I’m glad I found this video. I started putting my glue mixture on and that white made me nervous! Thanks for posting this!

Looking good. We usually give the track a wash with black Indian ink for the customers layouts that we build that are using fast track. We found this easier and faster. Looks great and brings out the details in the plastic ballast.

Yes, I have seen that too, I should have added that comment in my video. A wash works really well! I hope everyone sees your comment!

Repeat Albert’s comment below, your spacial arrangement of items on the layout is outstanding, very pleasing. Look forward to all future sessions, especially ground cover. Currently building intermediate layout ( somewhere around 2 or 3 4x8’ sheets) to learn Legacy command control, Cab2, before larger one. These session will be great help. thanks, Les

Very informative video, Sean. The success of the techniques you use shows in how the overall layout looks so neatly arranged for visual effect. A very pleasing and realistic look! Looking forward to more tips on scenery.

after i put on the ballast i spray it with dish soap mixed with water that breaks the surface tension perfectly and to fix the ballast in place I use Ponal wood glue mixed with water and dish soap as well also works great to fix Sand for Dioramas as well

Hi Sean, thank you sharing on how you do your ballasting and product’s that you use. Oh I noticed a couple of my comments were gone and I don’t know why. Have a Happy Thanksgiving

I have noticed KZbin will send me an e-mail on a comment I got, but when I go to reply it's not there. I think there is something in their algorithms that remove it, not sure what though.

Prior to setting the FasTrack and doing the Ballasting, any recommendations on things to do to reduce the noise of the FasTrack. For example, should I lay down sound board or homasote on to of the plywood, then use silicone instead of screws thru the homasote into the plywood?

Hi Sean! Great video, and thanks for sharing all of your knowledge! My question is, do you ballast each piece of Fastrack individually and THEN put it all together and secure it to your platform? Hope that’s not a dumb question, I’m in the process of putting my first layout (8x8) together. Also, did you put ground cover directly onto your plywood, or do you have a foam layer for noise insulation? - Matt
@seanstraindepot Жыл бұрын
No, the track is laid down and then ballasted. I have some noise insulator underlayment under the track, but the rest is just directly on plywood. I don't mind the noise myself. Some use foam, some use Homasote on top of their plywood.

Theoretically speaking… couldnt you use kitty litter that is close in color? I would think it would give the same representation and could be purchased in such large quantities for lower price. The only concerns I would have would be major dust possibly? & if its scented ie:lavender the room wouldn’t reak like cats? Dumb idea? Idk just a thought. Maybe if the room had too much humidity it would cause a mess. I need to ballast my sets.
@seanstraindepot3 жыл бұрын
You can use anything you want, but I try to support the businesses in the hobby to keep them in business! Ha-Ha. Plus, I think kitty litter is probably too big in size of the individual pieces to be in scale.

Great video, I really like Lionel fastrak but I wish they would come out with a greater selection of turnouts and switches, Ross and Atlas have a much greater selection.
@seanstraindepot3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do. I used Fastrack originally because at the time the LCS system only worked with it. Now they have modules for all track systems. I would probably use atlas/ross track system now.

Yeah, looks like they stopped making it! Luckily you can just mix alcohol with some water and get same result.
