Also there was a sea-keeping reason for the transom stern, through a trick of hydro-dynamics the transom sterns actually made the water think the ship was actually about 15-20 longer than it actually was and allowed the Brit’s to get away with older dockyards while still having faster more powerful ships
@SeaRaptor7 ай бұрын
I knew there had to be a practical reason they did it, I just never took the time to learn what it was.
@passepathe89433 ай бұрын
@@SeaRaptorit’s a bit more complicated than that lol. It’s true that an equation of waterline length vs beam gives you a theoretical top speed through the water, hence battlecruisers are so long compared to dreadnoughts, but the reason for the transom stern is different. Ship designers discovered that a flat stern creates a wake not only moving away from the ship to the left and right as usual, but also from each corner of the stern moving inwards. These two wakes cross directly behind the stern, creating a wave which actually pushes against it and propels the ship faster than it would otherwise go. Clever discovery.

November and December have been pretty busy. I will have some time next week given the New Year's holiday to get a few original content things back in the queue. Going to continue L2P for Italian destroyers and probably kick off USN light cruisers.

I love them both but was a bit surprised at the subtle but very real differences between radar mino and Brisbane and how that actually changes the play style up a bit

I do run the UU with Smoke mod 1 in slot 3. I find that it is a much more survivable build, and that even though the UU makes your concealment worse, the only ships where it makes any difference are other Minotaurs and San Martin, and even then the difference is barely noticable. The important things to remember are to keep moving at 1/4 speed until the generator shuts off and always mind where the enemy radar is and stay out of their range.
@SeaRaptor7 ай бұрын
I really need to try this build, I've never given it any consideration and it sounds kind of interesting.

I play radar or unique upgrade on Mino. Unique changes the play style. It allows the ship to be a "zoning" Mino. Makes you good a defending against a push. Fast firing unseen and everyone know you might have sent torps.

Looking forward to the Minotaur, am grinding the Neptune and actually find her fun, it's been an easy smooth grind.

I haven't, but it's probably not a bad call. They're not my best ships, it might be good to get some experience in them.

Never understood the distaste for Izumo. I grinded her *after* she received all her buffs and I kept her after reaching Yamato. They are both great BB's. I know Izumo was shit before but she's a very solid T9 BB now.
@SeaRaptor7 ай бұрын
I think for me it's more legacy distaste at this point. When I first ground out the IJN BB line all those years ago, Izumo was garbage. She's had a lot of changes since then, but that impression of the ship has stuck with me because I don't play a lot of battleship.

@@SeaRaptor Yeah I get it, all the old hands in my clan say the same.

Aside from Izumo, the other ship that I’ve noticed have that legacy reputation is Mahan.
@SeaRaptor7 ай бұрын
@@LasertechStudios3142 Concur, and as someone who has played a lot of Mahan in the intervening years I know how unwarranted that reputation is now. So I probably owe Izumo another chance.
@dannyanoname6 ай бұрын
@@AllAhabNoMoby True. I'm currently grinding the IJN BBs and in my oppinion Izumo one of the best ships in the line. Yeah, sometimes it feels sluggish or the guns are doing IJN things but other than that it's a great boat. Amagi is the ship I notice a lot of players dislike and got no idea why.

It’s just how the English pronounced the word. Certainly until far more recently when the American influence has taken over. It was always Theseus and the Minotaur, with the emphasis on the first syllable ‘My’-nuh-tor..
@passepathe89433 ай бұрын
@@SeaRaptor It comes from King Minos (yes, Mynos) and Taurus (Bull). And I guarantee that the ship used that British pronunciation in the last century. Everyone from Drach to Jingles now gets it wrong. Oh well.
