The following was put together by Jens Randolff, so props to him for doing it. Here is a little bit about his background, in case you don't know already. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician born in Wales on March 29 1990. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmuni

hey, i know the ordeal with reaction channels is to chug as many songtitles to them hoping 1 of em gets the next video, but a reaction channel is not a jukebox. and in that sense, never expect a reactor to play your list, ... try to imagine yourself in Seb's shoes, he of course needs guidance on what might be good next titles, yet he is also looking for reasons to watch these songs. So i suggest next time, you motivate your list with reasons why seb should watch any of these or each separately . I for one, propose Seb to listen to the Ren Trilogy, the Tales of Jenny and Screetch, as it also shows deep meaningful story telling and plays on the last thing seb said, "not to many people our age make art anymore' well, the careful construction of the 3 stories in the trilogy will - if hi Ren didn't already - prove that Ren is a master story teller and a man very skilled with words. That on top of very skilled guitarplay. Sure the other songs are great as well, and you can speak for each of them, giving context. In the end it's context like that that will help Seb make the best choice for him and his channel.
@Hundhammer Жыл бұрын
@@saelfaer appreciate your effort - I sometimes give very long comments, almost essays, sometimes containing proposals or requests and background, and also links, sometimes not but only general thoughts on artists or music or art in general... I'd give some more context for example if I wanted Sebs to react to Isyana Sarasvati - Lexicoustic ep. 1 'Lexicon', because he never heard her before and I'd try to rise his curiosity... - but with Ren, and especially if one's heard at least one title already it's a waste of time explaining to whomever why they might listen to him, either they got it that this guy is a genius and one should check out as much Ren as possible for one's own sake, or they don't get it, then it's a waste of time as well because I'm not interested in watching a reactor who doesn't get it and is not excited... Elizabeth's (The Charismatic Voice) reaction, also premiered today, exemplifies what I expect ideally... So honestly I don't really care if Sebs does another reaction to Ren, and if so to which song... My list is only intended to reward him by liking, watching the entire video and commenting for his algorhythm. And as Sebs is not stupid, he'll continue to discover Ren, and usually a reaction channel will do a follow up to the song which gets mentioned most often in the comments... so my list may be helpful in picking one and at the same time shows that Ren is not a one hit wonder... I'm sure many guys will suggest e.g. the trilogy as you did, or other songs, and give more context than I did, Sebs would only have to read the same thing over and over... There's no need for you to run around and teach other people on how they should write their comments... There are channels which know me so well and appreciate my taste so much that it's enough for me to drop a name and title and say "don't miss this for your own sake" and they will do it... you don't even know how Sebs and me stand together, if he remembers and recognizes me at all, whether I'm a regular to his channel and long time sub, or just an occasional Ren hopper... You write your comments the way you think they should be, and I do it my way, alright? Peace and love from Bavaria 🙂

“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on KZbin are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. "The Big Push" busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work.

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

We are human beings, who sometimes have to deal with our inner demons, fight them and win. Let the light prevail.

The fact that you _got_ the line "I will rise from the east and I'll settle on the ocean floor" as a reference to Mr. 666 from Revelations made my day. Literally _no one_ remarks about that line, and it's my favourite.

Watching your reaction to this artist again. Please do another one of his songs. For Joe, Jenny’s Tale/Screech’s Tale/ Violets Tale are awesome! I can’t get enough of Ren and I love your reactions!

Ren was also in a band called The Big Push, there you will see more of the talent that is Ren. I shot the sheriff/ road to Zion video and Wade in the water / Nina Simone video. The other band members are also on fire too.

Hi'yall , Sebs, New to your reaction channel. Hi Ren , Was MASTERFUL I would consider it ART ! I have never seen anyone speak about mental illness, or portray a vision of mental illness / split personality that leaves you with a complete understanding of what is going on inside the mind. One has to wonder ? How frustrating it must be for the people who have these illnesses to explain this experience, Not only to Doctor's But the Judicial System .They are mocked in court or called crazy . Or they are not believed it all. I can't credit this man enough. I hope everybody sees "HI Ren" Doctor's, Judge's, Prosecutors & Defense Attorneys, Friends, Family, more importantly ,Our EDUCATORS. ( It's the vessel that could change the WORLD 🌎 The way we see it & how we act on It ) This should be produced in every Language. Lisa

Instant sub! really thoughtful and sincere reaction! Hope you take a deeper dive into Ren's music - his rap, singing, busking and collaborations with other musicians (such as Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, Eden Nash- are all incredible. Most agree though his masterpiece is the Trilogy Tales of Jenny/Screech and Violet - has to be done in order, so look out for the full version that Ren put together in correct order - it will blow your mind and these are the stories we need to hear and process. Thanks again!

Oh Sebs, Ren has so much to say. Sick Boi, Chalk Outlines (live), Dear God, Crutch, How to Be Me (live), The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full), Money Game 1 and 2, Love Song 1, 2, & 3...all are great!! His band The Big Push is amazing. The busking with Sam Tompkins. His retakes. Just dive down the rabbit hole. It's almost as deep as the Tool rabbit hole!!! Much more diverse, for sure!

Ren uses his guitar skills as a second narrator which, if you react to it, you’ll pick up on this with the brilliant Violets Tale Trilogy. A true master at telling a story

You should hear him really rap in The Hunger! His rhyme schemes and flow changes are insane and definitely top tier. The Hunger is the Frankenstein (monster) that Ren made to conquer the music world. It will blow your mind. I'm Losing It is his second best rap.

Great reaction. You should take a dive into his work. He is so extremely talented, raw, insightful, intelligent, real, the list goes on and on. His music is really relatable for people going through hard times. He's brought so many different walks of life together with "Hi Ren" and I'm loving watching his success rise!

For more Ren--he does so many different things: More storytelling: The Ballads of Jenny and Screech (and Ballad of Violet) More singing, also about mental health: Chalk Outlines (duet with Chincilla) Totally different musical style, busking: Either Ren & Sam Tompkins - Earned it /Mans World / Falling OR The Big Push - Wade in the water / Nina simone / Trouble so hard Full-force Rap god mode: The Hunger

Is it mental health? Is it religious? Is it Jung and shadow work? So many different ways to interpret it.
@danrudnick5252 Жыл бұрын
@@CateB66 yeah I know his story. And it could be a straight telling of his experience. But it almost seems in the end that he says he tempted the devil and the devil rose to the challenge with saying "I said I would defeat the forces of evil and suffered the consequences." Along with the direct references to Lucifer, Father of Lies, Mephistopheles, etc. But the line "A coin minted different sides" suggests that the light and the dark are both just a part of human nature, and you need to embrace both to be fully whole, which led me to Jung.
