Maybe it's time to realize that restaurant delivery services aren't sustainable. Maybe people need to get up and go get their own food. We stopped when the fees were regularly $8 to $10 dollars not counting tip. I can't even imagine the fees now. I get it, the drivers deserve a living wage but maybe the average person won't be willing to pay $15 plus tip just for the delivery alone. I know we definitely will not and have not. We won't use online ordering apps either when we pick up because of the added fees. Convenience has its limits for us in this crazy inflation.

"No one has been able to provide a good answer what sets that work apart from a freelance artist or person who owns a one-man handyman business, for example." Because in the terminology of freelancing these delivery drivers have a maximum potential client base of 2 or 3 and effectively get all of their contracts from those clients, who also set the terms and operate a business entirely based on this contracting relationship. There are no services with home care after you have major surgeries. I had my surgeries at UW and was sent home despite not being able to sit up from bed on my own or stand on my own if I was sitting down. That was in the past 3 years. Multiple surgeries so I know the drill by now. If I had to pay Doordash fees on top of not being able to work for years due to cancer surgeries, I would have ended up homeless. You get a one-time $400 check if you have cancer and are unable to work in the US. Nothing else. I understand drivers should make more money, but at the same time... we have no home care services for people who can't take care of themselves. We also don't have any places that people can go post surgery to be taken care of. If you get sick in Seattle, you need to rely on knowing people who will volunteer to take care of you. @jae522479 ай бұрын
Government or not, delivery is not for everyone, either. It is inherently more expensive because restaurants usually hike prices for delivery as these apps already charge them around 30%. If they don’t, they lose a lot of money or barely make any. So, even without including all the fees, you already pay more than what you would pay if you picked up the same order. Picking up orders is always better for both parties (customer and restaurant) if you can do so. It is either for convenience (too lazy to get out) or necessity (can’t drive or can’t leave where you are). And, you involve third parties (app and delivery driver). It gets even more expensive. Yeah. It is even more expensive because of the new fee. But, it is not just an issue because of the government.

Unskilled labor is just that, unskilled! If anyone can literally start a job instantly, then it doesn't deserve higher pay. Skilled jobs that people have to be highly trained for deserve that higher pay. Door dash is on the lowest tier of unskilled labor, all you need is a vehicle. What grocery store worker you referring too? Shelf stocker? Cashier? Both are in the middle zone of unskilled. The real problem is people who never improve their lives after high school. I'm not saying college, there are plenty of other ways to improve ones life. But so many just go limp and let life slide by while they work at the local grocery store for 30 years. That's all fine, but don't try and have a family with 4 kids based on that life. Nobody is entitled to a family with 4 to 6 kids. Because the additional cost here prices out all but the most well-heeled. Tips? Yeah, no. If you are one of those entitled 'I deserve a tip just because' types, find some extra large quantities of 'copium'. That horse just got decapitated and a stake driven through its heart.
