I enjoyed the information but you didn't mention the price of a dozen tamales. Pork Beef Spicey of both. I'm making a special trip home to San Antonio to get the BEST tamales in the world! The reason I'm coming to S.A. is TAMALES. Right now I live in Misery/Missouri. People here go crazy for Mexican Food but there's no place like home San Antonio,TEXAS.

Delia's cream cheese and jalapeno is the BEST! Delia delivered tamales out of her car trunk to my parents in the 1970s in McAllen TX. We loved and supported her for our lives in the RGV and love they have a San Antonio location.

Tamales originated in Mesoamerica as early as 8000 to 5000 BC. The preparation of tamales is likely to have spread from the indigenous culture in Mexico and Guatemala to the rest of Latin America. The Aztecs and Olmecs used tamales as portable food, for hunting trips, and for traveling large distances, as well as supporting their armies.

True story: We had a new engineer at the chemical plant. He was from up north somewhere and never had much Mexican food. We brought some for lunch so he could try one a few. He picked one up and never took the corn husk off!! We laughed big time but I kinda felt bad for not thinking he wouldn’t know to take the husk off! He did like them though. Growing up in the Houston area we all just knew how to eat them!
@bettybanfield51214 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that either until I saw Tom & Stacie remove the husks.

It’s not Texas but have you been on the Boudin Trail? My BIL suggested that idea so we loaded up the motorhome and headed East to Louisiana. We hit up about 6 different places and parked the Motorhome in the La Berge (sp) Casino and ‘donated’ (gambled) some money to them. They didn’t mind that we parked at the far end of the parking lot and did a little boondocking.

nice tribute - we are indeed blessed here in San Anto, and I also love tamales. didn't make it all the way thru, but just a little nitpick. "tamales" is correct, but the singular in proper Spanish is "tamal" - the word "tamale" is an English "back-formation" (since English plurals are mostly formed by just adding "s" to a singular... "Tamale" has been gradually accepted into American Spanish but would not be as well received in interior México or other Spanish speaking countries.

Hands down Ruben's Tamales are the best in San Antonio, TX. They are made daily, piping hot fresh, and favorable. Victoria's was another great location that y'all visited. Great job y’all! This is so timely for us as we are planning a trip through Texas early 2021 and San Antonio will certainly be one of our stops. My whole family is from Texas so they probably know most of these places too. I am making a note to definitely get Delia's tamales and probably hit up a couple of the others if the wife will let me LOL.
