Thank you so much for this video! My father gave me the book the "Godforsaken Sea" by Derek Lundy in 2005 literally a few days before he passed away. That book introduced me to the Vendee Globe. The race has come along way since the 1996-97 edition that unfolds on these pages. I donated to Pip's campaign to have my father's name painted inside her boat and I wanted to sail around the world with Pip as well. At about 37:15 our names appear next to Joff's right ear! Now I know where we are on Medallia!! Go Pip!! Go Team Medallia!!

Great interview! From what I could see, _Medallia_ is basically a different boat for this VG. So many improvements have been made it would take an entire book to describe them all in detail. I saw some of the videos Pip uploaded when the team was doing the bow reshaping. That alone was a major undertaking and much needed with the new bigger foils. I hope Pip has much better luck this time around. She is such a warrior and inspiration to us all.

Hearing that many boats have had their bows cut off and rebuilt makes me wonder how close to the original strength of the connection between bow and the rest you can actually get. It makes me slightly anxious thinking back to PRB breaking in half last time after „only“ changing and fitting the new foils if I remember correctly.

Love this episode about the technical aspects of the boats. I would like so much to see the details of how the halyards, halyard locks, reefing lines, cunning hams/ down haul and running backs all lead from the mast through the deck and are led back to the piano. Thanks.

Let me know what is your top 3 for the win? (In next video I will let you know my Top 3 also)
@VIBorgiaАй бұрын
On paper I see Dalin - Richomme - Ruyant in that order, but obviously everything can happen. Normally Dalin should be quite fast on the way down and suffer a bit in the south, if he gets to St Helena first and get a system that the other cannot catch he can win, but if the same as the last edition happen, the rest of the fleet can stay with him and should be a bit more "comfortable" in the south.
@SeawolvesTVАй бұрын
@@VIBorgia with lite wind start it will be a real Bonanza :)
@michaelseydel3373Ай бұрын
My top three for the win. #1 Boris Herrmann (he would have won four years ago if it wasn't for that fishing boat). # 2 Pip Hare (She is fantastic!). #3 Jean Le Cam (hope his boat holds together this time).
@VIBorgiaАй бұрын
@@SeawolvesTV Yes, they are all talking about not going crazy as they did during the last transats, but knowing all the crazy skippers out there, I do not see that coming. They will go 110% from the get go.
@samuelstone5757Ай бұрын
1#Dalin (consistently fast and pushing hard) 2# Sam Davis (strong route planning, strong all-rounder, and underestimated) 3# Ruyant (takes risks and sails fast). If I'm honest Pip Hare breaking into the top 10 is more important to me than who wins. GO GET THEM PIP!

Why don't they use anti vorticy generator's on those foils instead of maintaining a razor edge ? Seems more practical and the drag implied a fair compromise....

Some teams have actually tried that. There are still some teams which have something like anti vorticy generator's on their foils.
