Great Video. You have helped me a lot in my "sharpening journey". I sent my Spyderco UF back to Spyderco with pictures of the swirl marks that the ceramic stone came with. Spyderco warranty support told me that all the UF stones have swirl marks. I know that Spyderco takes product quality and improvement seriously and the problem may be able to be addressed by using a random orbital buffing process. The swirl marks in the stone are perfectly circular. If all stones are with the swirls .... Lapping is next. Thanks again.

I must say, the 306UF is the best money I've laid down on sharpening so far. We're gettin there because of you, so thanks again. Would like to have you opinions on fixed blade convex edge sharpening.

Beautiful bevels. I'm still trying to get there when I'm pushing the knife away. For some reason, when I get to the belly and tip, I do something with my wrist/hand that causes me problems on keeping it consistent. No issues on the pull stroke toward me. I'll get there one day. Maybe.
@roughroosterknifesharpenin55314 жыл бұрын
Because you are keeping the same level through the belly and tip. Work on lifting you're wrist and that'll fix it.

I went after mine with a diamond flattener, got pretty close to flat but for one end that drops off a couple hundreds in the last 1/2 inch. Not worth the wear on stones or flatterers to go after it. Silicon carbide like wise did not look like it was going to get it flat in my lifetime.

Thank you for this, and all of your videos. I have seen a VERY popular youtube presenter who sharpens Japanese knives, who recommends holding the blade at a 20° angle to the stone (that's what I understood him to say). This results in a 40° angle at the cutting edge. I just say your presentation on the Opinel knife (lopsided sharpening), and I thought I'd mention the angle. Your viewers might be interested another video on edge geometry (If you don't already have one). Thanks again

nice edge, i got two ceramic rods i haven't used in a while but i love them they put one heck of an edge on my knives, in fact i cut myself once right after i honed on one and that was one of the most painful cuts i ever got. and it wasn't even deep. just watching your video while i flatten my Arkansas stones, just doing the coarse work right now. gotta flatten all my naniwa hones too... got a few days of work ahead of me. been tuning up the forge too, still needs some work it aint burning efficiently but i managed to hammer out a couple pair of tongs. hopefully i can get it dialed in soon and i can make a few small knives, id still like to send you one for the channel

welp i got it. the fit and finish is perfect but the grind was off and it wouldn’t even shave. i don’t care that much but its my first spyderco and everyone raves about their factory edge. mine sucks lol. so i went with a dmt coarse at 17 degrees. that angle pretty much just evened out the factory edge. it is fairly toothy so i stropped it with green. prob wont whittle but it does pop hair when i test on my arm. really good working edge. i use a numbered wedge kit to keep my freehand angle. works like a charm. anyway peace brother ✌️
