It’s the same here in Australia! So incredibly difficult to find rentals now . Interesting to see what’s happening in Portugal . Hope you get the apartment!

OMG, the Portuguese have gone insane when it comes to renting , that is crazy. Here in Canada rents also crazy high , but all you have to pay is a 1month deposit, and sign a 1 year lease or you can rent month to month . One of my dreams is to go back in time "sort of" and live in Lisbon for 5 months, since I was born there, but the state of the rent is for me not worth it, I feel grateful that my own house here in Canada is all paid off, that is insane.

We had the same experience in Marseille, part of the reason we came to Bali, only to find it's not our scene and the similar rental situation. It's a new world.

Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room here. The reason the rental market is so insane is because of the ‘expats’ mostly from America have pushed the Portuguese population out of the city. It’s miserable. I spoke to some young people last time I was there and there was a huge feeling of hopelessness. It’s my favourite city in Europe, but the soul of the city is becoming slowly eroded.

Offer and Demand is NORMAL is not miserable.. It's not Expats fault that we dont fight for decent salaries and we keep voting Gangsters into goverment majorities, THAT YES, IS MISERABLE, and that is THE PROBLEM

You sound really uneducated. Portugal was a low cost of living country, salaries were low but it evened out until people like you come here and try to capitalise like you capitalist do. There was never a problem getting property in Portugal until the huge influx of American started coming over. You are the problem. You speak of fighting for better salaries at the same buying everything up and charging 4x the cost. Why don't you return under the rock you came from.@@virtualworldsbyloff

Hey Andrien, thanks for acknowledging the displacement of Portuguese from the city center. I hope you enjoy your time there.

Fingers crossed for you. If you stay for a while it is worth thinking about buying a property, designing it for yourself, to avoid future stress with renting. It is not like Bali, where you cannot own, here you can. It may be a good investment and if you decide to leave you can rent it out or sell up.

In 2024 situatio got even worse, for 1400 € a month you get some decaying apartment build in the 70s in the outskirt with energy efficiency from F to C. I once saw an apartment without connection to the gas pipes and that needed you to to buy a gas bottle to cook and that was for 900€ a month.

Unless you are paying a good extra specific fee for scouts to save you time, or you are buying and nor renting, don't count on them to help you much, in a rental the "Filipa"'s fee after the Remax's fee will be 200€ and probably less, you go look... I saw did that

You are lucky you can pay that much for a rent in Lisbon.I tried for 1 month to find an affordable room in decent area after an eviction but had to give up and leave as it would have meant a too big percentage of the salary on rent.Finding something decent with a portuguese salary is like playing a game at extra hard mode. With your situation is much easier even with the crazy market.

Thank you for sharing your house hunting journey. It's also similar to Singapore where tenants will offer higher prices and it will be gone within a day. Think the high interest rates environment are discouraging people from buying and renting apartments instead.

It’s a tough market, especially in Lisbon. Impossible to say; depends on your budget and urgency. At least a month or two, and not speaking Portuguese could make it more difficult.

Hey Adrian, Lisbon have became a hot spot for expats. I plan on vacationing there in July, also hear that it is very hilly, not easy walkable. Good luck, by the way how is the stand along housing market.

Yes rents crazy everywhere. I just came back to Malaysia and my rent went up from 4500RM to 6000RM a month from June this year. I am not stalking you but I was thinking of Portugal or Greece next. As you say prices have gone up extreme since I started my journey. As for Bali I been there 4 times this year and many times before and actually bidding on a villa now but I am a bit uneasy on what the future holds there. Good luck and hope it works out for you as your information is invaluable to people like me that cant make the first move.🙏👍 (I should not complain about rents going up as that is how I live I have rental properties in Australia sadly a few cancellation so back to 2 minute noodles)

Thanks for these videos. Been following you for a bit and enjoyed all your videos of Bali and now Portugal. I have traveled and lived in both places as well - though a month or so - not more. Watching these videos and the quality of real estate in Portugal vs Bali and difference in lifestyle (from what you can really do with your money) makes Bali a no brainer. Of course all that may be completely overridden by social considerations (dating etc) - as it seems to be in your case and that makes sense. On a standalone basis though, Lisbon while cool is not remotely as comfortable as Bali. Its another European city with a more compelling price point than say London or Paris (or NYC for that matter back home).

Bali is comfortable however as you stated the social conditions are mitigating for me and I would rather feel stimulated than bored.

I thought the idea of living as Digital Nomad was living/working/vacationing at the same time. In my opinion, the apartments in this video are all for living/working minus the vacationing. If I were you I would make Bali as my home base and traveling out of Bali 3-6 times a year. But of course, it’s your choice and your decision.

It’s expensive for renting. in Portugal. The standard cost of living looks similar in US. BTW, if you could drop by Italy to meet up David Bach for tax matters. He is travelling in Italy according to his Instagram. Stay healthy and happy.
