100% true! I felt the same way. And i literally had tears of joy in my eyes! As a guitarist myself, I've listened to Steve Vai for so long and was always afraid that someday all my heroes will be gone! But to see this man....it makes me so happy like there is no word on this planet to describe my feelings. Good music will never die. Thanks Jesus Christ for this!

I feel you. When I saw Vai almost lost it. I was a teen in the 80s and to me Vai was everything. I found Polyphia and got the same feelings I had about Vai. Now together is mind blowing🤯🤯🤯

Chills, man. Literal chills when I first heard this song. I was wondering how Steve Vai would adapt or play over Polyphia's complex riff then I hear his own glitch part before the drop omg... Yes Scott's really shines on this one. His soloing style is kinda traditional shredding so some people would prefer that sound than Tim's riff playing. Nice reaction vid man. React to ABC as well. It's dope!

This song legit gave me goosebumps. I saw a commenter elsewhere notice that throughout the video, the guys progress upwards floor by floor. Then, when they're at the top they meet the King on The Black Throne. Then it ends with the trumpets calling the dusk. The whole song and video are a metaphor describing their ascension of guitar skill to that of the Kings of Rock, and to the listener that music (Life/Death and the theme of the album) has to end at some point. Steve represents their role models and guitar goals, hence the black throne (black representing rock/metal music.) Or, ya know, something like that... It was a neat little feature to show Scottie sitting on said throne for a moment too. Likely an intentional nod to his increasing skill and song writing contributions to the album. I could go on and on about this particular song and video. There is just so much to unpack and appreciate! lol

I have watched more reaction videos than I can count on EGO Death and the reaction to seeing Steve Vai the OG Guitar King on the throne is the same: Emotional and a big smile. The man is loved and revered. That's why the video has at this point got 14M views.

you said what I have been thinking few people mention: Tim and Scott complete and push each other to the edges so well, it's a partnership I want to see forever. It's much talent :D

I love going through Polyphia reaction vids. Feels like letting a buddy in on a secret hypertalent and then watching his jaw drop. Notice, they start on the lower floor and move up, each occupying that throne on the way. Until they're on the roof and Vai is on it. You mentioned that you were a fan of Scott and he certainly holds his own against even the best shredders. Being a non-gutarist musician, I am absolutely blown away by Henson's harmonic work... And he's quite quirky.

I watched it today and was just enamored by everything; the virtuosity of all the talent, the changing grooves, the camera turning and showing the THRONE with Steve Vai, just everything. I noticed too that in every scene change, they seem to be moving up in floors of the building. They're ascending the structure of the "musical world" if you will, and meeting the king, Steve Vai, at the top. This thing is just an ANTHEM and a fanfare to everything I love about guitar playing and this band in general. They continue to out-do themselves and I am HERE for it.

"I didn't know you could make that sound with the guitar too ...". Check Tosin Abasi :) Actually it's a well known fact that Tim got some lessons from him on this technique. You can hear it well in a solo Tim does in a track of Unprocessed call Real. But what i didn't know is that Scott also does it. This was the wow factor. Dude has taken somewhat a step back to let Tim shine a bit more, but people forget how much of talented musician he is. His technique is amazing and i am glad to see him take the front role sometimes. The way that they all are such a tight band but then whoever takes the front will always leave you with your mouth open.

Finaly Scott got more attention! I can't believe they did such a collab. All three of them could easily be put in "The greatest guitarist" list... and we are just hearing them all together. Also, this trumpet guy at the end is from Brasstracks, this band is amazing too. It looked like they are teasing us with it for the next song.

I have been watching Polyphia reactions and just watched your back-to-back G.O.A.T. reaction followed immediately by your Playing God reaction. Such an amazing evolution of their music, isn't it? GOAT is damn good, I mean, it's so catchy and smart and cool. I love it. Playing God takes the skills showcased in GOAT and makes it more melodic and relaxed. This one, ego death, is magnificent! The way the song is 100% recognizable Polyphia sound and style, yet somehow it is flexible enough to show how it can adapt and absorb another completely unique voice, like Steve Vai's amazing bendy language. I swear, the amount of symbolism in it is crazy too. Like, you notice the sun behind Steve, like a sun god bringing light. And the way the band moved physically closer together through the video and how the amount of sun in the video increased as they entered the metal world until they reached the pinnacle and see Steve Vai on his throne. How he brings light to the group and they unify with it and release it into the night air. I also love how they have Tim and Scott sit on the throne for their respective solo's in the video. Great music and video. Either would be worth experiencing but together they're magnificent.

I completely agree about Scotty, and I loved seeing him get the biggest highlight and the longest time literally in the throne in this video. Also, I think the ending trumpet segment is a transition to what the next song on the album will be (likely a trumpet features - at least that's my guess).

man, I must have watched/listened this songs about 200x times, and I have discovered it 1 week ago :D just estupendous. the funny thing: I have never heard of Polyphia before, and clicked on the video clip only because I saw Steve Vai's name in there, watched it and I was so impressed I forgot about Steve Vai until he suddenly appeared, and then bingo! the best part of the song was when he joined. The song evolves getting always better. The last new song I had a similar feeling was Deutschland, by Rammstein, but I guess this one beat it as well.

I feel like this whole album was written with the idea that it get wanted to show off their rhythm section, and Scott. Tim does what he does best. Construct a funky groove around that. But even though he’s the most technically gifted, he never writes songs in a way where the others are overshadowed.

Ah he got me with this last comment ) Well I am not a big Steve Vai fan, Imsorry Imsorry Imsorry )) But I very very admire him, you just cant ) I am more in Joe Satriani, Buckethead, Malmsteen stuff. This song is amazing. The cozyness, morning and evening stuff. Shine of everyone in the band and Vai on top of that. Softness in chords before Vai on the roof and those sick tech from Vai. Shredding solo in trio - omg, and trumpet?! cmoooon Clay's just a killer duo, they are so good omg. Style, Tech, Glory and humblness to play alongside to not pop up but stick with everyone to create this beautiful image of "Still kicking, learn this boys" and "Young youth overload". Crazy!

He is using his thumb like a bass player. Both of them do it in this song. Total Tosan Abasi thing (Animals as Leaders for those who don't know) and I don't remember them doing that on previous albums. Not a complaint, at all! I think it's great that they found another tool to put in their box. And I could be wrong about them not playing that way before. I don't remember it if they did, though.

Definitely different, but equally as good...and have been around just as long. I would suggest... "The Brain Dance" "Micro-Aggressions" "Physical Education" "Another Year" "CAFO"

Nothing wrong with Animals as leaders, fantastic musicians, but not comparable with polyphia imo at all. This lot have a fantastic understanding of melody which makes their music much more consumable by all - hence the fantastic attention they get from across the spectrum. Animals as Leaders don't really do melody, but what they do they do really really well.
@jonathantaylor3074
@jonathantaylor3074 Жыл бұрын
@@titntin5178 consumable is a great word for describing their differences. Two of the songs I suggested (The Brain Dance & Another Year) are easy to "consume" and loaded with melodies. "Ego Death" reminds me of the "bass thumping" that Tosin does. On another note...if Herman Li(Dragon Force) gets both Tosin Abasi and Tim Henson to join him in session, there is an understanding and respect of their skill level. Maybe that's what needs to be clarified? Neither are better, both equally talented, and pushing the boundries of guitar playing to new heights.
