it's hard to accept that someone loves you if you don't love yourself, I think that's what hinders Ichikawa from just accepting Yamada's love and I think in this episode he started to love himself a bit again

Definitely. We've seen him basically realize her feelings, especially after that Shibuya date. But, then his doubts and low self-esteem kick in, and he psyches himself out of the obvious conclusion.

For any of those that find 6months is still too long of a wait, I highly recommend reading the manga from either where the show left off or from the beginning to snag some of the nice extra chapters that wasn’t covered by the show! It’s just an absolute treat to read and reread, finding new details to notice every time

Kana's gotta be my favorite character. I adore her awkward energy. Despite her cheerfulness, she's still an Ichikawa. Aaand there ends my weekly dose of dopamine. What a ride, what a thrill. Such an eventful journey, from them being practically strangers, to him pinning her down on his bed. Thank you for all these reactions. That was absolutely adorable and I find myself already impatient for the second season. The way the first episode opened up with him being crazy emo and thinking himself a psycho killer made me feel like I'd watch one episode and quit... but it was surprisingly heartfelt and rather honest(sometimes to a fault) with how young guys can think. We might not be as outwardly emotional or anything but the level of insecurity is still off the charts. I love how it shows that a single relationship(if not more) can completly change our perspectives on things and can sometimes help us become better; better to ourselves or to others or both. Thank you for your videos on this show, its the reason i found your channel and how i was able to keep watching the show with some kind of other person(because i would NEVER watch this with anyone i hang out with 😂) and i will definitely keep watching your channel. I find your input, mannerisms, and overall excitment very genuine and i enjoy watching it with you there 😁👍

Thank goodness season 2 is already officially announced, but I also couldn't resist and went ahead and binged the manga and am fully caught up and even more hyped for the second season. But this show and now manga has utterly stolen my heart, and I can see why nagatoro's author so highly suggests this, yes the rom is there but so much more about these two dorks growing together and as themselves.

I love how Ichikawa bypasses Yamada's "death touch zones" when he gets flustered over things. Grabbing her waist to hide the akita doggy and to cover his magazine of shame lol. That's just in this episode too lmao. This episode was great. Her inviting him over was a power move because she's already 2-0 going to his place. Kana inviting her over on a whim was so great, but I love that she realized that he "has a chance" and walked into a pole lmao. She's a great sister. Pretty good wingwoman and I'm sure made it easier for both of them to be around each other with his family now. Which is what I was hoping after this shrine episode. But omg the ending with the callback clips of them together and his confession of hanging out with her making school fun. I always get upset in anime when the guy never hugs back so I'm super glad he did. The look on her face was so adorable. And of course the empty bag joke lol. Such a good episode. Solidifies this as my favorite romance this season. I am so excited for S2! We are gonna see her yearbook and I wonder if he'll start hanging out with Yamada's group a bit more since he's only really had time with a couple of them individually.

For those wondering what’s up with norigawa-kun, think of him as calcifer from howls moving castle where they’re both a visual representation of our Main Characters heart. I was confused too first time reading as to why the dude was naked lmao. Knowing what norigawa kun represents becomes very important in season 2! There’s a very touching scene that I’m sure the anime will adapt!

I still think that the ending for season 1 is perfect. This season made me realize that there is more to romance anime than just “confessions.” This series is a slow burner but a very enjoyable one. (17:28) I feel like we viewers have to thank you for your hard work instead.

Was waiting for your reaction! Chapter covered are 54-57, the rest of volume 4. There's so much to say and feel from this lovely S1 finale, so ima try be concise. Kana getting rizzed by Yamada then moving onto playing match maker with them had her being the surprise side MVP of the episode. Kana is a TOP TIER anime sis Anna and Kyo this entire episode was beyond adorable. Seeing it all moving and voiced got to me deeply. We've finally got the reason why Ichi had his cringe behaviour from EP1. Self loathing. He did presented himself and reinforced that presentation to protect himself from expectations. He filtered his classmates AND the irl watchers XD. Moving onto the hug and conversation at school. Kyo wanting to show his deep appreciating towards Anna for her influence on him was good, but the way she responds was an INCREDIBLE highlight. She sent it back to him! She gave him every bit of strength that comes with changing oneself. Being seen, WHICH WAS WHAT HE WANTED, is beyond powerful. She saw his efforts and made him know he had it in him to grow the way he did. Anna is just the best. That hug and his thanks while for the first time returning a hug had me misting up. This is more than romantic love. This is love for themselves as a person and towards the other as a person. Being young and having an early realization of that nature is amazing. Then we have Moe being Moe, sensing the mood but going waaay ahead of what's really happened. Moe is obviously a bit of a punk when it comes to deeper intimacy XD. And to truly end thins, we get a sweet anime only scene doubling back again to EP1, with the empty chip bag but now she's offering one of her little candies. SEASON 2!! We getting season 2 so soon. Be prepared, the pacing for volumes 5-8 is much faster and has tons and tons of content to get through.

It's the end, my beautiful friends, but only for a little while. Six months is SUCH a short time to wait. I expected years! Still, I'll miss having this lovely show to look forward to every weekend, and watching you and Freshest Anime react to each episode. 1:01 The Universe: Lol. Lmao. 1:59 I LOVE the hogyas. The seiyuu's killing it as Ichikawa. 3:48 She put up her act for the Yamada family for SO long. Didn't scarf down food for MINUTES. Her willpower is to be commended. 4:15 I LOVE how similar the Ichikawa siblings are. Kana has many of the same virtues and faults as Kyotaro. Though thankfully Kyotaro doesn't have that penchant for making creepy faces. 5:44 The Ichikawa family all share a single brain cell. They just take turns with it. Kana has the brain cell today. 6:47 The manga extras have a lot of SUPER adorable kid pictures of both Kana and Kyotaro. Another trait they share, apparently: being utterly stone-faced as children. 7:41 Kana's SUCH a good wingwoman. One of the best anime sisters of all time. We'll see even more of that in season 2. 9:17 CAAAAAAAAAAAP 10:22 I bet Ichikawa was expecting to get a "Gross" out of Yamada, but I love that she thinks it's cool. It's not an interest of hers, of course. It's funny how for these two, their actual interests couldn't be further apart. Yet, they both admire each other for their passions and want to know more about it. 10:30 Spot on. Though it's not like he's pretending to like it, either. It's both his armor and his legitimate interest. 11:08 Notice how, for Yamada's POV, the camera tracks down here. She's focusing on a particular part of Ichikawa. This is only ever very obliquely shown in the manga, so I don't feel bad about "spoiling," but Yamada has just unlocked something of a...not quite a fetish, but an appreciation for and attraction to Ichikawa's neck; his collarbone, Adam's apple, etc. Fitting given she's got them vampire bite moles, eh? 11:35 The criminal makes her quick getaway while the victim is still flustered and confused. Maybe she WAS right about leading a secret life of crime! 12:37 Ssssshhh ssh ssh sssh. Ssh. It's FINE, Luna. It's fine. Nothing is weird here. This is normal behavior. Don't worry about it. It's FINE. 13:25 Someone else mentioned this, but given how much Abidas gear Yamada has, do you think she has a modeling contract with them? 14:57 Yamada's response here sums up the entire ethos of this story, I think. Because, this isn't JUST a romcom. This is also Ichikawa's coming of age story, in which Yamada plays a significant but ultimately secondary part. She doesn't come down from above to save Kyotaro from himself like an angel from heaven. She just gives him a little help along the way. It was Kyotaro's own virtue that first turned her eyes his way, after all. As we'll see more and more as the series progresses, Ichikawa's desire to change--to be a better person--comes from within. But, sometimes you need a bit of help. Sometimes, he falters or psyches himself out or wants to give up--and there Yamada is to offer a helping hand or a push from the back, to keep him on the straight and narrow path to a brighter future. We all need such help from time to time, and we'd all be so lucky to have such a companion. After all, more than a love interest, Yamada is Ichikawa's closest companion and friend. That, I think, is why this story works so well. It's not just a tale about a romance; it's a tale about a BOND. 15:33 The armor around his heart falls away before her. 15:48 And unlike the hug in episode nine, he HUGS HER BACK! Progress! Slowly but surely, Kyotaro Ichikawa is becoming a better person. All thanks to the Dangers in His Heart. Eh? Well....what do I need to say anymore? LOL This series started with a fake chuuni who's introverted and weird, and with a girl who does nothing more than eat hahaha I remember when the very first ep came out, some people really felt cringe bc of it 🤣 Me as well, I started to read the manga and in 10 chapters I wanted to stop, but then I was like "you know what? Let's just try a little more", and I know this might be controversial, but when I got up to date (last chapter was 114-115 at the time, IIRC), my FIRST THOUGHT was "this is Nagatoro level or even better". It's really incredible how a series can grow so much over the time. Both MCs are S-tier level and it's SO HARD to find a series with "mature" MCs like that nowadays (I know they are still imature in certain areas, but to their age, they're SUPER mature and conscious of what to do with their feelings). The final hug scene was, honestly, 10x better than a lot of kisses that happen in other anime. The way Ichikawa opens up about how she is the motive he's started to enjoy things, like....she IS THE VERY REASON that this man was able to change (he even got another friend bc of her - Moeko). She's not only the person he likes, she's basically his savior, in a sense. When he looks at the books and say "this was my shield - to push people away", and immediately Yamada hugs him, and scene focus on the books in the ground, like saying "I don't need this shield anymore. I don't need defenses anymore, bc she is here with me"....simply perfect. Like I said, a kiss couldn't represent all that imo. PS: For anyone who's curious, this episode adapted chapter 57, so if you want to continue it's chapter 58 onwards (but I will say tho read chapter 57. They didn't adapt the extra at the end of it, and it's really good lol)

MCFF is very cute and wholesome, but it isn't about romance primarily, even though it got a bit romantic in the end. It's basically a feel-good show about a guy who (unintentionally) helps a girl being bullied by turning each and every insult coming at her into a compliment. If you're looking for romance then I guess there are better choices, but it probably makes you warm and fluffy inside anyway
