It was a small piece of mulch in mine and the plastic covering clicked apart not pulled but mine is from a Nissan Leaf so there will be differences. Great video. Turned out my spring was broken. I simply stretched what was left of the spring and hooked it back up. Unbelievably, it actually worked. Saved me a trip to the junk yard!

Did you have to remove the seat? I got screwdriver in between the metal part and housing but nowhere to push housing down to, it stays in place. Tesla will send mobile service to fix it for CAD 175 which is not bad and very convenient but I’d still prefer to fix it myself :-(.

I watched this & went down w/ my weapons to fix this on a BMW. I don't even WANT to know what that piece would cost & I was buckling my seatbelt to the Passenger side for a week, riding alone. I couldn't get my red piece to pull out at all. Maybe it is not suppose to on that car. but I was digging away, I had nothing to lose really. I had a serrated edge knife too & at some point it caught something. It was a spring. A small one. But it was hooked to something. It took about 10 mins with a screwdriver, knife & scissors, but slowlyit came uncoiled and out far enough for me to pull it out, it wasn't easy & I had to use a towel on my hand. I thought, Ok, I just tore this whole thing up. But I kept going b/c now it wasn't gonna work for sure, there's a spring in the way. Pulled it out, works like a charm now. I am assuming the spring was the one that belongs in there?? I have Nooooo idea...

2004 Toyota Sienna here…confirming this technique worked for me. I detached the latch via the bolt and left the “airbag” wire connected. Bravo! Thank you!

I GREATLY APPRECIATE this video! I curse the design engineer who positioned the seatbelt buckle so far down in the area next to the console...I have to fight the thing down into the area and feel around a while, finally getting it in and feeling a sigh of relief when it finzlly clicks! Then reaching deep to get out of it. I had an idea...the back seat has a seatbelt for three people. I dont carry anyone back thrre anyway, but I figured I'd leavd the two on the outside alone and rob the center buckle and plug and make an extension. The plan was, to plug it into the female buckke and then have another female buckle up, slightly above the console that would be easy to get to. I plugged it in to make sure if how high to put thd other buckle and sewed it on my clothes sewing machine. Then, got a tent and aening company to sew the overlapped strapswith gheir heavy thread. They did a beautiful job and didn't even charge me anything and wouldn't even allow me to tip them!. I was tickled. I plugged it in and it sat right there, pretty as you please!...till I went to plug the male shoulder strap into it Nd, low and behold, the tang is 3/16" shorter on the front male plug than the one in thd back seat! I'm going to see if I can eliminate some plastic, to get more depth! WHO WOULD HAVE EVEN THOUGHT there would be two different lengths, in ste same dern car!!!
