Wow, Kate came alive in her cabin selfie video! Before this she always seemed so subdued. Social interaction with other young people outside her family seems good for her.
@ariag.87452 жыл бұрын
I really like that you posted this observation here. I've made comments about this for years how I think Kate has paid the biggest price for being on the water all these years with her family. When they first started out she was an incredibly bubbly, gregarious, lively little girl and over time she's just become more subdued, more to herself. Of course we don't see her all the time so you know that might be different but certainly she has changed a lot and gotten really quiet and she was always hit really really hard emotionally when they would leave a port that they had stayed at for several weeks or a month where she got to know other young people and she's just very social and I know it's taking a big toll on her all these years to be isolated with just her family and not have social interaction with kids her own age. So I'm very happy to see her with these young people for the next month!

This is something her parents have talked about already in other video's. They said themselves that they're not sure what choice to make, but they are at least trying things. And in my opinion that is more than what many other parents have done. Even if I don't agree with their opinions on other topics. lol I still have to respect the fact they are exploring options for their kids. Even if some are hard set against other options and beliefs in other topics. As they said before, they'll find out how the experiment goes in about 10 years or so. lol Their 20's will be a time of growth as well. So it's not like damage is being done here. Does it shape a person? Sure. Every experience in life has a down side. But you have to look at what they gain as well.

There were a couple things I caught about Coleman’s situation. Keith greeted him onboard by saying hey “Big Man” and slapping his shoulders. One small remark we saw but we also saw him given the smallest berth in the peak because he was short. I can imagine it felt claustrophobic and being hot and seasick in that captain’s peak was no doubt miserable. The accommodations were not equal and just because Coleman looks like a tough young man who knows if he’s been bullied about his height in the past. Renee alluded to drama on the boat. We will never know the complete story but it pains me to see the type of remarks being made about Coleman. He made a decision and that probably wasn’t easy. We don’t know what his circumstances were at home. I would think there is a normal attrition rate on a trip like this and his leaving will make it easier to handle logistics. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe Rene and Kieth. Can pick up another young male in Saudi for example. Bon Voyage Zatara and all the kids left. Thank you Keith and Rene for giving this opportunity to these young people. Generous and kind.

I sailed without family when I was 13, only two weeks on a 44ft ketch rig yacht with four other kids and two adults, it made me and I loved it so much I did it again the following two years and for longer. "What team oriented activities were you involved in at school such as sports, marching band, scholastic clubs, etc.?" "What part-time jobs did you have after school in your junior & senior years and during summer break where there was a boss or manager over you?" "What specific expectations and chores are expected of you in your parents' house?" (yard work, car washing, babysitting, etc.) Just some random thoughts. But as a parent of three boys, all about the same age as Coleman, Ethan, et al, I would have strongly encouraged them to stick it out - not because I was "punishing" them for having normal human emotions but because it is very important for young adults to learn how to struggle through their emotions in order to fulfill a commitment. Thats also challange for you and your family, to live together with other people for so many days. We received this summer our first few guests ( our family ) and they stayed each 2 weeks. And even if we loved to receive them we also were very happy when they left, to get back our every day single life:)

Your family has inspired me and my husband to create a five-year plan! We have two toddlers right now. I don’t know if you guys or anybody in the comment section could help us figure out what it would be called if we wanted to find someone Who lives a board that could take us out for a week and kind of show us the ropes. I just want to get my feet wet before we totally start this plan lol and this video is that exact reason!

Egypt is a lovely place, been there a few times. Once was a cruise on the Nile. Lovely people but they’ll hound you at the markets to buy something. Lovely history, ancient ruins and temples. 👍

From my experience scuba diving...if you're starting to feel sick, the best thing you can do is get in the water. I'm curious if after stopping to swim, if those that were feeling somewhat sick got their sea legs after reboarding?
@ealba37082 жыл бұрын
The sea is not for everybody, life in the sea is a lot more challenging than on earth, you just can't walk to the store because you forgot to buy the groceries or forget the window open. You have to make it go right. Zatara, I love and admire you.
@mbeck64772 жыл бұрын
It sucks that someone missed out on a spot to join the Zatara to Coleman... Anyone with offshore boating experience knows that it takes time to get your sea legs. I wish him the best and its regrettable that he made the decision so fast.... I'm still planning my trip to live on a Cat with my 15 yr old son and my 15 yr old nephew! God Bless the Whitakers!

It was a risk that anybody with any sense would have taken into account. This isn't the military and no lives are at stake. If the young fella was genuinely miserable, there's no reason to prolong his discomfort. I'm sure he was well aware that there were many eyes on him and some would be harsh in their judgement. There are no guarantees that such an unusual life will suit everyone who tries it and there is no real way of knowing that without actually giving it a shot.
@MissX9052 жыл бұрын
Maybe he was missing his girlfriend or she was getting jealous as there were some nice looking other girls on the boat. Remember when she went to the 1 room and the girls were in there she asked "Is Coleman in here?" Why would he have been in the girls' room?

Coolness! You’ve found a great gem in Jeddah. We’ve been living, working (and sailing) in Saudi on and off since ‘94 and are looking forward to retirement in Texas and sailing on Lake Texoma. Stay safe & happy!

You can definitely tell the ones that really wanted this boat life experience and the ones that just want to promote themselves
@WeggieQueen20055 ай бұрын
They're kids. None really wanted to promote anything. They weren't suited to sailing and that's ok. Why put children down?

Wow! The opportunity you are offering these young adults to discover both the world and themselves is amazing! Back in college, I worked as a yacht club launch driver for an all-sail marina and always dreamed of being able to sail away with one of the boats. If I were 30 years younger, I would have been all over an opportunity like this! Thanks for letting all of us armchair sailors join in your adventures through your videos. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the voyage unfolds for you all!

I am interested in what Coleman didn`t like about boatlife. It would give us viewrs a different perspective if he could share that.

I wonder about Coleman's background. If he's from a small family it might have been too much going on with so many people. It would be interesting to know the "real story". I know I have guts of steal but admit to feeling a little "fluish"when I went deep sea fishing.

Me too, not only am I curious as why he left so fast, but also interesting to hear another perspective from non-sailers ( I love boat life and grew up sailing). I'm also surprised that the kids already miss wifi and Starbucks, when you travel it's all about the new experiences and there is so much to do that you don't really need wifi.

What a great experience everyone is having! It is unfortunate that Coleman is leaving, but he is right in saying that it isn't for everybody. Nevertheless, I am sure he had picked up some great memories that he will share with his family and friends and remember the experience forevermore. I'm glad to see that Kate and her brothers are enjoying the experience so far, with additional crew members! It is good to get to socialize while cruising. We are all rooting for you and the family and crew for a fun adventurous cruise!

Made me think about what would happen if you took some super "city slicker" kids and put them on this adventure. Where I live, we used to detassle all the field corn by hand. We ran an ad to hire teens, and every summer kids from the nearby city would come out, expecting fun in the sun. Most never came back for day 2! 😂 Different life experiences are so valuable, but not everyone fits in every situation. I think its FANTASTIC what you have offered these youngsters! Blessings to you all.

Omg, that part where everyone was singing the theme song made me have such a big sheepish grin😁. That song really is so catchy. I sang it for half of the episodes from start to middle. These lucky buggers get to experience the voyage of a lifetime.
