I do like the look of Santo Domingo, definitely a place I wouldn't mind visiting at some point. Ah yes, MamaJuana, I remember it well. Felt like I was drinking a mix of the dirt and roots from the rainforest and cheap rum. Santo Domingo looks WAY more interesting than the resorts out in Punta Cana were when I was there. Might have to find an excuse to go there again! "Came all the way to the Caribbean to watch Asian people dance to Jesus music" 😂 Looks like it was an awesome day!

I get what you mean about the herd and the stick. We've seen it so many times. We just get off the ship and do our own thing now. We don't pay for the tours. They are overpriced, and it is a whistle-stop tour. As we were invariably at the back of the herd, we never heard what the guide said anyway. With the power of the Google Machine, you can find out info on anything these days. The dreaded tourist train. I've never seen three heroes buried in one mausoleum. Unique. Do you think he was blind or just uses it as an excuse to hit people 😂. There's nothing like a bit of Jesus music to brighten your day 🙄. Like you said, I bet it's packed when the 5,000 people get off the ship, imagine two or three ships docking at once. I bet it's bedlam. I love that they still have the old areas and the colonial buildings and they haven't ripped it all down for skyscrapers. Even paradise needs food and trinkets made in China. You have to bring it in somehow, I suppose. The urbanisation of the part helps the whole function. At least they didn't ruin it all. A bunch of new suscribers, too. Can't be bad. A sly attempt to get your phone number there Mateo. I bet they are glad they aren't part of Haiti, even if the occupation was for only 22 years. The Americans are a bit touchy about communist states in their back yard. Matt, sipping a drink, listening to a tune and definitely doing it 'My Way'. Yes, Christopher Columbus, the orignal slave master and wrecker of unique cultures. You have to bring the heathens to Christ even if it is at the tip of a sword. The bag doesn't hide the beer bottle well. Why do they put it in the paper bag? A real nice bar and friendly people too. It helps that you speak Spanish, and people always seem to warm to you. I really need to learn another language. You definitely had a great time. And then the rain comes. Thanks for sharing, Matt. I really enjoyed it. I love living vicariously through your channel.

The lack of tourists is in the city, not the country as a whole. In fact, the Dominican Republic is the second most visited country in Latin America, first one being Mexico

@@no_soy_rubio You should go to the mountains to Jarabacoa and Constanza, completely different landscape, it’s mostly mountains and pine forests. Then the southwest is very dry and desert like. Also go to Santiago and Puerto Plata

“This fried thing on the go”! Vehicles without doors! Well that is one way of getting free air con. Interesting looking building, independence from Haiti! Beautiful walls, some battles must have been fought here. Dominican Rum? Sold! Shops and bars seem to be all thriving, maybe they don’t have the internet or business rates? Ah the cruise ships keep it busy.. ah a few Vende signs, is nowhere safe? Yay, a land train! Big fans of Home Alone, great statue. Nice wedding spot. This place has it all, industry, museum! That really is how you get subscribers! I bet the Xmas Market will be nice, thats a massive place for it. Great find on the plaque! Great spot for an overpriced beer and a rendition of “my way”. Streets where cannon balls line the streets! Looks like an English Heritage site, very easy to access without paying! What a great bar and company! Mmm, crazy goat beer, id have to try that! Dominicans are more Africans and Spaniards than Tainos. Spaniards Colonies if You wanna use the term Colony!, Are completely different from France and England Colonies, The perfect example is right here in this video, The Conlonial zone was built by the Spaniards and we have cities like that on every Spanish "Colony, The Spaniards built hospitals and Universities on many "Colonies". Now check Haiti!, The French didn't build anything, Check England cololonies, Like Jamaica, Nigeria and so on. You will find nothing. Check Brazil!, What did the Portuguese build? Nothing. Check Portuguese colonies in Africa, You'll find nothing. This is why in Dominican Republic we don't resentments toward Spaniards. These 3 empires were completely different. The most beautiful cities in Latin America were built by the Spaniards in the colonial time.

Steaming 😂 I love how whatever country you go to and they bring out their most potent drink they always say it's medicinal 🤣🤣🤣 I think it's to justify drinking it and getting hammered lol. The thing with Christopher Columbus, the statues etc is colonialism along with religion was imposed on people which is probably why they celebrate it but remember that the majority of the population are the descendants of the people who invaded and occupied since the indigenous population was largely wiped out. America celebrates him because they're one of the biggest and most aggressive colonialists to this day and probably admire him. These are just my theories, I could be wrong!
