There's some context missing. Kobe and his parents stopped speaking for a long time after he and Vanessa married, but they eventually made up. They fell out AGAIN a couple years before Kobe died because his mom asked Kobe to buy them another house and he refused, after which they tried to auction off some of his memorabilia. Personally I think Kobe got married young to get away from his parents. They seem to be very controlling. If your kids are adults you give your advice and then you let them make their own decisions and make their own mistakes. The fact he was still married to her when he died says he made the right decision and they should have tried to reconcile with him. He would call home crying about how he didn’t want to live by himself so his oldest sister had to live with him until he met Vanessa. He was inseparable from his sisters and all of a sudden he’s not close to nobody in his family until he reconciled with his parents before he died. I’m trying to figure out why he had high expectations of the same parents who gave him the affluent lifestyle he was born into but none for his wife who barely got a high school diploma and never worked a day in her life.
