Every season of The Wire has a lot to offer. I am looking forward to Season 3!

Season 2 is one of the strongest seasons. People were just mad it took focus off Barksdale.
@makani90047 сағат бұрын
I do think it's one of the weaker Seasons, but that's just because there are only 5. On any given day I could be craving any of them. It's a very personal season, while also introducing us more to the ethos of the show and the world of Baltimore.

On first watching it, that's exactly how I felt. But watching it again, I liked it a lot more because it really punctuated the pettiness that exists in a lot of what the government does.

Season 2 is strong despite its initial reputation. Many original viewers hadn’t yet understood the scope and ambition of the series so they were expecting more of the West Baltimore drug trade story and were disappointed they didn’t get it. Seasons 3 & 4 are as good as their reputations. You won’t be disappointed for continuing The Wire.

Chris Bauer is the name of the one playin' Frank Sobotka and indeed he is good !
@stephendavis62675 сағат бұрын
Pour one out for Frank Sobotka. Chris Bauer deserved the Emmy that year for his performance -- one of the most tragic characters in television history. A good man who wanted to do right by his people. Like Beadie said, Frank was better than those who he got in bed with.

Shout out to James Ransone who played Ziggy. There isn't a weak performance in this series, but Ransone loses himself in that role so much you forget he's acting. He's done a lot of great character work including the adult Eddie Kaspbrack in IT Chapter 2.

Great reaction! A couple of thoughts: I think Bubs avoided Kima since he told McNulty not to tell her that he relapsed. I think he felt shame and didn't want to disappoint her. Also, I think Omar would have been more skeptical of Stringer. I get his emotions got played, but they've already parlayed since Brandon died. Either way led to some fantastic moments with him and Brother. Lastly, I completely agree on the actor playing Frank. What a great performance.

On first watch, a lot of Wire fans maligned season 2 (myself included) and only came to love it later. I'm glad to see that you already enjoyed the season - gives me a lot of hope for how you'll perceive the rest of the show. You've earned a loyal viewer here.

@@blinkachu5275Same man. Frank is my dude and just the whole dock crew was such a great vibe. Then we have some of the most impactful stuff in the series like the "All Prequel" episode where, among other things, D is killed off. Then you add all the setup for season 3 with Stringer, and it genuinely baffles me that people could hate this season.

Two things about the future Frank (without spoilers): 1. You were talking about how good the acting is. You haven't even met some of the show's best characters yet. 2. You said that just when you think The Wire can't get any better, but you haven't even gotten to the best seasons yet.

Season 2 can legitimately be argued as the best season of The Wire-- people who criticize it only had superficial gripes that were more of an issue with their own attention span/lack of open-mindedness/preconceived expectations/ability to adjust, in my opinion (and initially, I was one of them). Has nothing to do with the actual quality of the season, which is top notch.
@Cream-21285 сағат бұрын
It is definitely not the best season at all. Season 4 is clearly the best. This season got too much crap from fans but let’s not go crazy
@richardkhchang4 сағат бұрын
@@Cream-2128 I stand by my opinion and disagree that there's a defacto authoritative correct answer. Season 4 is the most emotionally engaging, universally relatable to viewers, and popular simply due to the subject matter and types of players involved (it gets a tad overrated because of that, despite being legitimately incredible and among the best), but it's not handled with as much subtlety and understated brilliance/tastefulness as season 2 is, in my opinion, nor is it notably any more well written than any of the first four seasons (MAYBE the first one). Every season besides the last one (especially 2, 3, and 4) has some unique strength that can put it over the top depending on what a person values. Most well rounded and "classic" feeling might be 3 (maybe 1, too), most uncompromising/bold/tasteful might be 2, and most universally appealing/relatable/emotional might be 4. That's all that separates them, in my opinion-- In terms of actual quality, they're all pretty consistent. The way I see it, if you want to win someone over to the series initially, it's going to be season 4 for sure, but over time and after rewatch upon rewatch, season 2 rises to the top for me, personally. I'd actually go 2 >= 3 >= 4 > 1 >>>>> 5 at this point.
