Thank you very much Lenore 💕 I could see you making rag rugs - I think they might be something you’d enjoy. Of course my mother makes them too (some of the filming took place in her cottage! And she might have been responsible for the 30s knit too!) Thank you for all your support. I’m feeling much better. I got a cold for Christmas and my father got shingles! 💗🎀xx

OK, so I giggled the whole way through because you're so 'on form', so funny and entertaining!! I've got all excited hearing about your upcoming projects 🤗 especially the Winceyette 😲 gasp of joy !! How I now want to go back to that cosy childhood feeling of sitting by the fire, wet hair smelling of vosene after a bath, Magic Roundabout on the telly in a clean stiff-off-the-line yet soft pair of Wincyette pyjamas!! Tummy full of bangers, mash, cabbage with thick onion gravy followed by tinned peaches and evaporated milk ... Meantime, I do hope you make a flowery flannelette house smock and wear it with a fetching fur fabric hood, tightly drawn under the chin with a bow, giving a pink cheeked moonface grin. Oh yes, I can picture it now 🤔
@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
Thank you for understanding my inspiration! Yes, mums of the 70s couldn’t take the softness out of wincyette even with those detergenty boil washes they loved so much! They could strip one’s hair with those bubbly shampoos though. Head and Shoulders was favoured in my household. Though I don’t think any of us had dandruff. Well, we wouldn’t would we?! 🤣 How I remember my suspicion of those first shampoos that didn’t explode into masses of bubbles. Loved the Magic Roundabout. Dougal’s dry sense of humour will ever be appreciated (along with tinned peaches and ‘Carnation’. Yes, my style will be 5 year old teddy bear coat with hood meets granny chic. It’ll catch on, mark my words. You saw it here first!

The machine then startling into manic mode and jigging across the kitchen floor 🤣 🎠 🎠 Dougal was the star, I had a soft spot for Brian 🐌 and spaced out Dylan 🐰 Later years, Willo the Wisp appeared 📺 with Evil Edna! 😂 I loved it. Hi Samantha! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! Oh! Please do make that 1960s nighty with the blue floral fabric. 😍 It's so funny to hear you say you get "separation anxiety" from your dogs. I was literally just saying that to a friend yesterday, describing myself when i'm away from my two pups for too long! 🤣🤣 I know they're fine but I still can't help but feel concerned. 🤦🏼♀️I can't help but feel quite silly about the whole thing. 😆 What a great idea using the make do and mend for those skirts! I can't wait to see what you do! 😱😱😱Omg I can't wait to check out your digital online shop! 🤯☺️☺️☺️🩷
@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
Hi Laura, right the nighty in the blue floral fabric is underway. Well, I’ve ironed the fabric (lots of it) and investigated the pattern. It was my mum’s and I see she never used it. I suspect our pups observe our concern for them and use it to their advantage. Mine pull tragic expressions if I so much as venture out to do the food shop! Then hint that a little treat might calm frazzled doggy nerves. I’ve mentioned the digital shop to make myself get going on it. It might take a while though! I’ve been staring at those skirts. None of them quite go together. I’ll be interested to see what I do too! 😆 Thank you for all your support! ❤️

Fun video! I find it amazing that so many don't realize the value of wool! I find the same attitude here in thrift stores and it makes for great bargains on wool pieces that can be remade, if the store will stock them in the first place! I've encouraged a local shop to yes please stock wool coats and other items in natural fibers! I WILL buy them.😂
@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
Yes! If my mum didn’t volunteer in the shop all those wool skirts would have been chucked or (maybe) parcelled up and sent abroad. Not even a moth nibble (which definitely means wool clothes are doomed). I’m currently making a 20s dress from a beautiful wool shawl my mum also saved (that is riddled with moth holes mind you 😆) Apparently people don’t want the hassle of hand washing yet most washing machines have a low temperature wool cycle now. (I did go into all of this but then edited it out of my video in case I’d got on a soapbox and gone on too long!) Thank you for encouraging me! 💗

Thank you for your verbal preface and contents list for your forthcoming KZbin videos. I can't wait for your video on 'What Men Think Women Should Wear And How They Should Behave' I may dare to comment, I am not scared of being in a tiny minority. I know you are talking to a female audience. Samantha you have your own unique style and I find it very endearing. If I was brave enough to offer advice on how women should look and behave maybe I would just point them in the direction of your KZbin and Insta accounts.
@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
Oh Ian thank you so much! I suspect that the men who were prepared to pontificate in print about how women should look and behave were the very ones who should never have been asked to do so. Isn’t it often the way?! As I remember one had some most judgemental things to say about a woman who emerged from the sea looking bedraggled in a soggy knitted swimsuit. At that moment for him love was dead. (I think she had a lucky escape!)

@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
Thank you very much Masha. I actually have two kimonos from the 1930s. The one in the video is especially ornate and special. It came to me through my mum’s husband’s family and one of the great Anglo Irish houses that were burned down during the protests. So it was amazing that it survived. Of course I treasure it. ❤️

Comfy cosy, fantastic just my sort of thing. When I get my own place sorted and my sewing machine out of storage I think I'd like to make more plus fours and knicker bockers great for dog walks across Beeley Moor or the grounds of Chatsworth house. I am also thinking more skirt/secret culottes in tweeds for walking although in my head fashionable 30's style, but in reality more Barbara Woodhouse/Hyacinth Bouquet 🤣🤣🤣. I was really interested in the rag rug section too, think I will watch any rag rug projects you have coming up avidly. Lots of lovely tweeds and fabric eye candy I do love your little catch ups. Happy New Year lovely xxx P.S. thx for our little chat.

I think what we look like in our imagination is what matters! I’m thinking like you, tweedy culottes from all those skirts my mum gave me! I’ll probably look rather extraordinary if they’re made from different skirts patched together. Apparently the nation did start to look a little eccentric during the war years! Perhaps if I can channel Barbara Woodhouse there’s a chance my dogs might be obedient. Probably not though. I wasn’t expecting much interest in my rag rugs so I’m delighted that at least three people want to see them! Happy New Year to you too! Looking forward to seeing your projects! I just got a jacket pattern that I'm thinking of sewing up in a wool with a flannel-backed satin for the lining. It would be my first time sewing both a more coat-like jacket and with wool. Any advice on sewing with wool for beginners?
@Samanthalovestosew11 ай бұрын
I love the fabrics you’ve chosen for your jacket. I don’t know if you have an overlocker /serger (I only bought one recently). If you do I advise finishing the edges of every piece that way before you start joining the pieces. A wool jacket can be so bulky to sew and some wools can really fray. So it’s much easier if you finish all the edges before you start (that’s what I prefer anyway!) Sure you know all the standard stuff about washing to pre shrink etc. My local haberdashery actually sells silk thread as well as cotton and polyester. I do like to use silk thread for wool, particularly if there’s any top stitching. I think the finish is nicer than cotton. But it can be difficult to get hold of silk thread. Thank you very much for watching!
