Both back pieces were amazing. I think Gians was maybe a better tattoo but DJs was a better piece of art. It pushed the boundaries of what and how a tattoo should be because it was off center and not full and i think that was the point. As someone that struggles with mental health, DJs piece definitively spoke to me on deeper levels. No, it is not traditional and it it doesn’t fill up the whole back like it is “supposed” to, and that is the beauty of it. It has all the technical mastery and it pushes the boundaries beyond what the typical back piece does and embraces the “not Normal” side in a meaningful way (it doesn’t just break rules just to break them imo). I am sure it is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a masterpiece to me.

DJ is the GOAT. That back piece was not only executed flawlessly imo, and combined different styles effortlessly, but it was literally a work of art. You could frame that and put it in a gallery. Insanely creative and talented tattoo artist, and given his background and where he came from he deserves all the praise

Gian made two massive mistakes. He stuck to neo traditional the whole competition and he made everyone gun for him. As soon as the judges said the panel of peers was the deciding piece I knew Gian wouldn’t win

I think that's what his point was. It's an amazing tattoo and I'm a huge DJ fan but that blank spot is a design flaw. A full back piece is the whole back not 3/4 or less... Just my opinion. Both insanely talented but I would have given it to Gian for covering the whole back. And am I the only one that feels like the judges copped out by not getting together on a decision and leaving it up to the artists? Was not a fan of that. They're judges all season and then bail on the decision on the final 👎 not cool.

Based on the back piece challenge I would've given it to Gian for following the challenge. However, based on the season DJ gave many different styles so he was the winner in my eyes.

I think Ryan and Gian should have been competitors and DJ as a judge HOWEVER the final back piece tattoo literally made my eyes water. It was art. And someone in the comments said it best, it break the mold of what a tattoo really is. To me & im sure to everyone else, we get something because it makes us feel good & that tattoo was the best we've ever seen on the show. Maybe thats why they had DJ here 😂

I didn't feel like Ryan should have won her season, let alone be a judge. DJ is incredibly talented and should have been a judge imo. I genuinely feel like Ryan gets pushed because of her looks. She struggled on any challenge that wasn't black and grey and whined about it. She may be good at her style, but she is not a well rounded artist.

DJ's back piece is one of the dopest tattoos I've ever seen. The way he incorporated realism and new school, the black and grey with the vibrant colors, I would feel like a walking art show and a f***ing boss with a masterpiece on my back. One of the absolute most real and put together tattoos I've come across. And I study tattoos like professional athletes study film. (Btw, I would honestly be a perfect judge for ink master) I wish I could afford more tattoos and be covered with beautiful art, just hard when I'm a single father of a gorgeous little girl.

I want next season’s judges to be DJ, Ryan Ashley, and Gian sooooo bad. All are heavy hitters with a great artistic eye. Plus I feel like it’d be giving Gian his flowers despite not being ink master, like no he is still on the same level as DJ and Ryan. IMO you put Gian on any other season of ink master and he’s winning easy.

DJ’s back piece spoke to me. Like I felt understood. It’s how I feel on the inside sometimes. Only difference is the face I would have tattooed would be one of indifference. And I loved the “unfinished” aspect because some of our minds never stop. His piece left space for something to come along later to be added on. It had to have an unfinished aspect to it. DJ is a true artist who produces true artwork. It’s absolutely beautiful. It makes you think. It makes you feel. I love DJs artwork.

Same for me. As someone who struggles with mental health, it definitely speaks to me. And the a-typical/ not normal layout, to me is so much more meaningful to me because I will never be perfect, i wil never be “finished”, I will never be like others (and honestly that is the same for everyone whether they admit it or not). I very much appreciate when artists break down the conceptions/ rules of beauty and aesthetics in a meaningful and purposeful way.

Bought myself this Season as a personal Xmas Present 🎁 once I started watching I was glued to it until the end. Awesome season! I respect DJ and his tattoo in the finals, which is definitely better than Gians's, it's just not good to invite the same guy 3rd time, and considering he won twice already. Just my opinion. I can see on Gian's face how frustrating it was, he could have won on season 8 and lost to someone who went back in the middle of the season. No hate just stating facts. Whoever thought of inviting previous winners is a weird guy. They could have done another season where all winners fight for it and get a grandmaster title. And if they eventually do that, DJ will join again and win for the 4th time and they realize how fucked up they did this season lol

I was super torn on the finale. I had to pause it to try to to make up my my mind. I think DJ is overall the best most well rounded to ever be on the show but i do feel it looked incomplete and i really only liked the bottom half. I think Gian should have won just based on that one tattoo although he did play it pretty safe during the season not really branching out much from his comfort zone. So is he really an ink master? i dunno. I'd say Cleen Rock One is the second best ever on the show..

One of the best Seasons, yet it should never go to a jury of peers. Even if you have a better tattoo, they can be biased and pick based on interactions, personality and alliances. Gian might have won. Dave could have been the tie-breaker.

Personally i think DJ was an easy choice. His piece was absolutely beautiful, meaningful, saturated, clean... PERFECTLY executed. Plus, i love the "sideways" flow of the piece, i think it works very smoothly and the blank space doesnt look out of place at all to me. Gian's was good, but i cant say it was super creative or visually that appealing. I wish he wouldve shown us what he can do
