They do. This is best standardized (!) slicky road simulation you can do thus deliver a good 4wd comparison (!). The faster the power distribution works the better as it increase the static friction (vs. low sliding friction). All permanent 4wd works more or less the same way, the software-"intelligence" makes the difference (beside sensors etc.). Hardware exception: some new cars (e.g. Ford Focus RS, Golf R) are equipped with two power distribution clutches on the rear which distributes torque between both wheels (vs. only front / rear).
