Right back to the same spot we found the Ford F-150, but this time it was a @Jeep Renegade that actually made it a bit farther than the ford did before becoming stuck. The local Search and Rescue team pulled the driver out with their snocat the night he got stranded, and brought him back to town. Two days later he got ahold of me and I took him back up to get his Jeep out. I took my Dodge 2500 and used a 3/4” @YankumRopes to get him turned around,
where he was able to drive out on his own from there. Then when we got back to the bottom, I got aired back up with my @morrflate4tireinflationdef103 tire inflation system and headed back to town.

As far as the crusty snow, it does that all over. I've been driving a big truck for about as long as he's been around. Every state in the country that gets snow does what he was showing. I know I've seen it around where i live since i was old enough to know what snow was, over 50 years!

Welcome to the LaDelle school of getting (un)stuck. Today Casey talks about snow science. You got your rock hard bumper/diff grabbing crust, loose granular tire spinning snow, and tire chains are snow specific (aka really for ice). Not just a doer, he's a teacher. Don't forget your donut date with the kiddo, this is very important for proper daddy daughter bonding, and a good excuse to sneak a donut past your diet.

"single biggest thing is airing down your tires!" SO true. AND second and third are a $25 come along and some simple straps. dont forget the cost of the job also includes the experience. A hack from another area might take many times longer to get a car out, while someone with years of local knowledge does it efficiently, and without risking injury damage. that's worth A LOT.

Casey, you always try to do such an excellent job of describing what is going on, and this video is probably one of the best for the way you describe the process at the end. Of course seeing Riley first thing in a video is always a good thing (even when she's feeling bashful and doesn't want to tell us Good Morning).

As an ex-tow truck operator here in Melbourne Australia, I can relate to what you said at the end of this video, there are soo many variables that people do Not see which is involved in every job. Some companies charge a per km fee from the depot to the job then the time taken while on scene, or....a total job fee once the jobs is completed... and there are many over variables that they charge depending on which vehicle is used and other things needed while on that job etc.. Most people do not understand what it takes to run a business of this type. You are very lucky Casey and the people that you help as you have the KZbin payments to subsidise this then no one gets charged unless really needed etc.

Always enjoy the recoveries, the cute kid is like a bonus. Folks aren't always paying for other peoples time, They are paying for skill, knowledge, experience, equipment, insurance, ect... someone's time is only part of "how much do you get charged". Casey chooses to do business his way for whatever reason but there is no way I would not let him not take a cash donation if he or anyone else helped me.

A comment I used to get a lot when I worked in the field was "That only took 15min, how can you charge that much". My response was always "Your not only paying for that 15min, your also paying for the 20 years of experience that let me do that in 15min". And I said it in a nice way. But yup, sometimes people don't realize everything that is involved in a job.
@javabeanz8549
@javabeanz8549 Жыл бұрын
that is the same in so many fields. In the Internet space, you can not bring up a virtual server in a few clicks, and it takes seconds to complete. But now you have to configure it to do the job you want, and that can take hours, or even days, depends on the complexity. Sure, you can have a server with WordPress installed on it in seconds, but then you have to configure it, customize it and add all your content. Some ads make it sound like you snap your fingers and it's done. As someone with 45 years in computers, I can do it rather quickly, but it takes time to learn it.

Great explanation of the changing snow conditions. This winter has definitely sucked in the PNW for having the “fun” snow to blast through in a vehicle. Also love the call and ask how much it costs or get stuck and find out.😂 You’re a true hero dedicating hours at a time for recoveries and not trying to make extra cash off customers. Truth! Made the mistake of questioning a flat-bed driver who didn't think he could back up to into position to pick up my son's truck where it was parked. I said, "Couldn't you just back to there and winch him the rest of the way (10 more feet)?" He did and successfully loaded the vehicle. Cost me an $80 upcharge for "hazardous loading condition" or some such. Should have just said, "Oh, okay never mind then." and called another tow truck.

Towing prices reminds me of this old repair guy at a factory who finally retired. Their complicated machine broke down and they couldn’t figure it out. They talked him into coming in to have a look. He tapped it a couple places, shook this and that, and finally made a chalk mark. “Replace this,” he said. They did and it worked. The bean-counters complained because he charged them $1000 for this service and demanded an itemized bill … and got this in return: One chalk mark: $1 Knowing where to put it: $999

Your explanation of the variations in costs is spot on and to me very obvious & logical. Sadly a number of people don't see that and think they are being ripped off and cause a scene. They do have the option of getting out themselves if they can, or doing a roadside repair if they can or just stay home and never enjoy the great out doors. Or they can just sucking up the fact they couldn't extricate themselves and NEEDED to engage the assistance of a business that specialises in recoveries. Fortunately you can do some at no cost to the stuck traveller.

I like how the channels I watch are either protective of pricing (because you have to be for stated reasons) or able to provide the service free of charge (like yourself) in most cases. I watch for entertainment and ideas - products sometimes as well. The story of "how" or "why" is very interesting to me. Good thing someone knew he was out and did the logical thing and called for help. Great advise and example of tire pressure and Morrflate - I have to my upgrade compressor first.

One gets also charged for the wear and tear of the work equipment, I notice all the time that people seem to forget that too. As everybody knows, everything you use will brake or needs to be replaced due to wear and tear at a certain point and that happens when one uses it. But in reality everybody seems to forget that until something they use breaks and needs to be replaced
@timwiebe450
@timwiebe450 Жыл бұрын
Casey, I'm saying this very carefully, but saying it regardless. When rocking your truck to initially try to lengthen your track for momentum when stuck, have you ever tried staying on your brake when you get to the end of what it will travel, then shifting with the brake firmly engaged, hitting the gas lightly, then letting off the brake to shoot through the lowest spot where your tires were resting? I watched prior to you winching, and the truck went back to rest before you applied power again. I learned that in these kinds of snow conditions you just described. I fully acknowledge that you are highly professional and proficient, so I don't want to step on your toes. You're a go to favorite to watch!

I really appreciate that you are teaching us as well. Thank you for explaining all the snow driving info. I used to have a full size Dodge van. I’m in a wheelchair so I have to drive a van, but I live in the Tx panhandle and our weather is crazy here. Lol. Yes we get snow, sometimes. Anyway, when I had my full size van we always kept SUV semi aggressive tires on it. When everyone else was stuck or slid into ditches, I was still able to go. I only had trouble one time and ended up sideways on a very steep side road and was seriously worried that the van would roll over. Because it was also a high top van, so it was tall and relatively top heavy. I finally got it turned straight and got going again. The issue was that I needed new tires. If I hadn’t waited to buy tires, I wouldn’t have had an issue. So yes tires make a major difference. Stay safe and God Bless Casey. Oh I almost forgot, I was surprised at how tall Riley has grown just since the last video that she was in with you.
