Defense wasn't really the problem with Georgia, and certainly not against Notre Dame. The offense and special teams were the problems. They gave Notre Dame 14 points. The defense was great against Notre Dame, so no, Downs would not have made a difference. As for Beck, Smart wasn't going to pay Carson Beck 4 million dollars to keep him, especially since Beck had already earned 2-3 million dollars already, and Georgia wasn't planning on Beck coming back anyway. It's also not surprising that a guy coming off a not great year and a surgery to his throwing elbow would want to come back. He was a early day 3 draft grade.

Georgia fans and espn people just didn’t understand that defense Georgia had for those 2 titles is one the best of all time. They had a run similar to Clemson but because they were in the SEC they took it as more than what it really was. There will never be another conference that does what the SEC did because the playing field is leveled recruiting wise. No more hoarding talent and sentencing them to the bench for 3 years they’ll get an opportunity elsewhere now and get paid to do it

Genuinely curious what you think constitutes an 'elite program'. They've been 251-70 since Richt got there in 2001. Thats 25 years of winning 80% of your games with only two HCs, with the one stumble being the 6-7 year in 2010. Since 2000 they have the 3rd most players drafted by the NFL (149) behind only OSU (163) and Bama (154). It is the definition of an Elite program. Not an SEC or Georgia fan, (I'll be cheering on my Bucks in the Championship), but y'all can't seem to see the forest for the trees.

People were forgetting to that don't know enough about Georgia football since Kirby Smart has been the head coach is it from season to season he has never committed 100% to naming one person the absolute starter going forward, I mean in 2021 when Georgia won the National Championship with Stetson Bennett and he was trying to decide whether he was going to come back for an additional season Kirby even told Stetson Bennett that if he came back he was going to have to compete and earn the starting job there are no starting positions at the University of Georgia that's just given to anyone you have to compete every single season, I guarantee your Kirby Smart told Carson back you're more than welcome to come back but we're not going to give you 4 million dollars and you're going to have to compete for your job and win it in the spring

@williegreen133 күн бұрын
I imagine Beck asked UGA what they would offer and Kirby said he would have the opportunity to compete for the starting job vs. Miami offering 4 million. The truth is, staying at UGA would have messed up the pipeline of kids coming in and probably cause a transfer. Can't blame Beck for taking the $$, it makes good business sense. College players now see college football as employment in pecuniary and nonpecuniary ways. Good for them! It's NIL money plus the portal, and it's not just Beck. Players want to go for the money, and where they can play to get to the NFL. Hence, SEC rosters are greatly diminished. The SEC placed a premium on cable revenue, and their own SEC network, etc. Guess what? A lot of players did not find life on the plantation so good. For example, Bill Norton was a DT buried on the UGA depth chart. He did well for Arizona in 2023. Then Norton made a contribution for Texas in last Friday's playoff game.

This time last year Carson Beck went into Kirby Smart's office and told him that it would take 4 million for him to return to Georgia for this upcoming season or he was going to enter the NFL draft, Georgia gave him 4 million thinking that he was good enough to elevate mediocre receivers and make them better, we clearly know that he's not and I've heard rumors all around Athens that from inside the locker room Carson Beck was not near the leader or had the teams respect as much as Gunner Stockton, that's why if you watch the SEC Championship Game the entire team went crazy and was uplifted when Gunner was going to come into the game, and I guarantee you Kirby Smart and form Carson Beck that he was not going to get another 4 million dollars for coming back in 2025, that's why UGA feels completely fine with Gunner Stockton as their quarterback and they've spent nil money going out and getting the two best receivers and the transfer portal and Zachariah Branch from USC and Noah Thomas from Texas A&M not to mention they have four receivers coming in this upcoming draft and two of them are five-star recruits in Taylor and Wiley, Georgia will be just fine so let Carson Beck go down there to Miami drive his Lamborghini around South Florida and worry about throwing some interceptions down there

First time he throws a pick he will give up on his team. Beckis a second rate QB. Miami can have him

Beck is not that good. I don't know what people have watching but it's pretty clear that it has been the GA team that has produced with a mediocre QB.
