I'm in no real position to give business advice, but unless you're getting someone to go over each of your doordash orders full time, at that point it might be a better investment to hire 2 fulltime drivers. These companies will get away with as much as they can, as they know fighting them is time consuming and expensive, it's part of their business model once you reach a level of power like that. Additionally as you making that transition from delivery apps to drivers, to try to compensate for the loss in customers you can up your social media presence and have a flyer come with every food app delivery advertising to order from the store directly. As someone who worked at a family restaurant that NO LONGER USES doordash, it was awful. We ended up closing door dash orders super early because they kept showing up after we closed our kitchen despite that. I, as the person who managed the 35-item order and stacked it perfectly into four large bags and directly handed it to the driver, got 0 tips from all of my effort and they charged the restaurant a huge commission. And don’t even start me on the drivers who’d take the wrong person’s order if I didn’t directly hand it to them or take only one of the bags and then I’d be the one with the angry phone call. The doordash bell sound still haunts me to this day and I will never work for a restaurant that uses doordash again. It sucked.

As a business owner Postmates is the worst. Postmates has added our business to their app and will not delete it since their whole thing is delivery for anything and everything. Well that's cool and all but our business information and menu is incorrect and if we want to have control over the information we have to partner with them and that includes us paying money we don't want to pay. We would rather just not be on their app and avoid all the problems since we have started getting calls complaining to us about orders that they placed on postmates that we don't even have on our system. Overall dealing with them has been a headache for the last couple of years.

I work at a bagel shop that does delivery with DoorDash. There are many reasons why I hate having to make food for DD. First: people seem to order the most ridiculous things which makes them time-consuming to make, which is infuriating most of the time because now that’s one less person making food for the people in line. Second: DD doesn’t know when we’re out of certain items, making it frustrating when someone orders something that we’re out of. Third: the drivers get really impatient when the food isn’t done by the time they arrive to pick it up. Like sorry man, there’s a big ass line of people wanting to order, we simply just didn’t have the time/personnel to put your order together. It also doesn’t help that the drivers usually arrive mere minutes after we receive the info for the order.

@motunuiwoods86152 жыл бұрын
as someone who's now been on both sides, I can now see why the driver is upset when it's not done on time. Most of us are paid per order, so if we're expecting a $5 dollar order to take 10-15 mins total, but then arrive and its not even started, that might be stretched out to 20-30 mins, and now instead of $20, you're making about $5 in an hour. Obviously that's no excuse to use any slurs(definitely crossing the line), but if a driver seems annoyed, that's why. there definitely should be some understanding on both sides, but you could be really screwing someone over if you're prioritizing orders made after the one the driver is coming to pick up. I've started to just leave and assign it to someone else though now if the order is 5+ mins late.;

Hi, Drew! I actually work for DoorDash as my primary income! Another annoying thing about DoorDash is you are HEAVILY incentivized to accept what you’re given. Every order you decline hurts your “acceptance score” and therefore hurts your chances of getting an order in the first place. That makes it very hard to say no to a $3 order with no tip that’ll take 40 minutes to complete.
@kristenweeks34274 жыл бұрын
hey jb! I'm a dasher also and just wanna let you know that your acceptance rate DOES NOT MATTER, no matter how much DD tries to make you believe that it does (unless you are a top dasher, which is only offered in a few cities, then you need 70%). So decline away my friend!

@@TheRabidDeer When DoorDash offers you an order, the total amount they offer is base pay + tip. They don't tell you which is which until after the order, but you can usually get a rough estimate of which is which by learning how the system works. Occasionally they don't tell you what the full amount is, and will incentivize you to take it with the promise of more money. Sometimes it's really good ($15 extra), sometimes not so much ($.50 extra). If the tip goes over a certain amount (I wanna say $5.50 or something similar, but I don't remember), that's when they'll do the tease thing.

Last year I ordered a papa john’s pizza on postmates while on my college campus. The person who picked up my order was on a bicycle, and when I checked the app to see how close she was I noticed to icon was stuck at an intersection. Some time later I got a text from her saying she got into an accident and broke her arm and that her brother was going to finish the order. I tried telling her to not worry about the pizza because HOLY SHIT get to the hospital!!!! Regardless she gave the pizza to her brother who would finish the trip by car. I walked around campus trying to figure out where he was, and the app wasn’t updating a location, it was still on that intersection. I’m pretty sure she didn’t hand over her phone to him, just the pizza. I saw a lot of cars driving around and I had no idea which one was him. I got a message saying the order was cancelled so I gave up. When I requested a refund the reason I gave was “driver broke her arm” and it got back to me pretty quickly. I really wish I had a way to reach out to her and give her a really big tip or something because god damn. She did not have to try and finish that order. It was just a fucking pizza. Oh, 21% yeah, they say for you to sigh up. Then they tell you that it was just a base fee to literally just sign up. If you want to be seen (as in if someone search a general food category, your restaurant will be listed) it goes up to 30 to 40%. Also, as mentioned in the video, people do not call the delivery service for anything! Our food is usually ready in 10 minutes, packed securely in a bag. But we get blamed for late food, cold food, messy food, wrong food and so on. They always demand refund which we can't give cuz we don't even have their info! But at the same time, we understand their frustration cuz you can't never ever get to the customer service. The kicker was that Postmates didn't even have our actual menu...they let customers "suggest" and order items they thought we might have, forcing us servers to get into actual arguments with stressed-out, pissed-off drivers who would show up looking for items we never, ever had on our menu. We called Postmates more than once demanding they remove us from their restaurant list, and they always claimed they couldn't (wtf??). That's what I was thinking when Drew mentioned that. Fun tax law fact! If you own a business and you lose money one year, not only do you not have to pay income taxes for that year, but the amount you lost is also subtracted from next year's taxes. So if you "lose" a million dollars one year, a million dollars is subtracted from next year's income tax report. It's literally how Donald Trump (and other major companies) don't pay taxes. They just use a bunch of tax loopholes that are only lucrative to the top 1% and would otherwise doom normal people to a life of poverty and debt. And it's the reason the middle class pays the most taxes out of any other income group.

As someone who works in a small bakery with Uber Eats and Door Dash, it’s a pain in the ass how hard it is to keep up with some orders, the menus, and of course Grub Hub and PostMates constantly calling us and asking to order stuff that we no longer carry because they don’t keep menus updated and they keep sending drivers to our door asking for stuff we don’t have and then the poor driver is the one who has to contact the customer because we don’t actually know who ordered it.

I work at chipotle which for some reason is doordash's poster child so we get a ton of door dash orders. our online system has no cap for the number of online orders and ive seen us get as many as 115 items to make in 15 minutes. and then the delivery drivers come 10 minutes before their order is due and waste our time making us estimate how long it'll be until its done when we could've been using that time making orders. its insane how entitled they can be. and then customers calling us to say their order wasn't delivered and we have to spend another 5 minutes explaining to them how door dash is a third party company and we have no control over it and they cannot grasp the concept of us being separate companies. one time when I was only 17 a lady screamed at me over the phone saying how I need to control "my" delivery drivers and that we're the ones that are paying their bills so we need to keep a closer eye on them. its really a nightmare

yeah i work at a restaurant and legit those tablets consistently beep. we are a pizza place and we have our own drivers but we use this to cater to customers outside our delivery zone. uber eats usually doesn’t deliver to neighboring towns so our drivers will be on the road for 45 minutes taking one delivery where they don’t get tipped. not to mention we manage these orders on top of our regular orders and the items the have on their menu usually aren’t like real things. they will put a special sauce on the pizza that’s not a thing or have different names for things we have and then customers get angry. not to mention to amount of times these tablets crash and refuse to print orders. then the drivers come shove their phones in my face while i’m helping customers and start yelling doordash so i have to go find their order and tell them it’s not ready. honestly ik this video was a joke but it was so true 😂😂

FYI, lots of places now offer ordering on their own site, but then still outsource the delivery to doordash. Like Wendy's. So when 2 times in a row Wendy's didn't deliver half my order, I found out from the driver that they can't even see the items in the order when you place it through Wendy's. So they can't confirm the items. I then tried to get a refund through Wendy's and....well they just ignored me on all customer service platforms and it was impossible to get a response. So maybe I should have just went to doordash. Except doordash didn't have the $5 biggy bag listed or the customization that the Wendy's app had. The more they try to "advance" the worse things become.

The losses definitely exist. You might question what these companies (and the government) define as a loss, but the companies aren't profiting. They are spending more than their revenue, but that spending is on things that helps them grow (hire more employees, acquire other companies, build infrastructure). This law comes from before the age of BIG business, where businesses stopped growing at a certain point and then started profiting (at which point you can tax them). Good CEO's have realized that they can just grow their company forever and never get burdened by taxes. They aren't doing anything illegal, the losses do exist, and it's got nothing to do with "being hard to prove." It's just a question of what counts as a loss.

My restaurant doesn’t even WANT to use DoorDash and we get SO many orders from them. Since we don’t use an app or anything with them, a robot voice calls in to place the order. We started hanging up on the automatic voice but then the driver has to call in the order to us themselves and we feel bad. We’ve started calling them Dine-and-dash for the amount of times the driver says “they paid online” (we don’t have an agreement with them! This isn’t possible!) or the driver doesn’t even pay the full amount for the tab and when they can’t pay they leave?!? And IF the driver shows up it’s ALWAYS over an hour later. Wait i’m so confused and so curious, so is the restaurant a chain that uses the app elsewhere or is it just a stand-alone that is on one of these delivery apps bc if it’s a standalone restaurant, there is no way it should be possible for the app to let people order your food through them. But if it’s a chain that has other locations use the app, you can literally just download the app and say that the restaurant is closed so people don’t order on it.

I was a doordash driver, a “dasher”. I worked in Wisconsin during covid and beforehand. It was awful, the worst thing is that doordash doesn’t pay dashers for their time spent waiting for orders. Sometimes I’d be sitting in a restaurant parking lot in winter for an hour waiting for my second order. I feel Dashers should be paid for that because they have to be ready to drive at any moment, and the app displays that they’re on the clock. you also get penalized for declining orders, even if it’s only $4 for an hour delivery. You get penalized for being late, even if it’s the business who was late or really busy. And There are usually too many dashers per diameter and that’s why the available times are so minuscule.

I know not everyone's in a position to do this, but I've taken the option of refusing to use any of these apps. In Australia the issue we've also had is a lot of delivery people are on bicycles, many of them are immigrants/on temporary working visas, and several of them have been killed. And then the company refuses to pay any compensation because they're technically "independent contractors" and not direct employees. I'd rather not feel like somebody literally risked their life to deliver me food.
@StreakyBaconMan2 жыл бұрын
I was all with you up until the last sentence. There is literally no way to get food delivered where the delivery person isn't putting their life at risk - all forms of travel are somewhat risky. Car accidents do happen, and even people on foot aren't immune from a traffic accident. One of my old jobs was to ride a bicycle around the CBD with a huge billboard towed behind it, and I had to ride on the roads because there are no bike paths in the CBD - I would have been pretty pissed off if advertisers started telling my boss "well we don't want to use you anymore because what if one of your riders is in an accident and dies?" costing me that job despite the fact my boss was more than reasonable - I was an employee not a contractor, I earned slightly above minimum wage at 18yrs old so I was happy with that, and all the equipment I used was paid for and maintained by my employer rather than myself. That was a pretty good deal for me back then and I am glad I had that job. The main problem I see with food delivery apps and rideshare apps is they do not offer their "contractors" that seem an awful lot like employees adequate compensation for the risks they are expected to take when performing their job. If Uber were to classify their drivers as employees, pay for the cars and maintenance and pay the employees more than minimum wage then I'd be fine with it.
