gave me a reason to watch the movie its based off of.

The absence of curse during the 6th mission is probably a glitch specific to your session because during my two games (yes, I've finished this game twice !), I lost gradually my energy exactly as planned. Another funny thing in the french version : at the end of the 8th mission, the voice actress can be heard making a mistake in her line and muttering "$h!t" before correcting herself. Note : The writer of the game, François Marcela Froideval, is more well-known as the creator of the dark fantasy comics "Black Moon Chronicles"
